MLB 2K9 Official Thread of 360 owners fingers crossed

Not true. Many major League hitters can pick up the spin on the ball or tell by the pitcher's release what type of pitch it is. That is what MVP was trying to recreate.MizzouRah wrote:Which I like better.. I shouldn't be able to tell the pitch type when a pitcher releases the ball.. but early in a game it would help to know what pitches are being thrown at me.macsomjrr wrote:MVP had the color change as the ball left the pitchers hand. This has the color changing as the ball crosses the plate. The difference being you won't be told the pitch type until after you've already started swinging.MizzouRah wrote: Other aesthetic differences from MLB 2K8 include a new base throwing meter that is functionally the same as last year (meaning it's still governed by the right stick) and pitches that are identifiable thanks to a flash of color as they cross the plate.
Jack, the hitting is not the same. With the Swing stick, you had to time the back step, else you'd hit a crappy hit. I used to lowewr the step influence a lot in order to play the game. This year, no step influence.
It also sounds like you can influence your hit with the left stick, instead of realying on the Inside Edge stats (supposedly) to calculate the hit like last year.

TXB Preview
One of the complaints in Tom Price’s review of MLB 2K8 was with “the dodgy, stuttering graphics.” While the version of MLB 2K9 we were shown wasn’t complete, usually a prerelease version has a poorer frame rate and graphic quality, because it hasn’t been optimized yet. However, this demo seemed to have a solid frame rate and sharp visuals, which is encouraging.

Says PS2 but it looks like 360 or PS3 graphics.

Thank you kind sir. Being a teaser trailer and no gameplay is disappointing but oh well. Graphics look crisper than last year with better fiel textures. Not really much else you can get from that one.Pete wrote:http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/sports/majo ... er-trailer

Something interesting from the trailer that was caught by someone on the 2ksports forums.

PC version would be interesting since it has been awhile for baseball gamers.

Well they did bring NBA 2k9 to the PC this year...so maybe they are trying to expand a bit.bdoughty wrote:Something interesting from the trailer that was caught by someone on the 2ksports forums.

I am definately going to wait to pick this up..... (of course, I say that about games all the time and never listen to logic!)
One big piece will be when the demo drops. If it's like last year and the demo drops late, with all the same mass of confusion on the 2k boards (because they wouldn't lie now, would they???) then I think that's clue #1 for me to stick to hockey and soccer on the 360.

I think I am going to skip this this year. Unless you guys just give it rave reviews.
My plan right now is just to get the PS2 version of MLB for $30, save $30 and play a solid title. This past week I revisted MLB'07 and it is very solid. I would imagine 2 years later it is that much better.
In a baseball game I don't look for flash. It needs to play a fundamentally sound, logical game of baseball and MLB does that.

I've become a "wait and see" gamer.. too bad I don't have a ps3, because you know The Show spent most of their time fixing things and improving game play.. MLB basically spent a year redoing its game.. much like NHL 2k9.
I'm very skeptical though.. and much like FOM, will await reviews and impressions before making my decision.

2K Sports announced that National League Cy Young Award winner, Tim Lincecum of the San Francisco Giants, will be featured as the cover athlete and spokesman for next year's highly anticipated baseball video game, MLB 2K9. Yesterday's MLB 2K9 trailer shows a PC logo in the credits, usually indicating which platforms a game will appear on, and a 2K Sports rep. just confirmed this being true
