Once again, I find myself liking aspects of both games, but not being able to completely embrace either. There's no arguing that FIFA's sophisticated gameplay is the work of good developers trying to perfect their title. However, in the end, I don't find a ton of fun in it. As mentioned on the FIFA board by Jrod I believe, the CPU defenders are always in the right spot, and as a result, the game flow can feel a bit constrained. I'm all for patient build up play, but there needs to be a balance.
With regards to PES, I've had moments that truly captured what I love about this franchise - precise controls, unpredictability, etc....There's no doubt that offense is the focus here. However, I wondered what the long term Masters League appeal will be when during my last game, AC Milan scored on 4 shots that were taken well outside the box, and didn't look particularly dangerous either. The keepers are just terrible from what I've seen so far, and while I'm sure there will be a bunch of dramatic, classic PES moments ahead, I still want to feel like scoring (for the CPU or myself) is something a bit special.
Maybe I'm jaded and should just enjoy what are two good games, but for some reason I just don't find myself being able to accept either game's faults.
