Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII

Post by TheTruth »

Anyone else looking forward to this game? Looks like this could be a pretty fun game online with the different modes available. Here is an interview with the producer.

Been looking at it for months. I'm a sucker for any WW2 flight game since Aces of the Pacific way back when. Something about old planes and old-fashioned bullets instead of radar locks and missiles that really gets me going.

I'll be grabbing the 360 version without question.

Ditto, to everything you said.

I can still remember playing Ace of the Pacific on my 486 with a 14" monitor. I went out and bought the Thrustmaster stick and rudder pedals too, still have 'em.

"There are three multiplayer game types: solo, co-op and squadron-based. The solo game modes cover the standard dogfight with some neat variations like Aces High (first player to kill other becomes the Ace, only the Ace scores the kills) or Search and Destroy (every player must kill every other at least once to score). The co-op allows for dogfight, kamikaze attacks or bombing runs against AI enemies, as well as playing the solo campaign missions cooperatively; as the missions are completed in the Campaign mode, they’re unlocked for co-op play. The squadron modes are dogfight, capture the base and bombing run."

Oh yeah! I'm all over it.

Hopefully enough guys will get the 360 version so we can get some good co-op/multiplayer action going. I believe the game comes out end of March.

Hopefully that Co-Op can be played over LIVE.

I was very excited about this game, but for some reason, the latest gameplay videos did not do much for me.

I've been checking out the game ever since I saw a few vids a week or so ago. I teach Amer. History so any WWII game will get my interest. When is it released?

You guys should check out Heroes of the Pacific for the Xbox. It has dogfight, teamdogfight, scratch one flattop, fox and hound. Its 8 players on Xbox Live . You can have AI in there as well.

I am more interested in Battlestations Midway than Blazing Angels. You can also control the battleships in that one.

I really enjoyed Heroes of the Pacific, and i still pop it in once in a while. It's a solid title, no question and gets much better as you progress through the game (although I wish you could map the rudder to the triggers instead of the R-stick, that way I could probably fly with the 'pro' scheme. . . ).

However, online play was weak at best. All the modes are essentially dogfight modes, even the 'scratch one flattop' mode, which is the only mode where you can fly anything but a fighter. If we had a good group of 8 guys, we could have fun online, but it never happened.

The biggest disappointment was the lack of co-op play in the game. If we could do co-op sessions online (4 guys, 6 guys) with the regular missions, Heroes would be killer. But we can't.

That's why I'm looking forward to this title. It appears it might be less 'simmy' that Heroes (not that heroes was brutally simmy), but with more objective-based multiplayer modes, and especially the ability to do the single-player missions online in co-op, this is the one I've been waiting for. Sure, there's no guarantee it's not a piece of garbage, but what can you do about that? Just wait and see.
