Ireland-Argentina: 0-0
Not too much to report here, tight game, both teams had chances for scoring but both keepers stood tall when needed while the forwards missed their targets. The Irish had more possession of the ball, Zeppo has the stats I believe. Good game Zep.
Leebo, let me know when you can play our match.

I am going to be around pretty much all day today except for lunch. I am trying to play Zeppo (BTW, Zeppo you have a PM) after lunch around 1-2PM. If we need to play later at night EST then tonight would be the best for me. Tomorrow I have to go to work for a bit, but I can play in the late afternoon or early evening.10spro wrote:Leebo, let me know when you can play our match.

Holland 0 : 0 Republic of Ireland
The embarrassment continued this afternoon for the Republic of Ireland as they concluded the group stage without scoring a single goal. With a performance that was almost worse than the USA's showing in France '98 (who at least scored one goal, but earned only one point) the Irish end up with 2pts out of three matches. They can only hope to get through into the Quarter Finals should the final group match between the Dutch and Argentina result in yet another 0-0 draw, in which case a coin toss (or whatever tie-break is used) would decide between the Dutch and the Irish. Fans who were unfortunate enough to purchase tickets to Group B matches are flooding the ticket offices for their money back, for they had been under the impression they were meant to see football played, not games of pinucle.
Holland 0 : 0 Rep. of Ireland
SoG(SoT) 9(3) : 9(5)
Corners 3 : 2
Fouls (Off S.) 2(0) : 4(3)
Possession 48 : 52
Bookings: Van Bommel (yellow)
no injuries
Good game, leebo, and good luck against Argentina! It's all up for grabs now!

Yeah, good game. I thought I generated some pretty good chances on crosses, but couldn't bury any. It took those 2 long balls, both botched by defenders in some way, to score my only goals. Either way, I was desperate for points as a loss would've eliminated me from the tournament.Slumberland wrote:France goes down in flames to the Czechs, 2-0!
Good game, Naples... I had no answers, though if I had played things smarter, I think I could have avoided giving up both those goals. Especially that second one!
I have to say, playing France is pretty terrifying. Every time Henry gets the ball I would try to put at least 2 men on him, yet you could always dribble him into the box. Fortunately the defending in numbers technique prevented Henry from being able to get off a strong shot.

And btw, if there is a FIFA fair play award for this tourney, I think it belongs to my Czechs thus far. 2 games, only 2 fouls, and no cards.

I'm worried about connecting with Rob tonight. We have tried multiple times in the past, but it fails every time. It's really strange though, as we've played other games before without problems (GoW, Vegas, WE9), and neither of us have had any problems playing WE2007 with anyone else.
Has anyone seen this issue before, or have any suggestions for what we can do?

England 2 - France 6
France's likelihood of advancing looked bleak from the outset, as England's Owen put himself at the right place at the right time not once but twice to give England an early 2-0 lead. Before despair could creep into the minds of the Les Bleus, Henry was able to find a rebound after a low, hard attempt was mishandled by the keeper, and put it home clumsily with his face. Still, England enjoyed a 2-1 lead going into halftime.
In the second half, Henry put the team on his back, roaring back to life with five additional goals and abusing a bewildered and out-of-position Ferdinand repeatedly for the double hat trick.

The good news is that I only gave up 3 goals to 3 good players in 3 games. The bad news is that I didn't score in the entire tournament! James can provide the details but Argentina beat the Netherlands 1-0. Both teams had a handful of great scoring opportunities, but only 1 attempt beat the spectacular keepers.
Netherlands- Argentina: 0-1
Both teams were scoreless in their previous matches and they wanted to put one badly in the net. As a result it was an entertaining open game with clear chances for both teams. Like Lee said, both keepers were stellar. Hernan Crespo who was rather silent in his previous two matches, scored on the 58 minute of the game.
A yellow card was issued to a Dutch player in the 1st half.

Good game Lee, I know you had played already two league games before this one, thanks for staying up.

Croatia 0 Czech Rep. 3
Shots 13(5), 16(10)
FK 1, 5
Corn 1, 4
Posses. 49, 51
Bookings: Baic RED (for multiple cautions)
Scoring: Koller 24', 85'; Rosicky 69'
The Czech Republic totally dominated a demoralized and frustrated Croatian side which faced its second shutout of the tournament. Tomas Rosicky carved open the Croat defense with a beautifully weighted through ball in the 24th minute to spring big Jan Koller for his first of the day. The Croats chased the game hard, but were wasteful of their chances throughout, and found poor luck when they did manage to get one on target. Rosicky grabbed one for himself 15 minutes after half, and Koller finished his brace shortly before full-time. The Croats disintegrated down the stretch, playing ugly and vindictive football that resulted in midfield Baic earning two yellows in short order.
Good game, Naples. I just haven't figured out how to f'in score yet, but I am glad that we were able to get it in. Good luck down the road!

Cameroon 1, Italy 1
Toni (ITA) 12
Douala (CMR) 60
Bookings: Yellow - Geremi (CMR); Red - Perrier Doumbe (CMR)
Knowing that they needed to take three points away from the match with the mighty Italians, Cameroon can't help but think what might've been. The match was precisely what one would have expected from any meeting of these two sides - relentless attacking by Cameroon and steely defense and deadly counters by the Italians. Toni put the Azuri on top early by finishing nicely a very sloppy clearance. This only made both sides play more to their stereotypes - the Italians crawled into a shell and Cameroon pushed everyone forward. As a result the Lions peppered the Italian trenches hitting more than a few crossbars in the process, but making little headway until Douala's goal in the sixtieth minute. Few would have thought it possible, but they pushed even more up until the point where the Azuri were being flagged for offside on clearances. It's not to say that it was pretty flowing football by the Lions. Indeed, they reinforced their growing reputation as the tournament's thugs by having yet another man sent off in this match. Further, they spent the whole match hacking the Italian strikers unbeknownst to the apparently blind referee, including several brutal challenges in the box that were never called. In the end the brilliant Italian defense held, and they go in to the final match against Sweden controlling their own destiny. Cameroon's only hope is for a draw between these two as they hold a slight edge in goal differential.
Great game Scoop. Good luck the rest of the way, but not too much against Sweden
