COOL! Very stoked the PC is included as a platform.
Rally hasn't enjoyed a solid new PC title since Richard Burns Rally, which is 6 years old. RBR is so damn good, though, that I haven't missed an updated game.
Still, this is great news!
Take care,
PK

Because I'm all about resurrecting long-forgotten threads on racing games lately, here's some gameplay footage of the upcoming WRC game:

I love Milestone's SBK series of superbike racing games, but their two recent four-wheeled efforts (V8 Superstars and V8 Superstars: Next Challenge, both of which are demoed on the UK Marketplace if they're not available where you are) were of nothing like the same standard - in fact, the first of those games was downright awful. I'm struggling to hold out too much hope for WRC, though I really hope I'm wrong.

I would cut them slack because they are well known for racing sims. It could have been the Publisher who told them to make those two V8 games on the arcade side. The same happened with Blimey games who was making NFS: Shift. They were originally told to make full sim then EA had them back off during the development so we got a cross between PGR and Forza.
I hope they make the full WRC track layouts, that would be cool instead of the 3-4 minute tracks which have been a trademark in Rally games.
I also hope they get rid of that god awful music.

They're not on the arcade side, mate. The second one in particular is keen to stress the importance of tyre wear and looking after your machinery. It's just...you know, there. Vanilla. Gaming beige. If the publisher gave orders, they must have been instructed to make the game as average as they could.Rodster wrote:I would cut them slack because they are well known for racing sims. One of Evolution's old WRC games - either WRC 3 or 4, or perhaps even both of them, and I no longer own a Sony console so I can't really check - had some long and challenging stages that were at least inspired by the real things. WRC 4 in particular was fabulous, and it's a real shame Sony didn't continue to push the series in North America.
I've got no idea why you'd ever watch a video on a rallying game and think "You know what this is missing? Beat It." Clearly someone did. Hopefully it was their last day at work.

I make my living dealing with people who'd pee in their own cereal and then contact me to complain it tasted a bit funny, but as it happens I'm in a remarkably sunny mood. It's just that I don't like Beat It. It's the least appropriate choice of music since the DJ on the in-house radio station at my old job dedicated "this next song to all you lovers this Valentine's Day", then played this.Rodster wrote:Whew, someone pee in your cereal this morning? In fairness to Milestone, the handling model for V8 Superstars: Next Challenge wasn't all that bad, though it had a touch of the central pivots about it. The AI was pretty dismal but that's not a problem in a rallying game, as long as the target stage times are pitched properly. It's not out of the question that this could be a decent little game, and it's not as if I've played it to make any kind of judgement, but I can't help being a bit sceptical.

I saw a blurb about this game in E3 coverage, but there was so little info it wasn't worth posting. I would like to check out another rally game--just can't get into the Dirt series--but firmly in wait and see mode for this game. Obviously graphics are nowhere near Dirt, and gameplay quality remains to be seen.
Cockpit cam, man! C'mon! What self-respecting rally fan plays the game from the 'chase' view?!?
It looks pretty good right now, graphically speaking. Couldn't tell about the physics; they could be really good, and the guy a not-so-good driver-I'd be willing to bet that. 'Course, I have no idea what the guy was talking about...

October 8th on all formats with a demo sometime around mid-September.
These are European dates, and Milestone's games usually take at least a year to make it over the Atlantic, but if it's the PC version you're after, I'd imagine that doesn't matter.

Just want to play a game with the drivers I watch on TV. Really enjoy watching the Rally racing even if Loeb seems to dominate.

I'm interested in the PC as well because of the resolution. If the controls aren't as good as the console then i'll get the 360.

Every computer game works with the 360 controller these days. No reason to think this one wouldn't...thus, the control will be the same. See Dirt 2 for the best example.Rodster wrote:I'm interested in the PC as well because of the resolution. If the controls aren't as good as the console then i'll get the 360.

Have a hard time believing this will be any better on the PC than Richard Burns Rally with the RSRBR updates.

Not for you or me, mate. The majority of gamers, though, are probably going to prefer the idea of a rally game that isn't such an exacting, punishing test of skill and patience. Call RBR anything you like - I call it brilliant, as I know you do - but you're never going to get away with calling it accessible...pk500 wrote:Have a hard time believing this will be any better on the PC than Richard Burns Rally with the RSRBR updates.
