MATCH SETTINGS
---------------------
1. Ensure both players are on each other's Xbox Live friends list and that both are logged on and listed as "available;"
2. The home side (as designated on the schedule) selects "Player Match Menu" from the main WEPES Xbox Live screen.
3. He then chooses "Create match" with the following settings:
Match time: 15 minute halves
Team type: National teams (or leave at "any" - I think we can figure it out)
Play against friends?: yes
4. Once the visiting side has accepted the game invite, the home side will continue with the settings as follows (IMPORTANT - many of these are not the defaults, and you only have limited time to make the selections, so be ready and be careful):
Stadium: home side selects
Season: Winter
Weather: Random
Extra Time: No (for group stage); Silver Goal (for knockout stage)
Penalty Shootout: No (for group stage); yes (for knockout stage)
Game Pauses: 9
Pause Length: Long
Injuries: On
Both sides confirm the settings and hit "ready" once you are set to proceed to the match.
Once the match is over both sides need to record all statistics and final score.
OTHER RULES (CONDENSED)
--------
(detailed rules available on website):
- Matches in group stage can be played in any order
- Cards carry forward and reset at beginning of knockout stage. Players banned from their next matches are listed on the tournament web site. As matches can be played in any order, these bans are active for the next match played, regardless of scheduling order. DO NOT FORGET TO CHECK THE LIST!
- Injuries DO NOT carry forward (necessary evil since there is no post-match player statistics screen)
- One match per week minimum, Monday-Sunday
- Sunday at 9:00 PM EST is "game night" - if you have problems finding an opponent it is suggested anyone available be online then to arrange matches
- The top two teams in each group advance to the knockout stage as do the remaining two with the best records.
- Players need to report 1) score; 2) goal scorers; 3) assists; 4) player bookings

The basic tournament site is now online at http://laack.net/wepes/.
I wanted to. I really did. But I didn't think I could get past the unlicensed players. It might be worth checking if edited names show up online. If so I know I'll be fixing the US and Croatia on my version.Jared wrote:Well, if no one is gonna pick the US of A, I will.

Anyway, way to go all for having the restraint to not pick Brazil so far. It's shaping up to be a great tournament and should be a breath of fresh air after the usual random online experience.
Any preference for whether we continue adding sides until the Monday deadline or should we just close it down when we hit 8 and start early?

I'll play as the greasy Italians if it's not too much of an advantage. That's honestly the only team outside of USA and England that I'd be interested in but if people are opposed I guess I'll play as any middle-of-the-road team of the groups consensus.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

Well, as long as it's the "greasy" ItaliansScoopBrady wrote:I'll play as the greasy Italians if it's not too much of an advantage. I'm tempted to close it down after one more and just go with a two-group, eight team tournament at least as a start. Any preferences?
OK, I'm in with the Irish. I trust people will still be able to complete their league games even with this tourney going on. I hope to go through the random team selection this week, and get the league started next Monday.
From what I see in this tourney so far, the big favorites have to be Naple's Czechs, although I've never played Macca and virtual Spain is a strong side that shouldn't choke the way real Spain does. Scoop, even with Italy you have no hope!

Okay, with Zepp in I think I'm going to go ahead and close down the signup to give us two groups of four. That keeps things managable and short and I don't think there are many others here with the game anyway.
If someone REALLY wants in, post here as soon as possible if you can, and better yet corral three other people to form another group. If we have three groups then I suppose we could do the top two in each group plus the two with the next best records.
In any event, I'm going to schedule the draw for 5:00 PM ET today so that we can start play tonight, if anyone is interested.

Okay, I'm the decider:
If we get four more entries by 5:00 ET today we'll add a third group. Otherwise we'll go with two (maybe rename it the "DSP Micro Cup" or something), and encourage anyone who can make it to show up online tonight at 11:00 PM ET for the first "game night." Obviously I'd rather have as close to 32 teams as possible, but that probably just isn't realistic without opening it up to entries outside DSP, and with that comes inevitable problems. If we go with 8 or 12 we may at least finish the thing before or shortly after Zepp's league gets started.
The draw will be held at 5:00 PM ET today. So far we know that Scoop's Italy will be one top seed. If we go with eight then Leebo's Dutch would be the second. The rest will be drawn at random at 5:00.
Good luck!

LOL Actually, since I signed up with Spain I thought I'd play with them more frequently online....I've yet to win a game in 5 tries. I guess that's the excellence of Konami soccer, even the virtual Spanish team is good on paper and crap on the field.Zeppo wrote:From what I see in this tourney so far, the big favorites have to be Naple's Czechs, although I've never played Macca and virtual Spain is a strong side that shouldn't choke the way real Spain does.

Leebo,
That's a very generous gesture, but I'd say stick with it. A couple of things - the 11:00 ET "game night" thing is purely optional for folks having a hard time otherwise getting matches together. Also, I picked that time pretty much out of the blue to try and accomodate people on the West Coast, but I'm sure we could push it forward an hour or two if folks prefer.
I'd also hate to lose the Dutch as their style of play rounds things out nicely. Hopefully we can get a few more and still squeeze in the Swedes.
