Race Pro is inadequate at best
Figured I'd make a new thread, instead of trashing the current RacePro threads on here.. I really think this game is kinda like that ugly looking girl at the bar at closing time.. You can either have her or go home alone, and a lot of people have picked up RacePro due to the fact it's pretty much the ONLY game in town.. If this was a shooting game, people would rip the s*** out of it due to the other, higher quality games available. RacePro is the only sim in town when it comes to 360 gaming, so a lot of you sim guys picked it up. I feel it's important that this game sells well, or sim developers will quite possibly abandon the 360 and just focus on making computer sims. I played this game for a few hours (tjungin it
and I was pretty let down.. If this game bombs, it could be the end of sim gaming on the 360. I took the game back to the store and got store credit. I'm a bit let down. I'm wondering if you guys who are playing it are truly satisfied, or if you're just playing it since it's better than Forza2 or one of those clownshoes games. Racing on Ps1 and Ps2 was awesome! Sucks that we have a powerful system in the 360, and all they can make are games like Burnout and the like. Had to rant for a bit due to my unhappiness with this game. I thought 3999 was a deal, but at this point I think that it was still overpriced. This game was meant to come out a long time ago, and it shows. AI is suspect at best. Am I the only one with these feelings?

"Inadequate at best" is insane.
Satisfied as can be with the racing and handling model, which is worlds above anything that's come before it. The frills and stuff that may be "great" in Forza games don't do it for me. Racing and the handling does, and it's got it in spades.
I don't even know what else to say.

I've played hundreds of hours of racing games in my life, and I dunno.. I just don't enjoy this game. Maybe I'm in the minority. I really hope I am, since I wanna see sims have some kinda niche on the 360. This game could be a real stepping stone for other games. The AI bugs me. The graphics have grown on me, and I can respect them. I've done a lot of real life road racing, and this game didn't capture it for me. Not trying to be a downer, just venting a bit

Sorry to hear you didn't have much luck with it Fletch. Are you complaining about the graphics or the experience as a whole? I think Race Pro achieves what it set out to achieve but unfortunately it is lacking in some areas where perhaps more time in development would've helped. Namely the online issues and stability as a whole (crashes etc...). I like the game because the physics engine feels very life like to me. Racing online, while buggy, has been a lot of fun when it does work and that was basically the reason I bought the game. By the way I didn't think Forza 2 and NASCAR 09 were all that bad as sim-style racers either. Although I've never sat behind the wheel of a racing car in my life so what do I know?
:):)
I sound like a broken record here but did you try it with the wheel?

I gotta disagree Fletch. Sure it's not a hi-res graphics showcase but the physics model is the best on any console to date maybe with the exception of F355 Challenge on the Dreamcast.
The AI is not as brilliant as say Geoff Crammond's F1 games but it's still miles ahead of any EA Sports, Gran Turismo, Forza 2 or any other console racer to date.

Yeah, tried it on a wheel with a 52" HDTV.. The graphics are the least of my concerns. The game has a lot of potential, I just feel like it was released with some things still left to be fixed. This is the only true sim on the 360, so it can't really be compared to other games. I wanted to like this game, but I just don't. I feel like we all deserve a GREAT game, since this is 2009 and we're on the ps3 and 360 now. I can think of some ps1 and ps2 games that were overall a better package. I dunno, I'm sure I sound like a cynical asshole by now but I'm bummed. My friend here LOVES the game, and says I am "gay for hating a game as bad ass as RacePro" so who knowsmacsomjrr wrote:Sorry to hear you didn't have much luck with it Fletch. I just feel like as a total package, the 360 could have given us so much more. People on this very website have compared the graphics to an HD original Xbox game. The braking is spot on, and the cars handle decently. The AI bugs me a lot. It's better than Gran Turismo, but it could have been so much better. I was hoping the AI cars would resemble real life drivers, but they don't. I had a few issues with leaving the pits. The graphics don't bother me anymore, but I just feel blah overall. I'd give the game a 6/10. I don't consider it a total failure, I just think it could have been a grade A game, but fell short at the end.
This is like the anarchy thread. Redundant threads and images in sigs.

Pretty sure that is a no-no. We voted these out years ago. How about a link to your gamertag account at mygamercard.net? I know it is small and really not that annoying but once you open the door to images in signatures.
We end up with this.

in a way............ haven't you just described most games we play? I walked away from gaming for about a year, but watched as a spectator and a few things really came into focus for me.
1. When and why did video games become so damn important. They're simply a means of entertainment.... games.
2. Gamers expectations are sky high.
3. When a game comes out, the first thing people do is try to figure out what's wrong with it. The second thing they do is start a thread "wish list for next years release"
As for Race Pro. We all read the reviews, and the reviews clearly indicated "proceed with caution" over the issues that are being complained about post release.
Personally I do not agree with you... I got just what I was expecting. A racing game about racing. No box of crayons to color my cars with, no earth shattering graphics or tracks that I can drive backwards, sideways and reconfigured. I got a racing sim and little else AND I only had to pay $39.00. Truth be told, even with the well noted issues with the game I'm sitting here trying to really figure out why i'm having so much more fun with this game that I ever did with Forza. There is something very "race" authentic that is greatly adding to the experience.. and being able to race with level headed people is just the icing on the cake
Best of luck.

You stated in another thread that you were going to return it before opening it since it's a dealbreaker that you cannot use the face buttons for gas and brake. I think that alone says a lot about how much you are into serious racing games. Your comments above further confirm that suspicion.fletcher21 wrote:Figured I'd make a new thread, instead of trashing the current RacePro threads on here.. Hey! Mariokart uses the face buttons why can't Race Pro!?!?!?!toonarmy wrote:You stated in another thread that you were going to return it before opening it since it's a dealbreaker that you cannot use the face buttons for gas and brake. To me, this game is amazing. With the wheel, it feels better then any game I have played on a console. Sure the graphics are not up to par, and the collisions with other cars are a bit tacky, but on the track this game plays as good as any PC game by simbin. Playing on a pro, you feel like you are actually driving into the corners, feathering the brake and gas and holding off the AI from trying to get inside. It just feels right.

You obviously haven't been paying much attention to these threads. The MSRP for this game has always been $39.99.WillHunting wrote:This game just dropped to $39.99 at Gamestop, that was quick.

my problem is that is doesn't look OR FEEL as good as the PC version (Race 07). It's hard to go from one to the other. If it weren't for DSP nights, I would have no reason to get Race 360 at all.forensicd wrote:To me, this game is amazing. With the wheel, it feels better then any game I have played on a console. Re: Race Pro is inadequate at best
A couple things. First, the triggers are much more realistic than the buttons. Last time I checked, brakes and gas in a real car are not all or nothing. Second, you are so full of crap it's not even funny if you think anyone believes you spend hours driving on real tracks in real race cars. You don't have to makeup stuff to try to legitimize your point. Third, you can play this game perfectly fine with the controller, without a wheel setup, due to the numerous ways to tune the controller.ANY use of a controller on a driving "simulator" is not gonna be realistic. Using the triggers for gas and brake feels like s*** to me. Using the buttons as opposed to the triggers is exactly the same thing to me. I've spent HOURS driving on real life tracks in real race cars, so I'm not just some guy who thinks cars need to hit jumps at 200mph and get power ups to be fun. I'm into serious racing games, but to enjoy this game you need a wheel and pedal setup it seems like. I'd rather spend that money on real cars and real racing. Glad you guys are enjoying it, though!
