Sports you´d like to see gain more attention

Post by pk500 »

Hi all:

Everyone knows the U.S. sports landscape is littered with tons of options. But thoughts of the lack of attention that Tim Montgomery earned in the U.S. for the new 100-meter world record last weekend got me thinking, "Which sports deserve more coverage in the U.S.?"

Here´s my top three:

1. Soccer
2. Track and field
3. College lacrosse

What do you think?

Take care,
PK

If they could make a track and field game that involved more than high speed button mashing, it might get my interest.

And I agree with what Jared said - Australian Rules Football. Great to watch and great to play.

Oh, what about the darling of the winter olympics??? Curling anyone ???

My top three:

1. Soccer: World Cup year or no, The U.S. men;s national team is ranked higher than
England in the latest FIFA rankings. No one really cares though, because it´s soccer. Well except for a select few.

2. Auto Racing that isn´t NASCAR Winston Cup (IRL, F-1, ALMS, Sprints). PK won´t say this one, because he´s in the biz, but racing that isn´t NASCAR doesn´t really get the attention it should.

Even the casual sports fan knows who Jeff Gordon is. Do they know who Sam Hornish is? Do they know who Danny Lasoski is? Emanuele Pirro? How about Richard Burns?

You could get every champion from a non-big-3 NASCAR series and parade them through a garage area at a NASCAR event and maybe 2 of 10 people would know who they are.

I know there´s RPM 2Nite and shows of similiar ilk on Speed, but RPM is going away, so all we´ll be left with is Taxicabs 24/7 on SPEED.

3. Cycling (Never hear anything about it outside of the Tour de France) The Vuelta Espana is going on now, how many people´s papers are running stories/agate. There´s more to cycling than Lance Armstrong and there´s more than one race a year.

Getting off the soapbox...

Dude....I completely forgot about curling. I was transfixed by it during the Winter Olympics. I think it´s a great sport.

During the Winter Olympics, I was thinking, "Hey...it would be great if me and, like, 4 of my buddies got together and got dual citizenship in some nice Carribbean island...like Antigua or something. Then we could start our own curling team and be in the Olympics."

I still think it´s a good idea.....
