The way I figure it, is MLB2k9 seems to be a lot like myself. Not the prettiest girl at the dance, but she'll do. Every once in a while, the game will do something weird or annoying (uh, also like me) and still needs a lot of work, like a patch and hunting for reasonable sliders (or, in my case going to the gym and learning how to dress better!)

But at the end of the day, we're both fun, we both talk a lot (i'm digging the commentary this year!) and we'll both give you some enjoyment (MLB for an hour at a time, me.... half an inning or so)

I have not seen a proliferation of the 1B glitch, and I don't know if I've seen it once? I try to have my throw metre in the green, so maybe that has something to do with it.....

The fielders jerking around, or slowing down I've seen.....

My catcher not standing on home plate on a bases loaded infield hit to try for an out, I've seen.

The AI hacking at the first pitch I've seen, though I think I may have toned it down a bit.... and also follow the catcher's suggestions, even if he's way out of the zone.

I still have a lot of playtime left before I totally fall in love, or totally hate the game, but at the moment I'd give it a 7 out of 10.

If I had the Show to compare it to, I might have a different score, but sometimes it pays to be the only guy at the bar.... ;)

I'm curious to see what another patch will do to the game.......

I'm loving the online play. Super smooth & playing "people" takes care of the AI issues! But I'm sure The Show plays super smooth online as well... :)

Question.

If i'm batting and have a runner on first, is there anyway for me to pull up the runner on first's speed stats so I know if he's got the speed to steal?

I don't believe so. Unless, try pausing the game, going to the substiution screen, then pinch runner, and it may show you everyone's speed there?

I'll try that next time I play.

No...it's just that when you really want something to be good, you overlook some things that may otherwise piss you off. It's okay...it's human nature, but anyone who has played the Show 09 knows what a good game is supposed to be. And I'd really like to know if there is ONE person out there who has both that thinks 2k9 is better than 09.

Then again, I think that most of the guys who like 2k9 are just guys that want to have fun with the game. Hell, the controls are pretty fresh. They are fun and easy to learn. The casual fan, which most of the 2k9 supporters here are, don't mind an occasional bug or annoyance. The stats and the sim nature of baseball isn't all that important to a lot of guys. At OS, the baseball crowd is a little more hardcore...thus, if they only have a 360, they are PISSED off. Thankfully, most of us here that are hardcore, have both systems and we can play the Show. That's most likely what it comes down to.

Well bless The Show and that most of the hardcore gamers here at DSP have both systems so they can play their beloved Show. I can sleep well knowing this to be true. Really, we are now 2ksupporters? That is the only game we have to play. For heavens sake just let us play this bastard child of a baseball game in peace.

Why I bet there is a thread here were people can salivate all over The Shows nuts.

Have you played with the classic controls yet online? This is how I prefer to play...will send you a friends request...maybe we can play sometime.

DB...have you tried using classic controls for pitching? I definitely can't pinpoint my pitches using classic.

No, I haven't. But that takes away the fun part of 2k9...the analog stick control is very well done, albeit too accurate. I'll give it a try tonight, but I reckon that will make me even less enthusiastic about the game. I play it now just because the wife takes over the main LCD and I have to go to the office. LOL.

And BD...my goal was to get you a good nights sleep. I'm glad that was accomplished.

I do appreciate that. I am having almost as much fun with the game as I am checking out the 2ksports forums.

Poor Guru was banned already. He is now using Baseball_Guru2.

I'm not a classic control guy, but some dude I played the other day, paused the game & switched his to classic.

Well, I've seen the 1B bug, and it's pretty significant. Doesn't happen often, but it happened today at a VERY inopportune time, like in an "it-woulda-been-the-last-out-of-the-game-and-I-would've-won" kind of way. As a matter of fact, I threw the guy out before he was even halfway to first, and he was STILL called safe. 8O

So there's definitely some ironing out that needs to be done-I don't want to imply that I don't see what other people are seeing. I just don't want my posts on the subject to look like this:

"b*tch WHINE MOAN MOAN b*tch b*tch b*tch! COMPLAIN, WHINE b*tch MOAN NAG WHINE WHINE! COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, WHINE b*tch MOAN GRIPE GRIPE! %&*#ING GRIPE GRIPE MOAN b*tch WHINE b*tch WHINE!

AND ANOTHER THING-%$%&$*%$%$*%&$%$%$!!!!!!!

And that's my .02..."

Seen too many of those posts already...

Teal,

Were you using buttons to throw? I heard if you use the sticks to throw that it doesn't happen.

I use the right stick for fielding throws and don't have any 1B bug. The key is to keep the meter in the green. Don't let the meter go into the red area or throws will be wild.

Yeah, that may be...but at least make the throw off line to pull the 1B off the bag. As it stands, he throws it right to the first baseman, but magically he's not on the bag...err something. It does help to stay in the green so it's mostly a graphical issue. Not THAT big of a deal. Just stupid that it's in there.

I read on OS, or somewhere, that the theory is there's a missing animation, or the game just doesn't play the animation, of a foot lift or jump or what not.....

sloppy, yes.

Another bug, though i only tried once, so maybe it was a one time only thing....

On the trade screen, it says to switch between MLB/AAA/etc with clicking the left stick... wellll, it doesn't work.

Gangrel, clicking the left stick should work to cycle through the minors. I know it works when just going through the rosters

I've seen the 1b off the bag-bug a few times. If the throw is early enough, you can actually move the 1b-man towards the bag & he'll tag the base.

It works in the rosters, but not the trade screen. I haven't tried it again, but during the same session where it wasn't working in the trade screen, i double checked the roster screen where it WAS still working.....

I'll see if it works next time I play.... maybe it was a one time thing?

I tried to find video of the alleged first base glitch, but stumbled on this one instead and had a chuckle.

2K should really consider getting out of their exclusivity with the MLB. That is truly bad. 8O

I heard that's a new rule this year.. runners can now be "in the area" of the bag, since the fielders get that call

The first base glitch is there - usually happens with close plays and such.. I use the sticks and see it from time to time.. Disappointing, but not something that would make me say the game is horrible

I have also had no issues selecting the different levels of minors with the left stick.. maybe that appears at random times?

I don't like the exclusivity thing, at all. I like to have a choice. That being said, it's still not enough of a thing to ruin this game for me. Doesn't happen all the time or anything, and it's not like some crazy thing like that hasn't happened before in other games...
