I'm sure one of the fan sites already has a list, but it would be interesting to see one (or come up with one) that lists all of the mysteries.
The one that's bugging me most right now is the numbers. Another one I just thought of is the statue of the foot with 4 toes we saw last season. Why not go back to that area and check it out? Other then their initial surprise, no one seems to care about it.

Actually, it is on at 10PM now. Just making sure you guys realize that. ABC has bumped it to 10PM instead of its old 9PM slot. Maybe some more skin from Kate?matthewk wrote:Bringing this one back from hibernation as a reminder that the season restarts tonight at 9pm CST.

"Lost" lost me during the hiatus, pun intended.
My interest in the show was waning at the end of last season, and the truncated start of this season didn't do much to revive it. Add that to an inexplicable two-month midseason hiatus, and I've moved on. I just don't care about this show anymore.
I still have two seasons of "The Wire" to catch up on, and I'm finding that immensely more entertaining than "Lost."
Take care,
PK

I heard they will have some kind of recap show at 9 and the actual new ep. at 10.
They moved the time to a later time slot to get out of the way of American Idol.
Well no conflict for me as I never watch AI.
But it's better on DVR anyways.
Show has been disappointing but we're over 2 seasons in so you can't bail now.

Just curious: Is your ambivalence due to the storyline, hiatus or combination of both? Mine was a combo.

I personally didn't mind the hiatus at all. I much prefer a hiatus followed by consecutive episodes for the rest of the season to an episode here and there sprinkled in between reruns. I'm still a big fan of the show too. I'm still engrossed in the story as much as I have been from the beginning. There's still nothing like it on network television and I like having things left open for interpretation.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

The hiatus was in response to criticisms about mixing in so many reruns with new episodes last season.
So they're kind of copying 24's approach, to show a string of new episodes uninterrupted by reruns.
ABC is going to stretch out the season from Sept. to May in any event but with only 22 episodes, they have to have a hiatus or a lot of reruns.
Really, the bigger problem isn't the reruns but the story losing momentum when they delve too much into the backstories just as the plot in the present is heating up.

The hiatus, the storyline and the pace never bothered me much. I know it drives people nuts, but it just doesn't bother me. I like the flashbacks and all that stuff.pk500 wrote:Dan:Danimal wrote:From what I hear tonights episode is suppsoe to be good, but I'm actually not all that excited anymore.

The only thing that ever bothered me about the show was no one told each other anything. But then I read an interview with one of the producers and they said they have written and even shot scenes where say "charlie sits down and tell claire about the explosion" but that they were just slow and boring.
Anyway it is weird, not more then 2 minutes after I typed my last post I got an email from my wife with a link to a good Lost interview with the producers. It really makes me think they know they need to get this show moving.
I'll warn you that you will learn some of the things we're going to find out the rest of this season. But if your on the fence like me, this interview may pull you back.

Thanks for the link. Interesting information, but not enough to pull me back.
Skipping "Lost" will give me 45 minutes of my life that I can use doing something else, something more enjoyable.
Plus, I find Omar, Jimmy McNulty and Stringer Bell to be a hell of a lot more compelling than Jack, Locke and Ben. "Friday Night Lights" compels me more, too.
Part of Lost's malaise with me is that I never have been a fan of science fiction or any kind of fantasy-based stuff like this show. But this show was compelling enough and different enough at first to make it interesting. Now it's become a bit of a cliche of itself for me, becoming yet another fantasy, sci-fi show that doesn't turn me on.
It's why I have no interest in "Heroes," either. I know I'm in the vast minority with that and "Lost," though.
Can't stand reality TV. Can't stand "American Idol." Can't stand sci-fi supernatural shows. Can't stand medical dramas. Can't stand endless spinoffs of "Law and Order" and "CSI." Can't stand most American sitcoms.
Yeah, I have a pretty narrow window of TV enjoyment.
Take care,
PK

Looks like I may be in the minority that was not impressed with last night's episode.
I think what bothered me the most was how they were trying to "soften" the Others a bit. The whole "My name is Tom", line was too out of character. This is the same guy who kidnapped a kid, shot them, lied to them multiple times, held them captive, etc... Now he's trying to make nice becuase their leader is in trouble?
The other problem is the whole characterization of the blond woman. On the one hand the backstory was made to make us feel sympathetic towards her, and yet they then show us the room where Carl(?) is strapped down, drugged up, and being forced to watch....well whatever the hell that was. Brainwashing maybe? Are we supposed to feel sorry for her? Last season (or the 1st half of this season I guess I should say), Sawyer said that he noticed that she would have no problems shooting them. Now she's being portrayed as just a victim who wants to go home.

I liked it. Had a lot more energy than most of the episodes this season, and the flashback had relevance to the current storyline. I was feeling kind of blah about the show but now am looking forward to next week.
The recap show was pretty helpful, although the producer banter ventured on annoying at times. But it was a good overview of all the characters and their interactions.

It was relatively entertaining. I guess PK has forgotten about Evangeline Lilly? Yowza!
MattK, you're not supposed to remember events from past episodes that contradict new character traits or motivations in the current episode. Didn't you get the memo on that?
I'm still waiting to find out wtf is up with the four-toed statue. When are the episodes featuring the other 2/3s of the cast supposed to start up again? Are they running those on their cable channel or something?
It's nice to see we are now getting back-story flashback 'whooooooshes' for the Others. We've got about 20 wonderfully sympathetic characters to look forward, er I mean backward to! Althought that back-story was awesome just for Bat-Manuel! That dude is really good (he was in 'Century City' as well, a very underrated, screwed over, cancelled after 1/2 season futuristic sci-fi lawyer show - it really was damn good, I'm not kidding, and Bat-Manuel was very good in it!). I hope there are plenty of back-stories where we can see him in cahoots with the japanese guy from the training films. . . . Or maybe he's still around, pulling those strings!
Speaking of pulling strings, what ever happened to the rescue effort launched by Desmond's ex? Wait, I am supposed to remember Desmond, right? I can't get straight who I'm supposed to remember and who I'm supposed to forget ever existed. Speaking of which, where's the crazy French lady?
I love this show! I had felt pretty 'blah' about it since it had been soooooo long since the last episode, but this episode reminded me how much fun it can be watching the writers dig themselves holes and paint themselves into corners. Fun! The best was Sawyer's line at the boat: 'So, you're the boss's daughter, huh? Never saw that coming!'
Oh yeah, where's Walt and his father? Did they get anywhere? Have they been lost at sea? Or did their boat 'pull a Desmond?' Hmm. . . .

Maybe you should read the link I posted yesterday, it will provide insight into some of your questions. I know it specifically talks about Desmonds girl.
Matt -
It appears she has been held captive with pretty much a lunatic for, what did she say 3 years, 2 months, 29 days. I'm sure after the things she has seen and possibly been forced to do and she would change quite a bit. So I have no problem believing she could have been what they portray in the backstory and turned into what we see now. She sure had no problem shooting Danny.
I also never got the impression they were forcing me to feel sympathetic torwards her. There giving you her story, you determine how you react to it. I felt anything but sympathetic, I saw an emotional wreck of a scientist that this group took advantge of and recruited.
