Microsoft E3 Conference

Post by Danimal »

Watched the horrible coverage by G4TV. Really a tame conference, focus was on games coming out this year with one exception. Highlights

- Resident Evil 5 to the 360 (not sure anyone saw this coming)
- Halo 360 Model. No idea if its an Elite or what.
- No price cut announced
- Game play of Assasin's Creed which just looked sick
- Game Play of COD4 look good as well
- Disney to the Marketplace, all Disney movies available in HD starting tonight
- GOW to the PC
- Mass Effect in Novemeber :(
- Golden Axe and Sonic on Arcade tonight
- Everything shown was game footage

I seriously don't know how anyone will have time to play all the games coming in Oct - Nov time frame. They specifically said this and I would have to agree this may be the strongest fall lineup every for a console.

The 360 is a Premium 360, with a 20 gig HDD. No clue on HDMI though, doubting it though.

Maybe it's just me but I don't like the looks of the Halo 360 although I can see it fetching some ridiculous prices on ebay especially if there's a limited run on those things.

RE5 I believe was announced last year as a multiplatform game both for the PS3 and 360.

Any news on the MGS coming to the 360? That seemed to be hot rumor for some time.

It's happening only a matter of time. The best information came out yesterday from Konami at E3.

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6173911.ht ... p;title;11

E3 07: Konami mulling multiplatform MGS4
Japanese publisher doesn't expect a "substantial impact" from $100 PS3 discount, says game's exclusivity is in question.

SANTA MONICA, Calif.--Earlier this week, Sony dropped the price on its PlayStation 3 60GB model from $599 to $499. Analysts responded favorably to the announcement, saying it would put pressure on Microsoft to drop the price of its Xbox 360 system, the priciest configuration of which currently costs $479. But while analysts might think the cut is enough to make the PS3 cost-competitive, one of Sony's biggest publishing partners appears underwhelmed.

Speaking with Reuters, Konami North American and European operations head Kazumi Kitaue expressed doubt. "I wonder if Sony can win back user support by the price cut of just $100," Kitaue said, adding, "I don't expect a substantial impact...With $500, you can buy a personal computer."

Kitaue no doubt would like a cheaper PS3 in order to spike sales of the machine and have a larger installed user base in place for Konami's highly anticipated PS3 exclusive Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. However, the executive said Konami might have to bring the series to non-Sony systems in order to make its development money back.

"Since Metal Gear Solid was born for the PlayStation, we would like to keep it a PlayStation game," Kitaue said. "But we might have to take some steps."

I watched the press conference and it was so-so. The Halo 3 trailer was good...not a great but good. I'm not into games like Assassins Creed but that game looked damn nice. The footage that really wowed me was COD4. Damn. It was like GRAW with GOW graphics. It is quickly moving up my list of must haves. Infinity Ward announce an online beta at the end of their COD4 presentation also. I'll be watching Sony's conference later on today (2:30 EST).

I was going to do a Ninetendo thread but after 45 minutes of watching I realized they pretty much didn't give me anything to say.

I thought the MS conference was bad having had a nights sleep to reflect on it, but hell after the Nintendo one MS must feel pretty good. Hell unless Sony comes out and say "fooled you we are raising the price of the PS3" there is no way they can't have the best PC of the show.

I'm more convinced then ever that the people most caught by surprise with the Wi's sales success is Nintendo themselves. They don't have a clue or a plan where to go from here.

In summary ugh that was horrible

Why was it bad?

What were you expecting?

I personally think the WiiFit will be HUGE and as a physical educator I am salivating over having it in our fitness room at school.

I am looking forward to all the applications the WiiFit board will bring.

Calculating BMI continously while playing...brilliant!

Super Mario Galxies, Mario Kart, Super Smash Brothers...all great.

Next summer they will ahve Mario Golf and Wii Sports 2 ready to go.

Bravo Nintendo!

The Wii is good if you are not into playing games. Wii Fit might be great but it is not a "game". It might give you a nice cardio though.

But if I want to exercise, I go outside or to a gym. But that's just me.

Mario Galaxy might be good, I have hopes for that.

The old Mac Classic 'Marathon' from Bungie is hitting XBLA? That'll be a nice stroll down memory lane.... Sweet.

I hate to post 'back2back', but I'm just catching up on all this E3 stuff. That COD4 trailer/demo looks amazing. Is the whole game black&white? Something very eerie about that. Looks like R6 meets Blair Witch Project.

The COD4 demo at the conference was plain sick. I love the direction they are going with the game. I hope MP is good.

I admit i wasn't interested in this game at all but after this gameplay footage it looks somewhat intriguing. The fact that it will also be available on the PC is a major plus. I couldn't get into COD3 at all and yet another modern combat game didn't sound interesting to me either, but this might be worth a look.

Peter Moore to EA Sports. Guess he already had that job locked up before his "performance" at E3.

Sounds like a good thing for us. He seems to have vision unlike the douchebags that have been running EA sports ...

Agreed. Already seeing a major shift with the efforts to support Tiger with the move to Tiburon and the fact that Tiburon has made a committment to communicate with and listen to the TW user feedback in determining features and gameplay improvements beginning with TW09. Like many of you, I will believe it when I actually see it happening with new releases, but it is refreshing to see someone at EA give a sh1t about the Tiger franchise.....

Interesting that Moore is moving to the software company that many believe doomed the Dreamcast flagship product of Moore's pre-Microsoft employer, Sega.

Remember, EA Sports refused to support the DC, which many believe led to its untimely and much-too-early demise.

Funny how the business world turns. Never burn bridges!

Take care,
PK

The gaming industry is relatively small in terms of the number of people who work in it, so it's not surprising that many of it's top folks have worked for competitors or other companies.

The move to EA Sports is a no-brainer in that situation. Stay with a company with serious QA issues in the very difficult hardware market, or go to the biggest sports publisher where they practically mint money every football season? I would say Mr. Moore's a smart guy :D

I don't think it is ANY stretch to say that EA does not have its own serious QA issues with a number of its Sports games.....

Does that mean J. Allard is going to have a more higher profile again? :P

Actually, a lot of the Xbox team had supposedly moved on to work on the Zune.

Bach is in charge of it all but he doesn't seem to be as hands-on for the Xbox business as he used to be, when they had the first couple of E3s with the X360.

True, but now he moves into a market that cares less about such things.

Can't say I agree at all. The respective markets for ALL of EA Sports' franchises have QA issues that EA seems to never address either before a game is shipped or after. There are GLARING issues with the Tiger series as well as others that should NEVER make it into a retail copy of a game. EA Sports has in the past insulated itself pretty well ignoring such issues, but I do believe they are "starting" to wake up and smell the coffee to some extent if their plans for supporting Tiger are any indication....
