Wednesday Night ToCA3 MLR (3/29)

Post by Zeppo »

Folks;

In continuing what has returned as our weekly ToCA MLR night, I thought for tonight's one-off race it would be fun to do the Formula Fords at Donnington (short).

I was contemplating doing a Formula Ford series, like we did last time around in ToCA2. It would be a little different with Pro-Sim and we could run at different circuits. However, there are too many good open-wheeled cars we never had in ToCA2 to waste a series on the F. Fords, not to mention the F. Ford races seem to be capped at 25 laps, which is a little short for our half hour races on some of the tracks.

Anyway, tonight we will operate with the usual schedule:

10:30pm EST: get together in the room, shoot the breeze, and wait for everyone to show up.

10:40pm EST: the 10-minute warm-up sessions gets underway, immediately followed by the 2-lap qualifying session (unless I discover F. Fords have closed qualifying, in which case it will be 1-lap for qualifying).

Then, a five-minute break.

Soon after 11pm EST, we drop the flag on the DSP MLR Formula Ford Special at Donnington (short). We will have a mandatory pit stop, assuming that is possible in the F. Fords.

Who's in?

PS Any and all discussion about an MLR Series is encouraged. I'm thiking 5 or 6 rounds. I'd love to do one of the smaller open wheel cars to start with, like the F. J-1000s or the F. BMWs or the F. Palmer Audis. After that I'd like to do the F3s, but maybe we should just jump into the F3s right away. Any ideas?

Have some coaching to do tonight, but I should be back in front of my XBox by the time this gets started.

I'm not a big fan of the Formula Fords in this game, at least not with the bevy of more powerful open-wheel cars, but they're still fun. Definitely wouldn't want to do more than a couple long races with them.

For a MLR series, my votes would go to Palmer Audi and F3, but I will be a very irregular participant, so my votes shouldn't count for much!

I'll be there.

I vote for F3 right away for an MLR series, although I probably won't be able to make the last round or two because I'll be in Indy. F3's are easier to drive the J1000's or Formula Palmer Audi's, in my opinion, because they have more downforce than power.

Take care,
PK

Consider me a provisional. I have every intention of making it, but my record lately of showing up is not good.

If we don't have enough guys tonight, we'll just do some 5 lappers etc.

I am starting to think F3s is the way to go for the first series. I have 7 rounds in mind, piecing it together.

That game is COOOOOL. I love Indy...with a passion. So anytime you want to run Indys again Zep, Pk, etc...I'm all in. If I didn't get taken out by the careless few, I woulda ran under 38 I think. I was slowly moving the time down each lap, getting faster and faster.

Hey, my first win against you guys! And it was all due to the fact that I stayed out of all that trouble at the start. Like I said, it'd be nice to win one by actually BEING fast!

F*cking cold tires. Sorry for being a rolling hazard at times last night. It was nice to take a win in the Global GTs after not being able to keep them pointed in the right direction in the first two...after winning the pole.

This is a great online game, that's for sure.

Big fun, as always. I threw away the first two Global GT races, which irritated me to no end. The FBMW's were big-time fun, especially at Spa. But what isn't fun at Spa? :)

Was it just me, and I mean this in all seriousness, but did the cold tires at the start of each race seem frostier than ever last night? It took FOREVER for the tires to warm up in the Formula Fords -- must have been the UK Winter Series. :)

DB, I don't think I would have caught you at Indy even if we both stayed off the wall. I started too far back due to crashing in qualifying, and our lap times always were within a tenth of each other, with you usually a short, curly one quicker. That would have been a good race.

Speaking of Indy, I'm ready to run a 50-lapper online. I think we'd see a lot less cracked carbon fiber in that race than our shorter races because the "Sh*t, it's a sprint race; I need to hustle" mentality would disappear.

My only disappointment with this game remains the sprint cars. Really poorly done and damn dull to run. A far cry from the brilliance of Ratbag's World of Outlaws. I dug those Baja buggies last night, though.

Otherwise, this is a tremendous game in every respect. Mega fun!

P.S.: There's a REALLY fun class we need to run online -- Ariel Atoms. They're in the Honda Special category. Basically, they're high-powered shifter karts with a tube-frame body and no shell. I think they have a small rear wing. They're a mega-fun cross between a kart and a J 1000. Let's do them next time!

Take care,
PK

As you can probably guess, I completely agree. After all, my team had to put a "COLD TIRES, GAYBLADE" note on my steering wheel before each race.

I just don't like the Formula Fords as much in this game as the last ToCA. But those GT Lights are about 10x twitchier this time around. I have way too little seat time in non-open wheel cars.

The Atoms do seem pretty cool. Can you imagine those at Brands Hatch Indy?

good times blades...

I'd like to race more of the fendered few, since we usually seem to do mostly open wheelers...

it seems the GT Lights and FF switched spots from TOCA2 to TOCA3
