Re: Battlefield 3
-Players should no longer take fall damage from short falls.
-Players now get up from Prone slightly faster, allowing better odds of getting away from a grenade or threat when prone.
-Fixed some situations that would unintentionally make a player unrevivable.
-Reduced the black screen fade in time on spawn. The fade is still necessary for properly streaming in loading content at spawn, but it has been substantially reduced.
-Increased the spawn protection time from 1sec to 2sec. The protection will still be immediately canceled as soon as the player moves or shoots.
-Spawn protection will no longer be canceled by the player looking around.
-Increased the speed at which a player regains accuracy when aiming after moving for a more responsive experience. Firing before fully zoomed will still result inaccurate fire.
-Increased the inaccuracy and recoil added when a player is fully suppressed.
-Shotgun Buck and Flechette rounds now have a less suppressive effect at medium to long range.
-Tweaked the damage levels of Buck and Flechette rounds to balance them with other weapons.
-Improved the suppression of the .44 magnum, .357 magnum, and the 5.8x42mm DAP88 rounds from the Type88 sniper.
-Attempting to Crouch (like Prone) will now properly interrupt Sprint.
-Increased the effectiveness of Suppression Resist Specialization.
-Parachutes now respond to turn and throttle inputs more quickly.
-Switching from primary weapons to side arms and back now takes less time.
-Increased the effectiveness of explosive resistance.
-Tweaked bipod deploy settings so players can no longer deploy a bipod in places higher than chin level.
-The bipod should now be more reliable when deploying on top of sloped objects like cars and rocks.
-Fixed several issues with vaulting objects, especially for thin railings.
-The Knife now only takes two swipes to kill when attacking from a position where a take down is not possible.

Work has been nuts and I haven't been able to play much Battlefield but I logged back onto the PC version on the weekend for the first time in perhaps a month.....and got massacred. Not only did I lose whatever modicum of skill I had before, it seems like everyone is now close to Rank 50 (or whatever the top is).

With Javelin's getting extra power and aircraft able to use flares against laser-designated missiles, SOFLAM sounds like too much trouble to be worth it.
Curious to see if the USAS/Frag changes really affect the gun much. That is the only weapon I hate in this game, even the Famas doesn't bother me that much.

Re: Battlefield 3
Some other things I didn't even notice on the tweaks.
-Players may now use their knife to destroy enemy equipment.
-C4 will no longer be detonable after a player respawns, if the player is revived within 5 seconds he can still detonate his C4.
-The player may now have a maximum number of mines which will persist after the player's death. Deploying more than the maximum of 6 mines will remove a previous mine from the world.
-Slightly reduced the effective blast radius of the RPG, SMAW, and 40mm grenade projectiles against infantry.
-Reduced the total number of RPG and SMAW missiles carried from 5 to 4. Players desiring more rockets will want to use the Explosive spec.
-The M224 Mortar can no longer be deployed in an area that is out of combat for another team like a home base or other protected spawn.
-Mines, Claymores, C4 and other deployable items will now only appear on the minimap when spotted by a teammate.

WTF? SOFLAMS can be defeated by flares now??? What are these idiots doing? Just get rid of the f***in ground to air missiles already, and paint a big damned 'SHOOT ME!' on every ground vehicle and avatar in the game. Un-freaking-believable. That's exactly the OPPOSITE of what needed to happen. Holy s***.

Flares now distract all missiles, but stingers now "lock on much more quickly and disable an attack aircraft in 1 hit", and flares don't break the lock. Before, a chopper would drop a flare and everyone shooting at it would lose their lock and everyone would take several seconds to re-acquire the target. Now, if two guys with stingers are shooting at the chopper, the second shooter can disable the aircraft immediately after the chopper uses its flares.
Also, it sounds like a deployed SOFLAM will not appear on the enemies mini-map, which you were requesting the other day.
I guess we'll have to see how it balances out.

Re: Battlefield 3
On the plus side, they buffed the Stinger. Flares won't shake a sight lock-on, only a rocket. The Stinger has been upped to a one-hit disable too. I think it makes the Stinger much more valuable again. A squad with two Stinger engineers would probably decimate a chopper or force it out of the airspace.Teal wrote:WTF? Also, they have made low-altitude a non-lock on area. This hurts Stingers, but at the same time, it will force a lot of choppers to fly where they are more vulnerable to LMG/Tank/RPG fire. And tanks and RPGs will be one-hit kills for aircraft.
Finally, while the chopper can flare a laser designated rocket, if the chopper stays painted, an engineer should be able to reload and fire before flares are ready again (11 seconds for the pilot) unless there's a gunner with flares.
I think it's a slight nerf of choppers overall. Stingers will be actually useful and low-flying choppers will be vulnerable.

What I'd like to see are gaming MP "playlists" a la COD. A "no aircraft" playlist would be fantastic for me.

Probably not, since the flavor of the day is apparently F1. I jumped full-bore back into the fray last night, and had a ball. Only played Rush, and the first match, I got my butt kicked. But once I got my sea legs back, man...loads of fun. I'd be all-in for some BF3 tonight while the kiddies play go karts next door...

WTF kind of tweak is having flares work against laser-guided munitions? That's an arbitrary and idiotic move. Why not have grenades automatically fail against anyone holding a sidearm? Maybe allow anyone with a suppressor attached to leap tall buildings in a single bound?
Bullshit.
Bullshit.

Re: Battlefield 3
I saw this one explanation as to why flares would now break laser lock.
So basically, yeah, a flare breaking the missile lock still makes absolutely no sense. Pilots should be afraid that they can't flare away incoming missiles with impunity. Isn't that the whole point?Alan Kertz @Demize99
Why do flares work vs laser guided missiles? For the victim it's impossible to distinguish the lock source or missile type. Flares just fail
XBL-Naples39; Steam-scrub47; GameCenter-MasterOnion39;
Re: Battlefield 3
I agree. If they wanted to reduce laser effectiveness, they should have kept the lock and reduced the damage. However, they did increase Javelin damage against tanks, and if you can get a sighted chopper to panic and release flares before firing, a laser-guide can still do a lot of damage.
This illustrates the problem of having consoles have fewer players than PCs. On big maps, the chopper can do an assload of damage, especially early when you're trucking across the open spaces that tend to lead to the heart of the map. When there are 3-4 guys in the air on a 12-person squad, 3-4 in tanks, and the obligatory 3-4 morons/sniper whores, it leaves little for blasting choppers from the ground.
Honestly, on big maps, this makes me rethink going engineer and getting in a tank. I may go support and hop in a jeep to cap flags, especially after seeing what you can do with a little C4 attached.

Yeh and i was suckered into buying 2, no one plays it , most ive came up with is 5 players and you still need 8 guys for a private match . Give what up? I prefer BF:BC2 over BF3, so that's the game with which I want to spend more of my time. If people want to join me, great. If they want to stay with BF3, super. No sweat off my ass, either way.Teal wrote:Yeah, I wish they'd just give it up. We have BF3, and it's just fine.
And is "our BF3" fine? That's not the impression a newcomer to this site would get by reading the last two pages of this thread. They're choked with complaints about the current game and the changes from the proposed patch.

This patch should make things better so let's get to it! I might s*** a brick if BF3 announced a Bad Company map pack. That would be awesome.

Yeh Diablo that would be sweet the few maps i played felt really good. You can definitely see the cod influence in the bf3 maps, id really like to try a Vietnam map but i dont think i have them even though i was prompted to download them.
Nice sounds in BC2 also seems a better ambiance to the whole thing maybe cause there is no one fighting so its more distinctive when stuff does happen but the sound of the Springfield never gets old.
Or is it the Garand ? anyway the one with the 5 shot spring clip.

Re: Battlefield 3
I loved BC2, don't get me wrong, but I like BF3 just fine. There's a tendency to look to the past, though, through rose-colored glasses, and the fact that there's almost no one playing BC2 anymore has an effect on the 'enjoyability' of the game. If I play a game and feel like Rambo, then yeah, I'm gonna say that game x, in which only a remnant are playing, therefore tipping the success in my direction, is better than game y, which is newer and therefore has more players on it, meaning a higher level of competition. Truth be known, there were things about BC2 that made me want to pull my hair out, too. It was damned near impossible, for instance, to knock a helicopter out of the sky on that game, too. Vietnam actually saved the game for me, and yeah, I'd love for them to move the Vietnam pack over to BF3. But one of the main reasons that BF3 seems more difficult is that we can't put together even a good 4 man squad alot of the time, and work as a team. Trust me, if we could consistently get a couple of 4 man squads, I'd do nothing but play squad rush, or rush in general.
For my part, I don't believe that BC2 is any better than BF3, just older, and more sparsely populated.
