FIFA 07 (360) Thread
Well with all the new info about the NExt Gen version coming out it was about time to start a thread. Being a Fifa player it should be intersting seeing the changes they have made with the game.
Im a little mad about no Interactive Leagues but still with 4 v. 4 online and new game physics I am really pumped about it.

I'm thinking that is exactly what we are going to get. 4 humans per box. Not a Rivals style "lobby" system.stevieg987 wrote:Just hoping that 4v.4 is with people on your friends list not with people on your own 360 or else it would be alot less people playing that.
Also - What gives with no interactive leagues on the 360? WTF? not enough people have the 360 so they decided not to do it? Damn. Why is it so freaking hard to find a developer that does not seem to have it's head in it's ass now days? Support the next gen you morons! Everything was sounding real good until I read that nugget of information.
100,000 man hours and once again the latest and greatest technology gets the smaller feature set. FIND A WAY TO MAKE IT WORK...
Geesh... when did getting a good sports game become so damn hard to accomplish.
Thank goodness we have Winning Eleven.

Difficult to tell watching the movie, while the producer is making his presentation, but the dribbling still looks slightly elastic - although the main demonstration of dribbling is Ronaldinho who in real life dribbles like he has the ball on an elastic band.
Had to laugh though when the producer comments on how in the current generation Fifa the ball is not independent of the player. I don't recall them admitting to that last year! On the movies for the Non xbox fifa 07 the elastic effect is very pronounced. Playing in a real life league this summer I only wish that dribbling was that easy!
Best wishes,
Doug

Although the game looks pretty and all, looks like there's still some AI issues.

I don't know if anyone else tried it in the demo but I played the demo again last night and noticed a pass assist slider. I set it all the way down to zero and the passing opened up more. Passes were no longer on a string and you could pass into space more.

Yes, that's a must. With the pass assist slider turned all the way down, there is more freedom passing the ball than in WE (gasp!).ScoopBrady wrote:I don't know if anyone else tried it in the demo but I played the demo again last night and noticed a pass assist slider. I'm not sure I quite understand what IGN mean when they say that the game is both more open and less flowing. That seems a little contradictory to me.
Anyway, I had a quick go of the full version in my local branch of GAME (one match head to head with a mate, so I learned next to nothing about the AI) and I did enjoy myself. Annoyingly, my Arsenal lost 2-1 to his Tottenham despite Spurs being down to ten men, though since it was Jermaine Jenas I don't suppose his leaving the field would make all that much difference. We got horribly bogged down in a midfield battle (largely because I didn't get to grips with the increased feeling of weight and ended up spending half the match chasing after the man I was attempting to control) and so I couldn't honestly describe much of our display as 'football', but we both had a fine old time.
We didn't have the time to fiddle about with sliders and settings and whatnot, but the settings we used - I'm assuming they were defaults, but I wouldn't know - seemed to make for a pretty good game of football. The through balls still seemed a little off, which could turn out to be quite the annoying current-gen carryover, but that was the only problem our 8 minutes turned up.
Bloody annoying really, since I'm already purchasing Singstar Legends, Pro Evo 6 and NBA 2K7 this Friday so a new, improved FIFA is just a damned inconvenience.

The game plays well on default, but you really need to go into the settings and turn off the passing assist. (I also change up the controls to mirror WE.) With the assist off, the ball literally goes where you send it, rather than towards the nearest man. Once you get the hang of it, you really get a lot of freedom in passing into space.

10s, I'm afraid I have no idea what we were using since I didn't check. I'm assuming it was default, and assuming that'd be semi-pro, but I don't actually know. Hopefully I'll tell you on Friday when the game comes out, but my mate has hit upon the idea of sharing 360 games to save us (read: him) money - we've already got Pro Evo since the retailers broke the street date on it but he's kindly kept it for himself (and I'll have to buy my own anyway because I keep Pro Evo until the next edition is released), so he'll probably try to take FIFA off me in exchange for that. We'll see, but I'll be able to tell you more about one of those come the weekend.
Edit: One thing I did want to check - is crossing noticeably improved from current-gen? I only got into position to cross the ball once, and though it was ripe for heading, Henry pulled away from the defender and attempted a volley while the centre back was left with a free clearing header. I didn't think anything of it but some of the impressions elsewhere suggest it might be a recurring thing - anyone had a problem with it?

I have only played the demo, but crossing is one area where there could be a problem. It's definitely much harder to successfully pull off a cross than in FIFA:WC, especially without the passing assist on. It seems like there will be more scraps in front of the ball where someone chests it down and then knocks it in than true headers.

I've been waiting for the first major reviewer to have the balls to suggest that the new FIFA might be better than WE. Eurogamer walks right up to the line, but can't quite manage to pull the trigger.
