I like Tennis games so I may give this one a go if the reviews are good.

You need to mix in a EBGames/Gamestop search...again.

EB does show the game shipping out on the 23rd of June. I guess i'll pass on this one for now as $59.99 is a little too much for this one. I remember Top Sin 2 dropped in price 2-3 months after it was released and I still have that one..

I just traded a couple of games for the pre-order. Xbox magazine had a very positive review, I thought the controls on TP 2 needed some tweaking here and there and it didn't have the fun factor that VT 3 had. They seem to have tighten the controls and I look forward to it next month.

It'd be great if you can play doubles using OTP kind of mode.

I think VT is also doing a sequel?

I've been playing a lot of Smash Court Tennis and much to my surprise, I absolutely love it. I work at Atari so this might come across as biased. But the mechanics of volleying and aiming your shots feels so much more natural and realistic to me than Top Spin 2. You hold down the button as the ball is coming at you and time the button release upon contact for maximum effectiveness. I've been having a blast with it here at work.

I had SmashCourt on the PS2 and enjoyed the gameplay aspects. My issue was with the career mode. You would be in tournaments, but instead of playing best of 3 or 5 sets and needing to win 6 games, you would play one set and only need to win 3 games and the match would be over.

Did the previous TopSpin allow you to play full matches?

Smash Court isn't due until August and only for the 360?

Given its Japanese origins, online options might be limited, especially something like OTP doubles.

One thing in the VT3 demo that I didn't like was how every player could play the net and the volleys were all the same types for all players. Some real soft ones but the smash volleys all looked the same.

And the computer was absolutely stupid about leaning the wrong way.

These games need online modes to have better, less predictable play from opponents.

As in most Tennis games, the World Tour mode should be the beef of the game, so how could it be missing for the PS3? Although they do mention of a patch fix, I'll be digging the 360 one for sure.

I checked the preview at IGN and there was no mention of it. The hannds on said the controls were "sketchy".

I hear you have to go into practice to get used to the controls, your position to the ball as it's being struck will depend at how the ball comes at you, in other words if you hit it at knee level, chances are that you smacked a good one, but if you're pull wide then it's more of a defensive shot. Just as it should be, it won't be arcady like VT3 I assume.

Look forward to my copy tomorrow.

The OS forums seem to be painting a positive picture of the new gameplay style so far. Some are bummed about the loss of Nadal (on the 360) and no Wimbledon but if it plays a good game of tennis then the loss of those things doesn't bother me at all.

No big 'W'? What's up with that? Now, the PS3 seems to be lacking the Tour mode which is the meat of any Tennis game although they did mention of a patch. Which version did you get DB? I wasn't aware of the absence of Nadal, if this game picks up steam here I'll look into the 360 version for sure, if not it'll be my next PS3 game since HSG: Out of bounds.

Got the 360 version...and when was the last time you guys got a 6 page dissertation from me about anything but a piece of electronic equipment? I don't get into games like that anymore.
