Too many good games, not enough time to enjoy them
Anyone else suffering from too many games and not enough hours to play them? I thought The Show was going to be my last purchase for the spring. Then came F1, and last week it was Birds of Steel. Those three alone are enough to suck up more time than I have. But, I still play Fifa, would like to play NBA2k12 and havent touched a shooter in weeks.

Re: Too many good games, not enough time to enjoy them
I have a much broader issue. Not only do I have too many good videogames (for me MLB the Show, NBA 2K12, NHL, etc) but I also have too many other activities that I like to do such as play with the kids, run, read, bike ride, golf, lift, board games, watch movies, guitar, some TV, etc. Throw in sleep, work, managing finances, yard and car maintenance, church, soccer practice....I'm booked solid! The good news at least is that I can multi-task (play a board game with the kids, watch TV/movies with my wife, lift while watching sports, etc.)
I don't think I'll ever "retire" from gaming but right now I may as well as I'm down to a couple hours here and there and can go weeks without turning on a gaming system.

Not only am I suffering from it, I think it's terminal... I have a backlog of AAA titles leering at me from their boxes and I still went out Sunday morning to jump on Target's B2G1 sale this week, adding Amalur, Skyward Sword and MLB12 (only some 300+ hours of gameplay that I don't haveFifaInspected wrote:Anyone else suffering from too many games and not enough hours to play them? I really have to go through my unopened, unstarted games sometime... Skyrim, Uncharted 3, Borderlands, Arkham Asylum, Bioshock 2, ME3, Assassin's Creed 2, Gears 3, Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, etc.

Re: Too many good games, not enough time to enjoy them
I think I mentioned before, but I have something like 20+ games I've purchased on Steam (Steam sales!) that I've yet to even download, let a lone play. Ditto for a number of 360 games still in the shrinkwrap.
It's a great time to be a gamer.

- the next game you play should be Assassin's Creed 2, it's my favourite on that list and if you play Skyrim instead you'll probably only get round to the other titles in 2013 !

I actually just re-started gamefly to play through some "old" games; LA Noire, Rage, AC2, Deus Ex, Arkham City... I will be bouncing around between them, Tiger Woods, F1, and NHL 12. No rush, but no time for anything more.
I bought and sold Skyrim because it would've been too much of a time drain. I like more compact games these days.

I'm down to about an hour a week if that on the big consoles. I'm at the point that i'm enjoying Android games more because they are simple and don't require a lot of time and most of them look very good. So far my biggest time killer is Zombie Rampage which is a game I can play at 5 minute burst.Naples39 wrote:I like more compact games these days.
The only PC game that still gets incredible time is F1 2010 and F1 2011.

The Show's RTTS mode is the ideal compact game for me. Love the fact that I can knock out a handful of games in 30 minutes.

It's gone beyond gaming for me at this point. With the easy VOD from places like Netflix, Zune etc., there is just way too much content out there to consume.
I've been laid up all weekend, which has given me a free pass for electronic entertainment. I finished the main quest in Skyrim, and now I keep ricocheting between Game of Thrones, Season 3 of Justified, Mass Effect 3 and NBA 2K12.
The whole time, I'm stuck thinking about the pile of great stuff that I haven't even gotten to yet: Birds of Steel, Downton Abbey, Combat Mission:Normandy, the Batman games, the last two AC's, The Witcher 2...and about 25 movies in my Netflix queue. It never ends LOL

Re: Too many good games, not enough time to enjoy them
I usually find an hour or so to game on a few nights a week -- after my daughter goes to bed and my wife does prep work for her classes. But that sort of schedule lends itself to playing sports games or stuff like Battlefield 3 -- games where I have a distinct time expectation or that I can drop at any time. Games like Skyrim and Mass Effect are the ones I have a tough time completing. They are games where you almost have to commit to 2-3 hours (or more) of playing in a session.
My ideal adventure game is one I started this week, Uncharted 3. It's very story-driven, action-packed, but very digestible. I can get through a chapter in 60-90 minutes and finish the game in 2-3 weeks.

Re: Too many good games, not enough time to enjoy them
Compact games...yeah, that's becoming me. I just couldn't get into Mass Effect 3, and once I finished the main story of Reckoning, I sold it. With so much going on, and my life taking a welcome healthier turn, I find myself wanting to actually *do*, rather than sit the time required and play video games as much. That being said, I have too many of the damned things, too. OPF:RR, OPF:DR, Battlefield 3 (anyone remember that little game?), Birds of Steel, SSX, the upcoming Tiger...and the half dozen Kinect titles that the kids want to play on family nights. Plus, I'm getting up at 5am daily now for Crossfit, so my late nights are gone.
That's the one reason why I would like to see us go back to dedicated 'nights' for things. Poker Nights made everything easier to do. You guys have a racing night, I'd like to at least call one a shooter night, and bounce between RR, Battlefield, and the awesome looking GR:FS when it arrives. I'll also be picking up Sniper Elite 2, because the first was one of the most enjoyable experiences I've ever had. But then there's Tiger nights, BoS nights...
...yeah, I'm running out of days of the week now...
I'm just not able, or really willing, to pour as much time into playing games in front of the tv as I used to be. I've pared down quite a bit of my gaming collection and habits in the last month, opting out of MLB 2k12, selling NBA 2k12, hocking NCAA football, Reckoning, ME3, among a few others. I'm going to be much pickier about my game purchases in the future. Yeah, yeah, I folded and bought Birds of Steel, but that's one that I can play here and there, as well as the occasional co-op and online session.

With this weather we are having, hockey playoffs coming up, baseball and yes.. all these great games, it is a busy time for sure!
Not to mention I coach 3 youth soccer teams.
I need to trade some games to get Far Cry 3 and the new Bioshock coming out.

What I'd like to do over the next few months is finish a few games I have sitting around -- Skyrim, Deus Ex, and Mass Effect 2, and then pick up Mass Effect 3. Those games plus The Show should be more than enough until the fall releases.

Re: Too many good games, not enough time to enjoy them
You sound like me, I have a HUGE backlog of games/DVDs/Blu-Rays. To give you an idea, I am just now getting around to finishing Dead Space... part 1! I've got something like 40 sealed games and God knows how many sealed movies and TV series. I think the hardest thing is just coming to grips that you can't watch every good TV show and play every good game in the world. You could do it when you were a kid without a job, but that's about it. I finally have started to relent a bit on watching/playing everything in chronological order, and have been cherry picking things that I just wanted to watch/play the most or at the moment... acknowledging there is some stuff that I may just not get to.GameSeven wrote:Not only am I suffering from it, I think it's terminal... Re: Too many good games, not enough time to enjoy them
Fortunately for my wallet, while there are are plethora of quality games presently, there are few titles that appeal to me anymore. Slowly, my gaming addiction has tailed off. I actually read and visit more gaming sites than I actually play.
I can no longer play FPS or open world games because of how nauseous/dizzy they make me feel after 15 or 20 minutes. Not that I was ever really in to them that much anyways.
Really, sports games are the only games that still excite me, and lucky for me there are far less sports titles than the mainstream A+ games. Right now, I'm strictly playing MLB The Show (taking a break until the OS rosters are released) and I'm completely content. I might gamefly Tiger Woods eventually, and get my $16 worth playing the game for a few weeks. Other than that, I'm in a happy place with my gaming.

Re: Too many good games, not enough time to enjoy them
Friday Night F1 races are my only consistent console gaming of the week. I might play for about an hour or two per week other than that.
It's OK, because F1 2011 is ... F*CKING AWWWWWWWWWWWESOME.
I've already weeded the rush of games I bought in November and December when I returned with glee to console gaming. I've entered a "quality over quantity" focus with my 360, probably trading or selling two games for every one that I buy.

Re: Too many good games, not enough time to enjoy them
these days there are so many other things to do rather than gaming. If I miss a great game here or there it doesn't really bother me. I know I can always get to play them at a later time and probably at a cheaper price. Only some sports games are must haves for me. but even those, since in the era of exclusive licenses, you're not getting that many different features in the next title.
Re: Too many good games, not enough time to enjoy them
Between traveling, work, driving kids to school, and running your typical errands daily I am surprised that I've found extra time for the TW13 preview. Cutting down on sleep is the only way where I can get my daily 1 or 2 for gaming and I don't even won't to look at my current games in the back log.
Re: Too many good games, not enough time to enjoy them
I just do not have the time or energy lately to keep up with all these games. I played an NBA 2K13 game with a buddy last night, thinking I need to play that one more. Then we moved over to Black Ops 2 (surprised how much I'm enjoying that) and I'm wishing I had more time for that one too. Still have not tried Zombie mode and barely touched the SP.
My usual first choice for MP these days is BF3. I don't think I've seen all the DLC maps and I forgot a few of the originals. Was enjoing Forza Horizon, but that got set aside. I almost finished the campaign in Halo 4, but have barely touched MP.
Then there's still a whole list of fall games I haven't bought yet but want to get to like XCOM, Dishonored, Hitman, AC3, NFS:MW. Looks like they're waiting till next year. Then there is the older backlog. If did not buy a game for another year, I'd still have too much
So what do I do? I go ahead and put together PC that can handle new games. Of course I need some games for that and since I haven't gamed on PC for several years, they are dirt cheap. In 1 week I gamed about 10 minutes on the PC. And the Wii U arrives on Christmas. That's more for my son, but I will want to try Madden with the gamepad. And some Zombi U.

Re: Too many good games, not enough time to enjoy them
I'm either burned out, or I'm slowly losing interest in video games all together. None of the the recent top non-sports games have interested me (still like reading the previews and reviews), and sports games sadly no longer have that pull like they once did. Which is strange because they're much better represented than they ever have been.
I'll still play a game here and there of NBA 2K13, NHL 13, and Madden, but will only play every few days or once a week. Still very much looking forward to MLB 13, but that'll most likely be the first game I buy in a few months.

Re: Too many good games, not enough time to enjoy them
I realized this issue a couple of years ago with myself. It just didn't make sense to me to buy games at full price and have them sit. So I quit that and played what I had for a while (which was more than plenty). Since then I usually only pick up pre-owned at GS. So the games I would have paid $60 for new and have sit, I get for $20 or less used when I will actually play them. I've only had one issue with any of the pre-owned I've bought from the GS by my house. Of course there are those few games where the urge took over (Skyrim, Red Dead)

Yeah, I'm pretty much a candidate for Gamefly and rentals at this point. I get the urge every now and then to try a big budget title like Uncharted 3, Halo 4, Sleeping Dogs, Hitman, etc but I'll only play the game a couple days if that before I no longer have an interest to play them.JOZ wrote:I realized this issue a couple of years ago with myself. Part of the reason could be is that I'm simply overhwelmed at the number of quality titles out there. I'm amazed at how quickly people finish these games and move on to the next and I've barely completed 10 percent of the game.
Re: Too many good games, not enough time to enjoy them
I have way too many games and little time to p,ay them. Between family, work, and my running I should just quit altogether because it would save me a small fortune in wasted funds.
