This is pretty freaking hot:dbdynsty25 wrote:Haha...that's what I've been saying ever since the first AI was completed. Kelly was the one true American Idol...the rest have been also-rans. But after meeting Carrie in a resturant...I have to say, she's pretty freakin' hot though. I will give her that.JackB1 wrote:Whoever writes those "original" songs should be shot. They are awful and torture to listen to. Neither finalist can hold a candle to Kelly Clarkson vocally and I wouldn't buy either's CD.

Oh, well...Bo will outsell Carrie anyway, I think. He'll do rock and stick out...she'll do country and blend in with the Martina McBrides, Trisha Yearwoods, and Leann Rimes' of the genre...at least AI has remained consistent...

Seems to me that there are a lot of country singers that don't sell records outside of the country fans. They do alright don't they? The whole point is to sell records...if it's only to one type of fan, you still can be a successful act.Weaver2005 wrote:I dont know if Carrie can sell records outside of the country fans.

Carrie will do fine. The audience that she caters to blends into the pop scene as well. It's not like she's Loretta Lynn; pop-country sells a lot of records these days. Plus, as wooden as she is on stage, the girl can sing.
It's ideally the best situation for Bo. I think it was in his best interest to lose. The original song they made for him was awful, just plain rotten and would have sold like s*** because it was taking him completely out of his element. American Idol is set up for a pop star to win and I don't think Bo fit that mold as well as Carrie. Now he can go out and make the kind of record he wants and not what the AI people want him to make. I'm actually curious to hear what he comes up with as some of the stuff he did on the show was brilliant, which is something I never thought I'd say about a contestant on that show.

Although this is probably better for Bo in the long run (from what I read about these contracts and such), I'm still pissed. I was hoping Bo would win so that America would have a "rocker" as the American Idol.
Seriously though, after watching just about every show (okay...I admitted it), I seriously doubt that any rocker can ever win. Sure Bo has some things he is not great at (they all do), but it was great watching someone "different" than what we had been used to seeing. I think he will do very well. Most importantly, he gets to keep doing what he loves to do.
As for Carrie, she is beautiful (and talented). I'm just not into Country music, and kept wishing she was on that Nashville singing show. Anyway, it worked out great for her.
3 out of the 4 winners have been women. Wonder if the guys can step it up. Guess we'll have to see next season (even though I already told myself I would stop watching Idol!).
One more thing, anyone catch that parody on the Paula Abdul thing with Simon Cowell having an "affair?" I guess that cements Idol's stand on the whole thing. I found it funny, better than some of the SNL skits these days. Randy cutting that record, playing his parents, Paula doing the engineering, Randy with the record and book coming out...they were right on with that parody. Guess this means there should be no doubt that Paula Abdul will be back next season.
Ok, enough Idol talk.
No, I'm not going to say "Great White Shark...out"

but this is better for Bo. He won't have to do this teeny bopper crap now. I dont know if Carrie can sell records outside of the country fans. I think Bo will be the bigger star in the long run.
In any case, I'm another doomed one to watch AI 5. I always tell myself that I'll only watch the "bad" episodes. I just wish Linsay Cardinale sang some better songs or something, yum.
Bill, I can't see how you can call anything Bo did "brilliant". I thought he epitimized the word "mediocore". I think you can walk into any country-rock live band bar in "Anytown USA" on any given Sat. night and find someone equal to Bo Bice. Could not be further from the truth. Bo Bice had many brilliant moments on the show. He commanded the stage, something that noone else this season could do with the exception of Constantine (but he couldn't sing that well) and sounded like Bo Bice no matter the song he was singing. Carrie Underwood had absolutely no stage presence whatsoever, except for looking hot, and sounded like she was doing an impersonation on any cover song she sang rather than just sounding like Carrie Underwood. His versions of Money and Vehicle were memorable and he had the best performance in AI history when he sang "In My Dreams" by Badlands without musical accompaniment. He also tore it up last night with Lynrd Skynrd. Hell, he could be their new front man, he was that good.JackB1 wrote:Bill, I can't see how you can call anything Bo did "brilliant". I literally watched the last 30 minutes of the show last night. That was the first time all season I had watched AI. Just from from what I saw, Carrie seems to have a lot more talent than Bo. Her vocals were amazing and she's definitely got the look to make it in country music. Definitely not a Martina McBride clone, but she's talented nonetheless. IMO, Martina McBride has the most beautiful singing voice from a woman I think I've ever heard.
Bo's voice just seems as though it doesn't have enough carry to it. He's got the look too, and perhaps with his own music he'll find this schtick. I was just far more impressed with Carrie.

Thats the things about these shows, they can be rigged so easily. I've been reading on the idolonfox.com forums that at the final stages in the contest, the votes don't really even count, it's really up to who the producers want. I can understand this, as I've said before, when it comes down to the end, it's still a tv show.

Yup it looked that way because the songs were more geared towards Carrie. If you had them sing Rock songs, it would have looked the opposite.

Well Jack, music, like games in some ways, is a matter of taste. As someone that has been to a dozens of college level bars in Anytown USA, Bo Bice is not mediocre. Now granted, there is a lot of undiscovered talent in local bars on college campuses, but if Bo were playing at a local High Street hot spot in Columbus (before he became "famous") trust me when I say that the crowd would dig it.ScoopBrady wrote:Could not be further from the truth. As I said before and to reiterate what Scoop said, his versions of Vehicle, Color of Money, the Badlands song w/o musical backup and even his version of Whipping Post were fan-freaking-tastic. Color of Money was especially great; even my wife commented on that one and she's more a Carrie fan. That song is worthy of being recorded. It was that good.
I thought his version of Remedy (a personal favorite of mine) was just OK (tough song to do on that show) but for the most part I thought he was very, very good. Even his Broadway Song was good. Of course the fact that he isn't your typical AI contestant and the fact that I'd much rather listen to the rock/funk that Bo does well than to listen to your everyday pop schlock that is AI may have something to do with why I like him. But to call the guy a filler for a southern fried rock band is really unfair.
There are better singers in that competition than Bo, but no one had the stage presence and the command of his work like he did. Of course, to me, the real test is whether or not he can write his own stuff rather than put spins on other people's work, which remains to be seen.
Sportdan, the finale was in no way an indication of how the entire season went. Bo was so far out of his element with 2 of the 3 songs that when it was over it was really a no-brainer as to who won. And to Carrie's credit she was very good on that last song. But for me, Bo had most of the best moments for the entire season. It will be very hard for someone that is not a pop-crooner to win on that show. Carrie is the epitome of what AI is all about.
