What's interesting is that the charges were for transporting dogs across state lines that were being used in dogfighting. He is charged with 2 felony's. Wonder if the NFL commish will take any action?
Not good news for the Falsons or Atlanta or the NFL in general

I think this is great news. It has nothing to do with the NFL either. Just another scumbag athlete who thinks the rules of society don't apply to him.JackB1 wrote:http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2940065

I knew when this story first broke months ago that he was dirty so I am tickled to death that they popped him.
But the sad thing is we all know they won't do anything to him. He's got lawyers out in front of him and he'll just go about business as usual.
Thats what I thought, but Chris Mortensen said it probably will not be the case. The suspension that applied to Pac Man Jones was due to the fact that he was a repeat offender. Because this is the first time for Vick, the NFL will wait for the result of the trial, which will be at least a year away. Now the Atlanta owner mght decide something on his own. No way I think he should play, but it will be interesting to see what happens.greggsand wrote:Unless the charges get dropped, there's no way he's taking a snap this year. It would be PR-suicide for ATL & the NFL.

True, but ATL could go all "tank johnson" & police it themselves. Regardless, this will be the first true test for Goodell as far as PR vs. Innocent Until Proven Guilty...icvu42 wrote:Thats what I thought, but Chris Mortensen said it probably will not be the case. Just waiting for some good old fashioned 'leaked' evidence to hit youtube.com
Oh, and most importantly, he just dropped to the 18th+ round in my fantasy league.

The Falcons would take too big a hit on the salary cap to go the Tank Johnson route.
I don't know that I would call Vick a first time offender. Maybe from a legal point of view, but from a PR standpoint, there was the "Ron Mexico" incident, the internet picture of Mike with the spliff, the shooting the bird at the fans incident and the secret compartment in the water bottle incident.
But other than those things, he has been a model citizen.
Maybe Marcus needs to sit him down and have a brother to brother talk with him.

What the NFL's policy for gambling? Vick has that to deal with that as well.
Right?
This is coming from a non dog person. IMO, if he did what they charged him with,I hope he gets the 'Meat wand of Bubba" up his arse multiple times a a day in whatever pen he lands in. The sick fucks that think dog fighting is cool have no heart. They deserve to get what they gave. f***in scum.
I doubt that he will see any jail time, but I don't think he'll play this year.

Make him sit out this season and work as the animal control officer for his county in Virginia. He already has a head start ...
As Jack-diggity suggested, does anyone actually think this dick will do time? Get real. He'll buy his way to a reduced plea and probation through an expensive legal team.
Take care,
PK

I am guessing he'll get probation, but I imagine some sort of suspension is pretty likely no matter what. This is a bit of a different case than ones like Tank Johnson or Pac Man Jones -- you have an athlete running a pretty big criminal enterprise on his property, and one that involves animal cruelty to boot.
Even if the NFL doesn't suspend him, I can't imagine the Falcons will take the PR hit by letting him play. And besides that, they won't lose much -- there are lots of guys who can one-hop passes to the flat.

Sounds like what they do to the dogs in dog racing if they are too slow. I hope the Vick incident brings some attention to the greyhounds in dog racing.....sportdan30 wrote:I just can't get over the brutality of how they destroyed these dogs if they didn't peform how they should. If true, he deserves what's coming to him.

Next time Vick might want to name his kennels something a little less conspicuous than "BAD NEWZ KENNELS"
BTW, I just read that 95% of these Federal Indictments turn out guilty in the end, so they don't mess around.
If he is guilty (and there is no conflicting evidence pointed in any other direction, so far) I hope he gets the maximum penalty allowed by law.
The penalties for animal cruelty in general are way too lenient to begin with. This goes beyond "watching a couple of dogs mauling each other". What type of person takes the losing dog and slams it to the ground (read the indictment) until it is dead? This is a cruel, barbaric, repulsive person with no morals or remorse. Someone capable of this is capable of many things on that same level.

you can read the grizzly details in the full indictment papers:sportdan30 wrote:Bbunn,
They electrocute and slam dogs on the ground? That's dispicable!
By the way, I'm guessing there are going to be plenty of Clifford costumes this season at Falcon games.

Agreed. There is NO justification or explanation for such despicable and deplorable actions. I am DISGUSTED that Vick would have any part of such activities.sportdan30 wrote:I just can't get over the brutality of how they destroyed these dogs if they didn't peform how they should. I agree and will take it a bit further. I am DISGUSTED by anyone involved with this s***. It says an awful lot about some in our society.DivotMaker wrote:Agreed. I HATE dogs, but I agree with Jack, Jackdiggity and Divot: There is no place whatsoever for this brutality toward animals.
It's pretty pathetic that the race card is being played by some on forums/feedback that I've read today about this story, including ESPN.com. Yeah, the Feds are going after Ron Mexico only because he's black.
Give me a f*cking break.
Take care,
PK

I agree with those who say he should be prosecuted to the fullest if these barbaric allegations are true.
