I love Smoltz, he is such a competitor. Wickman almost blew a save, kind of reminds me of Izzy when he's on the mound.dbdynsty25 wrote:That was much better. And even colder today. On to the rubber game and the division lead.

Normally he's a lot more controlled. Not sure what happened today. Two inches higher on that Green line drive and it's a tie ball game. That's why I HATE when the teams just let the tying run steal 2nd without even trying to hold him or make a play. It almost bit the Braves in the ass on that Green line drive. Oh well...they lived to tell about it.MizzouRah wrote:I love Smoltz, he is such a competitor. 31 men, lol. And now you see why it really doesn't matter when you win 11-1 in the first game if you can't drive runners in in the following games.
Can't beat sending the two "self-appointed" best teams in the division home as series losers. But as you guys mentioned, it is gonna be a battle all year. The mets are just too damn good to lose many more against the rest of the division. I am convinced that Reyes is the most dangerous guy in the National league. I also am not sure what the hell is wrong with the Phillies.

It was nice to see Santana have a great outing on a cold, April day. He usually struggles quite a bit and can't find his changeup nearly as well.
The Mariners are really going to enjoy making up three games with Cleveland at some point, hope they didn't schedule much to do on their random off days in May, June, or July. Painful.

Four games now, plus they moved this week's Angels/Tribe series to Milwaukee. That's bizarre. At $10 a ticket, I wonder how many fans will wander in. Probably more than they'd get at the Jake this week.Dave wrote:

Looks like Rollins needs to stop talking and get back on the field to take some ground ball practice.
And hell, EVERY damn article I've read today has New Yorkers being pissed at his yapping too...yet he says it's "tilted." I'm not sure how everyone can be offended by what you say...yet, it's tilted. But whatever. The Braves will still probably get 3rd in the division since the Phils and Mets have better lineups and the Braves lost Hampton for the year AGAIN. Good times.

One week into the AL East division and you'll find the three usual suspects fighting for top place. The Jays will continue to pound the opponent with that offense, if only the bullpen can be steady, the boos in the bronx has shifted from A-Rod to the rotation starters (they can't seem to last more than five innings) while the Redsox had some problems with their mid-relievers.
A.J. Burnett did his job last night after a shaky start last week in DET.

Saw the Cubs play the Brewers last weekend and I have to say, that was a nice park. Definitely helped that the roof was closed. The tailgating was straight out of a Bears-Packers matchup with all the snow as well, lol.
Can't remember a start of a season with this many games called due to wintry weather.

Watching the Yankees/Twins games the last few nights, they showed drawing of the Twins new stadium to open in 2010. It will be an open stadium, no retractable roof. The Twins GM said the cost of a retractable roof would add $150 million that they couldn't get. I know the Twins didn't always have a Dome, but the season generally starts about 2 weeks earlier compared to the 60's & 70's. Should make for some interesting weather.AJColossal wrote: Can't remember a start of a season with this many games called due to wintry weather.

I think you probably benefitted from the added intensity of a Brewers-Cubs game. I've been to Miller Park for a couple of non-rivalry games (MKE vs. Rockies & Pirates) and found the stadium to be pretty lifeless.AJColossal wrote:Saw the Cubs play the Brewers last weekend and I have to say, that was a nice park. It's an impressive physical structure to be sure but it's lacking in ballpark atmosphere. Bonus points given for the bratwurst with red sauce and the in-stands beer vendors.

How does that new ballpark compare to Old County Stadium? I was there years ago and thought the place was fantastic. Great tailgating and also the park had a very small town friendly feel to it. It felt like a turning back the clock there.

Yeah, the Cubs-Brewers thing added a lot to the atmosphere. I dunno, it seemed like a pretty fan-friendly park. Or maybe it was just nice not to piss in a trough for a change. I can see it being dead with less of an interesting matchup.sfz_T-car wrote:I think you probably benefitted from the added intensity of a Brewers-Cubs game. The fans in general seem like they are coming around, and I think they've got an interesting team.
Someone else asked how I thought it compared to County, but I never visited it.

I've been to both County and the new digs...and County just destroys it. A lot of these new "modern" ballparks focus more on entertainment as a whole than to promote the baseball that is being played. Too much eye candy and attractions around the park to distract everyone there. County was strictly baseball...that's all you got. That is a much better environment to watch a ballgame. At least if you're a fan of baseball. Maybe the average fan doesn't really care about the game...they just want to be at the game to be seen (see Dodger fans for the BEST example).
You're probably right about that. I think even a place like Wrigley field today doesn't feel like how it use to feel years ago. I went to a game last year there and it seemed like nobody there cared about the ballgame. It was just the place to be.dbdynsty25 wrote:I've been to both County and the new digs...and County just destroys it. Well, to update some of you who helped me plan this, I am leaving for my so cal baseball trip on Friday and I lucked out on the Dodgers game this Sunday I will be attending. I didnt know when I bought the tickets but learned yesterday that it's Jackie Robinson Day Sunday. They'll be having a big ceremony and other things which will be great. I really lucked out getting this date for my trip. Going to also see the Angels end of next week and the Padres mid week. Also thinking of going to No Cal later this summer to check out Giants stadium and the A's Stadium.
My new hobby is going to be traveling around the country visiting baseball stadiums.
