AT&T Drops ESPN 3D Channel

Post by Murph »

Personally, 3D does nothing for me, whether it's TV, movies, games, etc.

No surprise. I always felt the 3D HDTV was not ready for the public and because of the same reason, having to wear 3D glasses. The same applies to 3D gaming.

I live in a 3D world. Sometimes I just need a break from that 3rd dimension. This old dog don't want to learn new tricks.

Actually, the couple of times I've seen 3D TVs in action, the images looked unnatural. Didn't like the views one bit.

3d tv with glasses was always going to be a tough sell. Everyone is just finishing upgrading their tvs to HD, and have no appetite to upgrade again in this economy.

3d comes back every 20 years and always fails to get a mass support. From the 50s they've been trying to push 3D on us. when will they learn it's not catching on. who wants to wear glasses. Now if they can get 3D to work without wearing those silly glasses, they may have something.

Nintendo figured it out. I'll buy in when the tv guys figure out the 'no glasses' 3d...

Yup and look at the mass adoption by loyal 3d fans. Oh wait...they aren't selling systems? Damn, nevermind.

Nintendo's 3d is absolutely terrible. Yeah, if you hold your head in the sweet spot, it looks ok, but anything other than the 3 degree sweet spot, it looks terrible and gives you a headache. Not exactly good for the living room if everyone has to sit on one persons lap cuz it's the only spot with 3D.

I didn't say they perfected it, just that they figured out a way to display 3D without glasses. Give it some time, and someone will figure out how to do it in a way that will fix what they started. Until then, the 3D TV crowd can have their glasses, I won't buy into it.

I think 3D is pretty cool and is good for watching sports programming but like others have pointed out it's just too expensive at the moment and wearing goggles sucks. It has some big obstacles to overcome before it goes mainstream.

This.

Never worked for me even at the theatre. Even there the novelty wore off pretty quick. It was cool for the 5 minutes after my initial headache wore but after that all I was left with was those annoying glasses.

Every time I scroll by ESPNHD they seem to have the same national championship game listed.

I find wearing the glasses a lot more tolerable than holding the 3DS in exactly the right spot. Plus, there's no content I'm interested in on 3DS - if I'm not interested in it in 2D, 3D won't change my mind.

I'm not terribly excited about 3D in general, but maybe I'll bite once the TVs come down in price and more games support it. We're working on implementing 3D for our games, and it does really make pinball look a lot better. I've also heard good things about nvidia's solution for 3D, but again, I'd have to get a monitor that supports it, and right now it's not worth the money.
