Yeah, this made my day, too.

With Grey Dog updating Bowl Bound and Jim releasing a new FoF...good times.

How'd you like that new feature list?

Actually, I'm amazed at all Jim has added to this game. Talk about stat heaven! I love this feature:
Solevision. Designed to bring you an entire week of Front Office Football action to one screen, Solevision provides you up to 16 exciting channels at once. You choose a channel and watch a game's play-by-play unfold, line by line. Solevision tracks the leaders in several statistical categories, tells you about scoring plays elsewhere in the league and gives you access to every game log and box score while the games are in progress. It's a new way to sit back and let the game come to you.
The player cards are also much bigger with a TON of information. It's a pro football lovers dream come true. I just hope some of the roster management AI and drafting AI has been improved, which Jim has said he worked on a bunch.

Of course. :D This is one developer I purchase his products without thinking twice.

Game is AMAZING over an already great version in FOF 2004. If you love football and like a simple, yet easy to navigate interface - oh, and stats, stats, and more stats. You owe it to yourself to at least try the demo.

Yes it has 0 graphics except for a 268x164 logo for each team and seems simplistic on the surface. I can assure you however, the game engine is quite deep.

I started with FOF2 and I still play the heck out of TCY. I love Jim's games.

Downloaded this over the weekend. Didn't have much time to play it, but I really like it. I think the last one I had was FOF 2001, which I played to death.

It's going to take me a while to explore all the features. The depth is incredible.

I highly recommend downloading the demo if people haven't tried it.

Liked the demo, so I picked this up last night. What downloads are essential, if any? May as well get this right now, rather than starting and wishing I'd done it months before LOL

My NFL logos of course.

If you can't log into FOFC - send me an email and I'll send them to you - but if you have a username account at FOFC (front office football central) the very top link has all sorts of things like a real player 2007 draft file, some screen enhancements, etc...

I got off to a rousing 0-4 start with the Bears last night. I'm playing on Wall Street level and I'm especially struggling on defense. I kept all the gameplanning stuff at the default, but when I let the coach call the plays, I was getting killed. Against Seattle, I switched over and called plays on offense all game and defense at the end after blowing a 17-3 lead. However, even when I was doubling Bobby Engram, he hauled in two long passes in a row to set up a game-winning field goal. That seemed a little screwy.

Any tips from FOF veterans? Do you call plays or just sim through and focus on GM stuff. How about gameplan tweaking?

Solevision really adds a needed element of suspense to each week's games, particularly during the final few Sundays.

I still think the interface, as a whole, is kinda crappy but this is a much improved game.

In FOF 2004 and previous versions, I always let the AI handle everything except some depth chart tweaks and the GM stuff of course.

I haven't really played the new version yet, because I like to wait on Jim's first patch as typically he has a very small beta test group and will amass many fixes with the first patch - he's a little different than most one man programmers.

I always watch all my games though to get a feel for my team and what might need changed.

I STRONGLY suggest registering over there as that site has all kinds of FOF junkies. ;)

I can't figure out what is up with the Bears in this game. I decided to restart a season and had almost the same results as before. The game has Grossman rated pretty low, which isn't surprising, but what is killing me is my defense. I have given up 31 points each against Green Bay and Detroit. That just seems completely unrealistic. I even forced five fumbles against the Lions but recovered only one.

I did make some tweaks to the gameplan, but nothing too crazy, just adjusting it to throw a little more to be more reflective of the actual Bears offense. I also switched a few D tendencies, mostly to have Lanc e Briggs blitz more than Hunter Hillenmeyer. I just can't believe that in six games, last year's #1 defense can't seem to stop anyone. I have been letting the AI call the plays for the most part.

I did register over at FOF Central and have been reading the board for some guidance.

Brando,

I think part of the problem is that you're expecting the current teams and players to perform really close to their real life abilities. FOF has always been focused on longer term careers, where the real players are mostly going to be retired after 10-15 seasons anyway. The real players are included as a starting point for those that want them, but the game isn't really intended to simulate the actual 2006 NFL season, and it's been common in every version of the game to see some unusual results for both players and teams.

You can make things a little closer to reality by turning off the X factor option before starting a new game.

Yep, turn off X-factor and you might want to try the real player roster file from Yabanci - located in the top stickied thread as it seems to be much more realistic from past experience.

I've read some dynasties and I do see that Chicago doesn't do so well in most of them for the current year.

Thanks, guys, I did have that turned on. I don't mind the losing, it just seems that the player ratings for the Bears D should make them play better.

Maybe I'll just pick a crappy team to begin with :D I ran a 40-year Cleveland dynasty the last time I played FOF (2000, I think).

I can never figure out Jim's habits, but I would think he'll have a patch out maybe this weekend... although I could be wayyy off base. :)

X-factor will make a HUGE difference though in player ratings.

Cool. I held off on 6.0a because of the confusion, but this seems to align the good stuff Jim mentioned with an interface that makes sense.

I'm really enjoying the game. I'm in year 2 of my Bears franchise and having a good time handling all the GM stuff while more or less letting the AI coach (with the exception of depth charts and some minor gameplan tweaking).

Yes indeed! Having the player's experience now on the player's card is so nice. I can finally start a serious career tonight when I get home.

Yipeeee!!!

I wasn't going to start with the Rams because I thought they were going to be good this year, lol - might have to now. ;)
