Rugby 08 PC

Post by robschina »

I just got rugby 08 and am having one hell of a time installing it on my pc. When I put the disk in the tray, the install screen pops up and when I click on install, it then takes me to the screen where you type in the code from the back of the manual. Once I finish typing in the code and click on next nothing happens, the screen disappears and it just seems like the drive is not reading the disk. Ive tried for days to get this game installed and am now extremely frustrated. I've never encountered anything like this while installing a game. Could it be because the game was imported from The United Kingdom? If anyone has any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanx.

That's odd, Rob. PC games are region-free, so the import status should have no effect.

Good luck!

Take care,

I doubt it has anything to do with it being an import. PC's are much different than consoles thank goodness. You can install and play games from different regions and it should never be an issue unless the game requires the install in a foreign language.

Your problem maybe as simple as having your spyware or anti-virus program running in the background. If those are running you need to turn them off before installing any EA Sports game.

You also need to tell us what kind of PC specs you have when trying to install this game on as well as what operating system you have?

It might be a longshot, but make sure you have the latest version of Flash installed on your PC:

http://www.adobe.com/software/flashplayer/

Sometimes, when an EASPORTS game is installing on the PC, it will pull up a screen asking if you want to install online elements. Frequently, this screen is powered by Flash and may be causing the hang in the install process if you don't have the latest version installed.

Hell:

Good idea, but probably a moot point with Rugby 08 since it doesn't offer online play. I don't recall the EA Link or EA Online components dialog boxes popping up when I installed the game.

Worth a try, though!

I just thought of this! When I uninstalled Madden 07, I also uninstalled the EA Online program with it. When I installed Madden 08(which by the way is great on the pc) it did prompt me to install the adobe program in order to play online along with some other program which I can't remember the name of, but anyway I chose not to install these figuring that if I wanted to play online I could just install at a later date. Now that was the last game I installed before I had this problem installing Rugby 08. So maybe this is the culprit.

That's not gonna be your issue. There aren't any online components...and that installer for Madden 08 isn't a flash installer anyway. The registration box is flash...THAT is probably where the issue is gonna be. Every EA game has the same blue registration box. It pops up right after you click on install from the autorun screen.

Other than that, you're other issue could be spyware taking your drive over...but that's highly unlikely.

This is a longshot, but when i was trying to install Obvlivion on my PC recently it would always get an error trying to find files on the DVD. It turned out that Roxio Easy DVD Creator somehow prevents the game from installing. So i uninstalled Roxio and everything worked fine. Do you have Roxio or any other programs that might be messing with your DVD drive?

Not sure if this has been posted anywhere else, but figure the Rugby group will see it here:

I'm pretty sure Versus will be showing World Cup games as well.

Oh, man, I'll be in heaven if I don't have to use the aussietorrents.com route for Rugby World Cup matches next month.

I love torrents, but it's a touch easier to just hit the red button on the DVR remote to record matches on Versus or ESPN Classic. I'll still probably need torrents for some Ireland matches (my team), but man, it will be groovy as f*ck if some of these games are on U.S. cable TV.

For those curious about Rugby 08 or having trouble learning the game, I recommend watching a match or two on your TV or PC and completing the in-game tutorial. Boltman gave me that advice when I struggled with Rugby 06, and it was a real Eureka! moment. Really helped.

Take care,
PK

Versus and Setanta are splitting the coverage rights.

Cool! RWC action on U.S. cable TV!

The Versus schedule, seven matches:

http://www.versus.com/nw/article/view/4 ... e&catID=76

I'll have the DVR set for France-Argie, USA-England (everyone loves a bloodbath), England-South Africa, France-Ireland and Scotland-New Zealand.

Sadly, only one match with the All Blacks and Ireland, and no matches with the Wallabies. But it's better than nothing!

Great heads up, pk. I had no idea the RWC would be on standard cable. NZ really, really need to win it this time for the sake of the country's sanity, but I'm sure the All Blacks will stumble at some point.

Do you have access to another computer to see if you can install it there? That way you can eliminate a bad disc, just a thought. Have you checked to see if you any spyware or viruses on your computer?
