NBA 2K10

Post by Rodster »

I checked to see if anyone started a thread on this and couldn't find one 11 pages in. If someone finds it just merge this thread with it. Anyone planning on going with this over Live 10? I tried the demo and I thought it was fun like last year but didn't do it for me as much as NBA2K9.

Check this deal out for anyone interested in buying the game. 8)

Pre-order NBA 2K10 PS3/360 $52.99, Wii $46.99, PC $19.99 receive $10 credit towards a future video game purchase.

I wanted to try 2K9 last year but there were widespread reports of it not working online, especially for multiplayer games.

There were also people unhappy that the lobby system was removed.

At the 2K Sports site, there's some blurb about the ultimate online setup but doesn't say much else.

Did they ever patch any of these problems last year?

2K has a history of promising a lot of things, especially for online, but they are broken, like the first onilne league attempt for NFL2K4 on the PS2.

2K most likely. Tho, after horrible first impressions and playing the Live demo more and more (since it was the only one available this week) it's starting to grow on me. I'll get both and sell the worst...Since 2004, I have always purchased both and Live is the one to hit eBay...so we'll see if that trend continues.

I'm rolling with the 2K PC version since it'll cost me $9.99 and I know my PC should run it quite nicely even though it's a 2 year old rig.

Demo = ehhhh

I don't know...this thing is just same old same old. It certainly looks better than Live but I think I may just be sick of playing the 2k game. I don't know...I'm gonna buy both of course, but from the demos...after a horrible first impression, Live seems to be inching ahead. I mean, I'm sure that 2k will probably be a better game that plays more realistic, but at some point, playing the same game gets a bit tired. I play the sh*t out of the NBA games, so I may just need a year off from the 2k formula. That said, 2k will probably win in the head to head when I get em.

Kind of in the same boat.

The NBA 2K series is up there with any sports series ever, but it is getting stale, and it's been a mixed bag with regards to them fixing what needs to be fixed over the last few years. Over at OS, the response to the full retail version has been kind of lukewarm as well. The presentation and commentary (which wasn't really in demo) sounds phenomenal, if that's any consolation.

And this is the first year that the NBA Live demo hasn't made me retch, so it may be time to jump ship for me as well. Curious when some reviews come in.

Had a chance to play the demo and all I can say is wow. It maybe the same 'ol same 'ol but damn this game is refined and plays like real BB. NBA Live while pretty fun is still just that, fun. It has the smooth natural commentary and fun gameplay but if you are serious about Bball get 2K10.

The one thing 2K 10 needs to dump next year is the stupid interface. They did it with NHL 2K10 and now NBA 2K10.

Damn I hope I didn't make a mistake buying Live 10 for the 360 this year. 2K10 is utter magic for me. I've been playing the PC version, may have to add the 360 version as well as my PC has a hard time running it.

2k is legit...Live is just as good tho. And it's different. I'm pretty sure that's why quite a few people are migrating. If you haven't played the sh*t out of 2k for the past 5 years, then 2k is the way to go from an overall standpoint. I just am bored and wishing that I was playing Live when I'm playing 2k. Plus, some dude just paid me 55 bucks on eBay for the thing. LOL.

I still sit here with both unopened. Ive played the snot out of both demos. Ive become addicted to reading impressions about the two on the internet which is living dangerously Ill admit.

I think I may go the 2k route. Then hopefully EAs college game will be up to snuff like the NBA and I'll grab that. Then with one of each Ill have a little variety....unless of course EA does hoops like Madden/NCAA so they are genetic opposites.

I just bought a new copy from Half.com for $41.49 shipped. I got the PC version but it stutters a little on my aged 2 year old hardware LOL.

I'd say 2K for balls out realism but db and others have been praising the hell out of Live 10 so I bought it yesterday at TRU, part of the B2G1. For me the 2K demo was very impressive and after playing the Live 10 demo I though meh, as I still have Live 09 and thought it was a lot of fun last year.

What's funny is that I thought 2K9 was decent last year and had more fun with Live 09. This year I get the opposite feeling. Like I said I picked it up based on the B-Ballers here glossing Live. The audio in 2K10 is damn impressive in fact the play by play guy is from years past but this year they nailed it in the commentary dept.

What exactly makes 2K more "serious" bball? Why does a game have to be "serious" or "fun"? Can't it be both? Everyone keeps saying 2K is better if you are "serious" about your bball, but what about Live isn't "serious"?

Both games have their flaws...and in fact, after playing more and more Live, I'm convinced that both are fantastic sims. The main issue in both games is that it's WAY too easy to get in the lane, which in turn, makes it both games rely heavily on points in the paint. You'll get a lot more dunks and shots with contact in Live and you'll get a lot more post moves with 2k...so its pick your poison really. Both games are flawed in that department.

There are three things that set Live apart for me. Out of the box stats (waaaaay better than 2k without going to slider hell), the freestyle control and the jump shots. The lack of slider tweaking, that's obvious, and so is the WAY better freestyle control but the jump shots I'm speaking of are not.

There is just something so sweet about the shooting in Live. It's the first game to just NAIL the momentum, the step backs, the euro steps, etc. There are so many options to how you get the shot off it's insane. In 2k, you really have your pull up jumpers, and driving the lane for a layup whatever. In Live, there are multiple ways to get your shot off...manual bank shots to get the ball up high in case of a big man trying to block it, step backs when you're facing someone up, step backs when you're on the move right or left, floaters, tear drops, shots while jumping side ways like when your'e running across the lane, etc.

Sure, 2k has a lot of those things but they are all done automatically in the context of your surroundings...Live, you pick the shot and you control it. I can't explain how satisfying it is to pick the right shot when you're breaking your guy down off the dribble or trying to hit that game winner. It's really what puts Live on the map this year.

It sounds like 2K is having problems with online again, especially the multiplayer online.

Lot of places have Live at $50 instead of $60.

I agree. I watched that "shooting" tutorial and it's brillaint how you can change your shot so easily by just a subtle move of the left stick. My only wish is that Live would implement the shotstick like 2K has. The shooting mechanic in hoops could be just like the shooting in NHL games. Not sure why they have stuck to button presses for shooting?

I hope they NEVER implement that - having the right stick be freestyle controls is so much better, especially with how easy they've made it to modify the shots with the left stick. I like that the dribbling controls are as intuitive and accessible as they are in live; in the 2K series, I always feel like I'm trying to pull off a combo from a fighting game when I want to do a hesitation crossover (disclaimer, I haven't played this years version except for the combine demo - I'll check out the changes if/when the demo ever hits the PS3).

Agreed EZ...it's much better for controlling the ball while dribbling which is a hellova lot more realistic. Even mapping the right stick in 2k to freestyle dribble moves is bad as you never really know what move is going to take place. Live's system is outstanding now...and going to the one button shooting is much more intuitive as well.
