Tomb Raider

Post by Pete1210 »

Overshadowed by the MLB games, the Tomb Raider reboot is also releasing 3/5 and its getting great reviews.

http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-360 ... ic-reviews.

Being compared favorably to the Uncharted series was enough to get me interested. I pre-ordered today to pick up some bonus content.

Pre-ordered it for the PC as I can't see the MP angle taking off here and I'm frankly trying to make most of my purchases for the PC going forward since the new console game prices scare me.

Conan's review was the best. :P

Very much looking forward to this one...MP notwithstanding...(never understood the decision to make a MP component to this one...)

I am all over this one. I have been a big fan of the series since the first game and have been very pleased with the games this generation.

Vader, that Conan clip was hysterical, thanks for posting.

I also am highly likely to buy this. I got a PSX all those years ago specifically because of the first Tomb Raider game, and I really enjoyed Legend on the 360.

Looking forward to renting. I watched the Gametrailers review, and man does this game look violent! Moreso than any Tomb Raider that I remember. Looks very much like an Uncharted game without the deep story line.

Not sure if anyone watched or not but got a few people telling me my voice volume was low so sorry if you did watch about that.

I only got about 30 minutes in but I liked what I played.

Danimal,

I didn't watch the feed like but checked out parts of it recorded. Looks good, I was going to get it for the 360 but when I pre-ordered Sim City I got a $20 gift code for (shudder) Origin so I may instead get TR for the PC. What resolution are you running it at?

Me, too. Been wanting this bad, but I can't see spending $60 on it now when I know it might be weeks, or even months, before I actually get time to play it. By then I'm sure there will be some good deals on it.

Played about an hour last night. Great game so far. It feels like Uncharted with a little Far Cry 3 mixed in. Far Cry 3 even early on had too many choices and distracted me from the story. Tomb Raider seems like it strikes a better balance for an action game. Story and voice acting is well done.

I tried some multiplayer and it was not that bad. Again reminded me of Uncharted MP. The two maps I saw were nice, multi-level and good sized for 4 v 4 action. The mode where one team is retrieiving medical supplies was a little different and rewarded team work. You can set traps. I got stuck upside down in a few rope traps at which point you or a team mate can shoot down the rope (if your not killed first).

I really did not enjoy myself with this until after an hour or so. Looked great, but 'island hallways' interspersed with frequent QTE events was not what I was looking for in this sort of game.

Thankfully, I've now hit an area where things are opening up, and I'm starting to have fun.

I've never been a Tomb Raider fan but I am loving this game. The QTE and cut scenes continue but at least they flow really seamlessly and load times (PC) are so fast I am back at it after I fail in about 15 seconds.

Much like Web just said you have to play at least an hour to get it to open up and it continues to do so. I wouldn't compare it to Far Cry because its more of an open world like Batman. Meaning you are sectioned off and while you can travel back to sections really (up until now) each section has its own plot point.

My favorite part right now is just finding hidden tombs and going through them. Really good game though, really good.

Yep, the first hidden tomb area is where I found things to get better and more open. Looking forward to doing more.

I picked it up yesterday but haven't had a chance to play yet. From what you guys are saying I am confident it is in my wheelhouse.

Finished the main story last night. Wow. That was great stuff. Engaging, engrossing; I got totally lost in the story, and loved every minute of it. Sure, I saw it coming rather early on, but it hardly mattered. HOW it played out was still fantastic. Crystal D really outdid themselves here. I watched the credits roll, and immediately continued, spending another couple of hours exploring...and loving the exploration. It's as if they re-introduced us to Lara Croft, showed her beginnings, then released her back onto the island as the heroine we all remember.

Just a fantastic game, and one of the early greats of 2013. Not to be missed. I hope for a DLC pack that is nothing but new tombs to find, explore, and conquer. I can't get enough.
