Hey, that's Indy in the Toyota head-on pic! I can see the Pagoda in the background.

Cool.

A wheel will be a must for this, and any, driving game on the PS3. A racing game without rumble feedback from the controller is a joke, especially for a next-gen system.

Take care,
PK

I agree rumble and FF is a must for this type of game. I'll still buy it but it makes the purpose of using a wheel a joke. I guess i'll just use the contoller instead.

There's no force feedback for wheels with the PS3, either? Are you kidding?

I hope this is a confused rep speaking, because force feedback and rumble are two different things, right? Or maybe force feedback just uses the console's rumble feed and translates it to force feedback. But here's the quote from 1up.com
Sony Computer Entertainment America confirmed that there would be no supported force feedback technology with its PlayStation 3. They told 1UP the following:

All PS3 games are programmed for the SIXAXIS which doesn't have force feedback, therefore the force feedback in the wheels won't be recognized.
http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3156211

If this is true, then you can already chalk up this gen's racing dominance to the 360 unless you're a devoted Gran Turismo fan.

It doesn't surprise me. Sony seems to be run by a bunch of goof balls. How in the hell do you drop not only Rumble but FF support which is a necessity for any serious racing game. 8O

I'm not sure if this is what you mean, but it appears PS3 wheels won't have vibration either;

I mean anything. No vibration for controllers in racing games? No vibration or force feedback for wheels?

Welcome to 1997 for console racing games, PS3 owners. What a f*cking joke.

Take care,

This along with MLB07 and a new Gallop Racer are making me think very hard about getting at least the 500 dollar PS3. I miss F1 games :(

Wow. I just can't comprehend that; no FF for PS3 EVER? Stunning. Sony debuted true FF on consoles with their PS2. Talk about removing features in the next-gen from the old-gen and charging more for it!

Stunning. This and the no 720p support problem are both just . . . stunning.

You've always been a paragon of class, sincerely.

I'll step into my usual spot into the DSP gutter. It's more than stunning: It's fecking bullsh*t!

With all the money they have made on gamers, they at least could have paid whatever royalties to use rumble (ala Microsoft)

Also, I may be wrong but I think they have support for 720p just not 1080i. The reason that was such a big deal is that many of the initial hdtv owners (me) have tv's that only do 480p and 1080i thus meaning the PS3 only plays downscaled in 480p which so Xbox last Gen 8O

I don't want to come off bitching either, its just that is a total deal breaker for me especially the 1080i part. I'll admit I am thinking about a new tv but not for a ps3. It will be to go bigger and better and to get another xbox with hddvd player.

The chips are stacking up against them imo and to play without rumble I can't even imagine.

PS3 will support 720p and 1080i but will not scale one to the other. It will only pass any content in that content's native resolution. Almost all PS3 games are/ will be 720p; very few will ever be 1080i or 1080p, though there will surely be a few. That means that those who have TVs that do not accept a 720p signal like your TV will see the majority of PS3 games (those that are 720p) in 480p, instead of 1080i. They will only see games that are natively 1080i in HD. Same with BD movies; if you're display only accepts 720p and not 1080i (pretty rare, I'd assume), you will see BD movies in 480p.

Now, my TV will accept a 720p input, but to my eye it does a much worse job than it does with a 1080i signal. My version of the display is the first released with 720p support. It may actually even look worse than 480p on my display to be honest. So I'm almost in the same boat as you are. I have my cable box and my 360 set up to scale any 720p signal into 1080i, and they both do a better job than my TV does with a 720p signal. So, with PS3, I would be a bit screwed just as you are; even though my display officially supports a 720p signal, I'd probably prefer it to be sent 480p if it can't be sent 1080i, but I won't have a choice.

The 360, on the other hand, has a scaler in the machine, so it will output whatever you tell it to output, and scale all output (except DVD movies) in that format, be it 480i/p, 720p or 1080i. I have it set to 1080i, and everything it does is sent in 1080i, even though I don't think I've played any game that is native 1080i; they're all 720p.

good post Zep. Like I said, I am hoping to pick up a 1080p DLP soon but that will do nothing for me wanting or not wanting a PS3. I want another 360 and should have that soon I hope also. R6 Vegas is killing me. It looks awesome!

Wow, no FF for PS3? I don't get it. In the last month I have picked up WOO, WRC Rally, and TOCA 2 for PS2 all on the cheap. All 3 have great FF support for the Logitech wheels. I already have GT4 and it's the best use of FF for a wheel in any console title I have played.

If you don't already have it, give yourself a treat and pick up NASCAR Heat for the PS2. Now THAT is the best use of FF for a wheel. GT4 is good, but Heat is incredible. Damage is incorporated and you can damage the suspension on one side and you have to fight the car the entire race.
