the rumor since ep#3 is that they're dead already - looking to be a good bet.
I swear the producers already confirmed that they were NOT dead.
To quote our favorite Iraq: "Obviously we're not dead."
It seemed obvious to me that this was the writers taking one of the prevailing theories head on. A nod and a wink to the audience...sort of post-modern almost.
I also loved when Rosseau and Locke exchanged pleasantries. Must be the old PoliSci student in me, but I got a kick out of it.

Even though that episode made it seem like they are indeed dead I don't think they are, mainly because of Juliette's flashback story where she was taken there mostly of her own free will.
3 more seasons of 16 episodes each (uninteruppted). Sounds like what we had been hearing all along if I recall correctly. 6 seasons of an arching story line. Either there is a ton more crap to reveal and this story gets even deeper or we will be seeing a bit more filler.
UPDATE:
Ouch...just read this...
"In January, Lindelof and Cuse said that they envisioned the endpoint for "Lost" around episode 100. The agreement with ABC will bring the total number of episodes to 120."
Looks like we will indeed see a good deal more filler. Oh well. At least they are not short changing us like some had thought may happen.
1. 16 is a really odd number per season (someone pointed it out already)
2. The announcement reports that the producers will be on until the end, but makes no mention of locking-up the stars. They could be under contract until then already, but that's usually a hard thing to keep under wraps.
I just wonder if I'll still care in 2009 or whatever...
There going to run them starting in Jan. each season, more then likely the end of Jan. So it runs through May sweeps. They are also switching the night and moving back to an earlier time slot, the later start hurt the ratings badly. but the thought is because it is the most recorded / downloaded show moving back to an earlier time may restore those ratings.
As for cast, there is a major shakeup coming in this season finale, I don't know what it is but it has been widely reported.
Personally I wish it was just 2 more 22 episode seasons, but at least this gurnatees us a conclusion to the series. It was reported in that article, but in one of the most recent podcast the producers hint that they show is pretty much guranted of not being canceled.

Geez, that was answered aaaages ago....
The Others had them in cages as part of some experiment. One of the Others told Sawyer the bears figured out how to get fish biscuits of the container in the cage quicker than he did.

Ahh yeah, I remember that now - the old bring polar bears to a tropical island via submarine... My bad.
It got lost in my mind among all the 300 different story lines, plot points, and meaningless "flashbacks".
If it's that hard for you to follow you might want to check your remote for a Power button or a Change Channel button. They're bound to be on there somewhere.

H-O-L-Y C-R-A-P!! That was insanse. Although i'm getting pissed that they're killing off all the characters i like. All i can say is if Sayid goes, i go.
But seriously, that was one wild episode. One question (well a lot but one to ask here), didn't Sawyer get the tape recorder from Locke who got it from "them"? How the hell would Juliette know what was on the other side of the tape? Technically wasn't it on the way back to the medical facility for her to pick up when it was "intercepted" by Locke?
My guess is that she knew that Ben's message to her was on the other side of the tape, as that is how they predetermined how to communicate with each other.
Maybe Locke still has a chance as it looked like he possibly only got shot in the hip? He was great in that episode and I'd hate to see him leave like that.
Wasn't he also Laszlo from Real Genius? Or does he just look like him.
Very creepy episode. That ash-like substance surrounding Jacob's cabin? WTF?
It seems quite intentional that Richard hasn't aged.
On the recent producer's podcast, they revisited the question as to whether or not one of them said there was nothing on the show that couldn't be explained by science. They couldn't remember saying that, but went on to clarify anyway that there was nothing on the island that couldn't be explained by 'pseudo-science', or more specifically, none of the explanations will be crazier than what you would find in a Michael Crichton novel.

Yep, same guy...

Note that the Dharma folks referred to the hostiles as the island natives. It's conceivable (likely?) that the genetic makeup of the true "Others" is different and precludes standard aging as we know it.
Now who else is/was a true Other and not an island import? Ethan quite likely. Possibly most of the Others except Ben/Juliet?
Pseudo-science....hmmm. OK, the real Others are all aliens. That's why they can't reproduce here. The island is their base, and hidden from the rest of the world. Maybe the losties are all aliens too, they just don't know it. They were planted back into the real world and have now been summoned back.
Sounds as probable as a lot of other theories so far
no way locke is dead. remember when lord of the rings dude was hanging from a tree - jack tapped on his chest a few times - presto! I'm sure some miracle is on the way.
i thought the whole cabin scene was kinda weak - looked like a tribute to Evil Dead 2.
last note: the first time ben mentioned jacob - i thought "NO, no more new characters! Esp invisible ones..." I keep waiting for the Globetrotters to be introduced and play the 'others' in some basketball. the more the, uh, more I guess...
