Let's see. The box is kind of Orange with a green edge around it. I'm not sure if I would have chosen this color scheme. The box art appears to be your typical standard fare for this type of game. One orange car, a couple red ones on the back, two white ones and a yellow one.

The manual appears to have a few tidbits that will help, but pretty much a basic short manual.

And the disc appears to be as shiny, maybe shinier. I sure do look good in it though.

I guess I'll have to actually go home and play it. ;)

Damn...ORANGE?! Well, that's a dealbreaker for me. And holy cow, only six cars on the cover? What the heck were they thinking?!?

I hate the way game companies think that they can just put a few cars and a friggin' orange paintscheme on the box and expect us to buy it. I just won't be able to play it now...dammit...

The thread isn't in all caps with a moderator deleting 50% of this thread, so it can't be that official.

But DB has taken his shot at the format of post, so it's now 100% DSP official. I'll throw in a type to make it certified.

Not yet...but by the time some meaningful impressions actually make their way into the thread, it is about as OS as it gets.

Can someone with the game check to see if you can host a online race with "default" setups or not? This seems to be an important sticking point to some here.

We seriously need an unwritten rule that impression threads can only be started by someone with impressions. I am surprised that there are no Forza impressions here yet though. What gives guys? I am Gameflying this one so hopefully it gets here over the weekend.

I resisted the "well, it's at home but I'm at work" post earlier so impressions could be posted, but what the f*ck.

I get off in 45 minutes and I'll try out the full with the wireless wheel and get back later in the evening. I was hoping that there'd at least be SOME impressions (to which I've just added another useless post...it's a vicious cycle)...

Here are my impressions...REALLY.

Started the career mode and bought a 2007 Peugeot. In three races, I have already "turbo'd" the car.

I miss a really good hood cam and an in-car cam. It's terrible that Forza, the premeir racing title doesn't have this. Score 1 for DIRT.

I think the sense of speed is not what I want it to be. Like I've asked before, I don't know if this is realistic but it's a tad slower in feel.

The courses are the standard fare. I haven't raced on the well known courses yet but to me they've pull and EA Sports. Put a lot of real courses along with some fake ones that are so-so. I would have preferred more real courses like in TOCA minus the dirt courses.

However, like all of you know this game is about the cars and not the courses. My Peugeot is just OK and there's some modifications that will add HP. Right now I'm looking at buying a Dodge Charger (just because I think those are cool IRL).

There's a ranking system that seems deep. Almost feels like you are leveling up a FPS character or something.

In the looks department, I don't know. It's not going to blow you away. I think DIRT was better looking but it's not bad. I think the videos I've seen from F1 and GT-HD are better looking than Forza.

Oh and I'm using a controller and doing the DSP thing, all standard cars no tuning just upgrades.

Brief impressions on biref playtime: all is well. Seems solid enough to me, lots of fun driving my crappy class D Pugeot. Leveled up to level 5 in about 4 short races, bought some weight reduction and upgrades to get the thing into the 380-zone (over 400 and you hit C class, so engine upgrades were out of the question) and took it online for some career racing amongst the randoms. You can peruse the various restirctions and game settings of each room in the search list, such as damage level, end of race timer, vehicle restrictions, etc. I joined a room with a 1 minute end timer, and he was doing 5 to 8 lap races (about 10 minutes a race). Every race was fun as hell. I had some great racing in the middle of the pack on that ridiculous Tsukuba motorcycle track, and even though I got f*ed up early on in a few races by some real stooges, I had fun trying to hold my own with a lesser car (most had that 400 perfomance index, so i think I had less power than anyone) and usually finished up in 2nd or 3rd. The argy bargy is definitely more forgiving than I remember, but if there is an idiot who isn't paying attention and slams right into you, there's not much you can do. Even so, it was a really positive online random experience. I think everyone in the room had a different car.

It looked like one can choose from a larger group of non-garage cars even in career races, but of course those will be un-upgraded and un-tuned (I haven't touched any tuning on my Pugeot yet). Jack, it does look like there may be some kind of upgrade- or tuning- off option, and there are definitly tons of vhicle restrictions you can turn on, so I'm sure you can do stock, non-garage cars if you want.

I've already eraned two or three classic, 60s and 70s cars as gifts as I've dinged up into level 7 or 8 through an hour or so of online racing. With the end timer set to 2 or 3 minutes, everyone in the race should earn some credits, and online races seem to be much more lucrative than most of the offline offerings. Except at the 'ring, of course, where you want that timer set a bit higher. We ran one at the 'ring at the end of the session, and though i am not in a position to judge its accuracy, I really loved it. The backgrounds in the distance are crazy cool, and the populace along the road side is really wild, all in 3-D with their cars and RVs and tents and so on.

Framerate is butter smooth, no cockpit view is a real drag, the damage model is really fascinating, the decal stuff is crazy, and even though only having 8 cars per race is unbelieveably lame, I'm really looking forward to plenty of DSP racing all up and down the classes as we collect some cars. And of course, ending every night with a lap at the 'ring!

I will say that the first few offline races left me feeling very 'blah,' but once I got online, the thing really started to grab hold of me.

Just raced a few races with Terry so I can add a bit to what's been said already.

Jack, yes you can definitely limit the cars to stock settings ... even the cars from your garage. I brought in my car from career mode and Terry set all of the settings to stock and it's rating dropped back to what it was before I upgraded the tires and exhaust.

The sense of speed seems fine once you get into the faster cars. We raced the R1 class cars and the sense of speed was insane. And even racing mid class cars on The Ring really felt like we were flying down the track.

Unfortunately it looks like racers who are a lap down are forced to race until the timer runs out just like the original Forza. This will cause problems with the longer races again.

That's about all I have right now. Looking forward to playing with a full room tonight.

Both F1 and GT-HD are indeed better looking. I think Forza is a very average looking game.

I played tonight for about an hour. It's very hard to start with these slow cars after feeling the adrenaline rush of F1 cars for a few days, but I had fun with it. I'm sure I'll appreciate the variety in Forza and difference between cars some day but from a gameplay standpoint F1 is much more up my alley. It's much more fun racing 22 cars than 8 :?

Nice impressions Zep! I always look at you as the "voice of reason" here, so the fact that you are having fun with it so far means that I will most likely also.

Terry......couldn't get the game tonite. I have a $40 coupon for Best Buy and they said not till tommorow, so I will have to miss out on online racing tonite....but Thurs nite for sure.

I wish we had an F1, DIRT, Indy, or Nascar game for the 360 that was that much fun online.
