FIFA 13

Post by 10spro »

I played mostly UT in 12 and still enjoy the tournaments. While I also immersed myself in career mode quite a bit, the addition of Internationals is going to keep me glued for awhile. I like the new additions including a new skills mode. I will have to learn to swear in a different language next time I play the Kinect. 8)

Complete Dribbling sounds like EA jargon for "extra cheese." But 1st Touch Control sounds very promising if implemented properly.

I just hope they fix the collision mechanics and better balance the defensive play.

Once again I was very pleased with the head to head of FIFA 12. Offline was once again a boring affair!

The online experience has steadily degraded every year. They decided that ANY defender can outrun and take the ball away from Messi or any other superstar. The through pass on Fifa12 was nothing like the previous years. Sold it after a couple of weeks.

Fifa 13 should be the last one before the next generation, which means they're mailing it in, trying to keep people interested. Or it will have features that are missing in Fifa 14 for the next-gen.

I liked some of the touch ideas they had on the Vita version of FIFA, though it's kind of hard to swipe with the touchpad in the back and your other fingers on the bumpers or buttons. Some games on iPad let you use swipes to pass ahead or shoot, letting you bend the ball. This is better than trying to execute some combos with the bumpers and the right stick.

Unfortunately, Vita isn't too popular and it sounds like the Wii U will get eclipsed as well. So for PS4 and Xbox 720, they'll probably have some waggle or motion gestures as gimmicks rather than giving you a chance to execute some passes and shots with precision.

No doubt. EA did a fantastic job with that game. So good, in fact, that I pre-ordered FIFA 13 on the Vita without hesitation. Even if it is basically a roster update with some gameplay tweaks I will enjoy it a lot. I'm going with PES on the console this time around, so I should get the best of both worlds. Now if EA will only bring TW and NHL to the Vita... Both of those titles would translate really well to the Vita.

Check this interview. Improved AI where players will actually make smart runs around the D. I enjoyed the H2H matches a lot in 12 along FUT's many tourneys, this is the year where I will have two footie games again in my desk. My only doubt is whether PES will be a PC or PS3 version.

Me happy.

The items in bold are ones that I've been screaming about for a couple years now. The matchmaking filters are so very overdue. Really glad to see these. Should make a significant difference in the online clubs experience!

Good improvements overall, I would add also the addition of bigger trade piles in UT, a mode I played a lot.

Are you saying i dont have to boost? Zepp you here that? oh yes.

What about the ai team mates improving as your club improves does that mean if we are not competing every night we are going to get trounsed by some super human ai squad just because they play more and are better just from sheer number of games and experience?
Hopefully it wont be that bad.

Not that you don't have to boost...just that your boosting is done by playing online only. I'm not putting up with you goofballs having 72 rated toons after the game's been out for 8 months. :)

It won't matter. Those kiddies will just play drop in games and those drop in games will be even worse with more selfish play and more quitting out between the lobby and the game when the kiddies realize they can't all be the central striker, and you're stuck playing with two defenders and a forward. :D

But I agree wholeheartedly with Rob on his bolds, and I would have also bolded the "Maxed out pros more realistic to real life players" item. That is potentially huge for general competitiveness from game to game and also perhaps greater variety in tactics. Maybe. I'm also looking forward to 2v2 co-op in the online seasons mode. Could be awesome assuming it would be a two-any type of setup.

One thing I am realizing from the PES demo and also having played the crap out of the ultimate team mode in FIFA and of course my favorite the online team play, is that FIFA is criminally lacking in variety of what is effective on offense. There is so much hay to be made in PES simply with changing pace or with just standing on the ball and waiting for the teammates to make the run or for the defender to dive in. It just feels so much like soccer. In FIFA it always seems to devolve into break neck speed races and attackers overpowering the defenders.

That's not to say FIFA hasn't gotten better and better over the years, but in the absence of a FIFA demo so far, I am being reminded, bewteen really enjoying the PES demo and reading this stuff anout FIFA, why I have always wished we could combine the outside features, the kits and stadiums and leagues and so on, plus the amazing EA online suite and new kinnect features with the core quality and personality of the PES gameplay. The song remains the same even after all these years.

You mean im going to have to actually contribute so my player gets better? Bloody hell ive got no chance 1 tackle a game and 3 passes for a throw in it is gonna take 8 months Rob and you will be happy im a 72.

The other way was better us doleites can boost all day long while the working class are well working

Still can't figure out why they've not yet given us something like an online dynasty mode. Oh how I wish a group of us could play through an EPL season together.

Visually the game looks amazing. I can well distinguish the better players as you can tell in their skills and first touch is a nice addition to the game. The AI is improved but I think PES still has an advantage in this area. I noticed more fouls being called too which is nice, overall not a huge leap over 12 but will keep me busy as usual with FUT. The game played a bit too fast for me on default but you can adjust that including sliders.

BTW, the demo is also out for you PC'ers.

Initial 360 demo impressions. I'll start with the positives, because they're aren't many.

1. Game is gorgeous.
2. Nice variety of modes.
3. Pre-game presentation is fantastic.

Now the negatives:

1. Weird ball physics. Ball bounces too much. Pass speeds are almost all the same.
2. Animations aren't nearly as varied or organic as PES 2013. Everything feels too fast, too herky-jerky, even on normal game speed.
3. No fouls. Few offsides.
4. No variety in team strategies. I played as Man City against Juventus in a game, figuring that would be an interesting contrast of styles. Nope. Both teams raced up and down the pitch, with hardly any midfield play. This should not be a drag race on grass. There is absolutely no buildup through the midfield, of which PES 2013 has plenty.

No question which footy game I'm buying this year, primarily as a single-player soccer gamer: PES 2013. If the demos are any indication, PES 2013 resembles the game I see on TV much more than FIFA 13. It's not even close.

Hi! Remember me? It's been three years.

Anyway.

Definitely a mixed bag, as pk said. I'm disappointed so far with the style of play the game encourages. After playing with the PES demo for the last week or so, FIFA feels like a big step back when it comes to gameplay that captures the feel of the sport.

However, I am curious as to whether this could be a substantially better experience with slider and game speed adjustments. Plus, it's possible the five minute halves affect the pace. Not sure.

Thanks, man! I saw you post in the FIFA thread at OS. It reminded me to come back here.

I'm getting into the beautiful game more and I'll be more active over here where it's appreciated. :)
