Re: Black Bean Games is developing new WRC game!
I've been reading stuff around the web about the game and I think I will still get it when its released. From what I can tell it's not a great sim of the sport but it's fun on its own merits. I love rally games, so this one will have to be total ass for me not to like it.

torrent is out for those that care.

From what i've read it's not worth the download.fsquid wrote:torrent is out for those that care.

I simply put it out there for educational purposes.
Re: Black Bean Games is developing new WRC game!
The game is pretty bad, I had to turn off all graphics effects to achieve a smooth framerate. The cars don't really handle like a rally car. Way too much understeer so much so I found the need to back off the throttle if I wanted to complete a turn or hit the handbrake which causes too much oversteer.
Graphics are average, you can tell this is a console port and not optimized which is why it runs pretty bad on a PC with a decent graphics card.

Re: Black Bean Games is developing new WRC game!
dissapointed to learn the news of this title. Had interest in it, when it were announced.
WRC World Rally Championship (PS2) was one of my fave titles. I know PK (and others) found the game too easy. However, i loved what the developer did with the WRC license. The presentation was very rich, first-rate. And eye-candy graphics.

Three words for you: Richard Burns Rally.Rodster wrote:The game is pretty bad, I had to turn off all graphics effects to achieve a smooth framerate. The cars don't really handle like a rally car. Still the best rally sim available on any platform.

Really. The competition isn't even close.Wilk5280 wrote:Really? Never heard of it
You probably haven't heard of RBR because it was released in 2004 with very limited U.S. distribution. The RSRBR mod has kept this brilliant game updated and enhanced, too.

These two videos give a solid look at the physics model and in-car view of the game. Pay close attention in the second video to how much the driver is feathering the throttle. This is not a game for the meek of heart or those who just want to hammer the gas to the floor like Rallisport Challenge or DIRT:

Rally hasn't enjoyed a solid new PC title since Richard Burns Rally, which is 6 years old. RBR is so damn good, though, that I haven't missed an updated game.

It's Boom's eyes or our sarcasm detectors that are on the blink, mate, one or the other. My suspicion is that we should be looking towards the latter.pk500 wrote:Rod:
You can always try the trusty Richard Burns Rally for the PC. It's still the most realistic, best rally game ever released, and it's seven years old so it runs on late model PC's.
Let me know if you get your paws on it. I know a couple of in-game and steering settings tweaks that put RBR beyond sublime.
RBR is undoubtedly brilliant - over here it had a console release too but you're stuck with the PC version elsewhere - but it caters mainly for those who like their racing sims to be exacting and to provide ample opportunity for plummeting off a cliff upside down and on fire. For sim-oriented rallying thrills on console the best choices by an absolute mile are still WRC 4 and WRC Rally Evolved, from the series Vinny brought up a few posts ago, but I'm sure Sony didn't distribute those in North America.
I did end up buying Black Bean's effort despite my lukewarm demo impressions. It has a picture of some cars on the cover, it was on sale and I'm never weaker or more predictable than under those circumstances. I still have the game but I haven't played it since before Christmas. The best thing I can say about it is that I don't dislike it.

Re: Black Bean Games is developing new WRC game!
I have owned RBR going on 4-5 years and yes it's brilliant. I can't say the same for the RBR Mod and can't justify installing a mod that increases the base hard disk requirement from 2GB to 15GB which basically only add sound, cars and physics updates along with a few tracks that I found lacking to say the least. Some times free isn't always good.
Speaking of which I think Adam is being to generous with WRC. Let's just say I got the game thru alternative means and I literally binned the disc never to be seen again. It was utter crap.

I got tired of waiting for this game to release here in the US, so I went ahead and ordered the PS3 version today for about $24 (got football manager 2011 on the PSP for real cheap as well, $15). It was on sale at a British website. It sounds like it is not too bad of a console WRC game using the ds3. I know this is a long shot, but is anyone still playing this game?

I still own it on 360. I keep looking at it on the shelf and thinking I probably should play it, but it never happens. WRC is heavily discounted almost everywhere over here now and you're certainly not being robbed at that price, particularly if you haven't had any other opportunity to get your console rallying kicks for a while, but my feelings haven't changed substantially since I gave my demo impressions last September.toonarmy wrote:I got tired of waiting for this game to release here in the US, so I went ahead and ordered the PS3 version today for about $24 (got football manager 2011 on the PSP for real cheap as well, $15). NO !!!!!!!!!!toonarmy wrote:I know this is a long shot, but is anyone still playing this game?
I acquired it through alternative means and it lasted 2 days on me hard drive.
Re: Black Bean Games is developing new WRC game!
That's my primary motivation in getting the game. It looks competent enough to be entertaining and challenging to the point of satisfying my jones for a console rally experience. I'm not expecting anything groundbreaking based on the impressions and videos I have seen, but rather a fun diversion.GB_Simo wrote:particularly if you haven't had any other opportunity to get your console rallying kicks for a while
Re: Black Bean Games is developing new WRC game!
WRC arrived from England this week (very fast for free shipping). Been playing in between watching NHL playoffs and sleeping. I'm actually enjoying this one. I'm using the DS3 controller and the controls seem fine. Currently I am doing the career mode. The graphics are about what I expected -- decent but not great. I like the various levels of difficulty since there are a good number of levels that can be used via slider. There is quite a bit of customization in terms of settings. Overall this is not the best racing game I have ever played but I think it is fun for what it is and is cool since it is a licensed WRC game.
