NFL Season 2009

Post by Rodster »

Well it looks like Al Davis is up to his Rick Speilman impersonation. He decided to give up a 1st rounder in 2011 for Richard Seymour at 30 years old and in his last year of his contract. Too bad Miami didn't have any players Al could have wanted. We could have used another 1st rd pick in 2011.

How there isn't a revolt in Oakland is beyond me. :P

I wonder whether Al has regressed so much that he has adopted the business model last seen in 'Major League'. How a team with the brand presence of the Raiders can turn itself into a laughing stock in the league and bottom of the assessed franchise value table is quite beyond rational thought.

It's a good thing for Al the NFL can't suspend an owner for stupidity. Btw Major League is still one of my all time favorite movies.

I wonder if they have a full size figure of Al Davis in the locker room which they tear bits of covering off, a la Rachel Phelps. Maybe this explains their reluctance to 'Just win, baby !"

The Bills are f*cked. It's never a good sign when a team fires its offensive coordinator 10 days before the start of the regular season.

I'm looking at 6-10, maybe 7-9. Let's hope Ralph already has started the search committee for a replacement for Jauron.

Take care,
PK

How he got the job in the first place is beyond me. Memo to NFL owners when a head coach gets fired for sucking and leaving the team in worse shape than when he got there, don't hire that person. :P

He got the gig in Chicago based in large part on the fact that he was a "nice boy" and went to mass with the Halas family. I think old Virginia thought she was picking suitors for one of her daughters. :)

And the plot thickens in Oakland. No sign and contact from Richard Seymour. Al Davis must be pissed and Bill Billicheat must be sweating bullets at the thought of losing his number 1 pick from Oakland in 2011.

Seahawks will probably end second in a rather weak division, and their season can't get any worse than last years, plagued by injuries. Hasselbeck seems to be healthy again and he's obviously the key to running the offense. Based on the couple of games that I watched during pre-season, I like the energy that new coach Jim Mora will bring to the defense and with the additon of K. Lucas, they should be an improved bunch in the secondary.

Al probably sees time running out on him before seeing a winner again.

The Raiders defense looked horrible in the preseason so probably a little desperate.

49ers hire Singletary just as coaches like Holmgren, Shanahan and Gruden become available.

They want to run 60% of the time and play smash-mouth but with no explosive threat in the passing game, they'll be running through defenses set up like a brick wall to stop the run.

Singletary is an inspirational figure but he hasn't attracted the best coaches to join the staff because he hasn't coached long enough to become known and respected by many other position coaches.

So the 49ers have Jimmy Raye as OC.

Anyone setting up the NFL picks contest again? That's been fun the last couple of years.

Jackdog is over modding at OS so I don't think he is doing it, he was the one that did it.

Mike Florio's: NFL coaches on the hot seat: AFC edition

http://www.sportingnews.com/nfl/article ... fc-edition

Tom Cable, Raiders. He's the head coach of the Raiders. So he'll always be on the hot seat. The swirling allegations that he broke an assistant's jaw don't help matters, either. Though that alone won't get him fired, it'll make it easier for owner Al Davis to pull the trigger if the losses mount.

Hot seat setting: High, with the knob removed.

They better hurry up and sign Seymour.

maintaing low expectations for the Jets.

it will be better for Mark Sanchez, if other jets fans do the same.

he will be good. And it will take time. In particular, when his best WR has the last name Cotchery

When Hines Ward fumbled in the Red Zone with less than a minute to play all I could think of was this:

PIT fans, you'll like the addition of Stefan Logan on your kick returns. This guy has played in the CFL for my BC Lions and he's one dude to watch out for. Very quick. Tough luck for Polamalu, you better watch your back Fitzgerald.

I love what I've seen and heard about Logan so far. The Steelers have not had a good KR man in years...and it looks like Logan could be a huge difference maker for them.

Very entertaining game last night. The NFL never fails to deliver. No wonder it's America's passion and pastime combined.

Take care,

Agreed. Right after the Ward fumble, one of my buddies sent me a sarcastic text saying that he couldn't wait for the NBA regular season. :)
