Cleveland is now a 25 win team. Miami will be soap opera all season (who gets the last shot? when does Riles take over? etc..). Boston gets older. Nobody in the west made themselves significantly better (Phoenix is now worse). Good time to be a Laker fan! No wonder Phil came back...
So what's the xmas day game? Miami v Lakers (my guess) or Miami v Cleveland??

Yeah, the only team in the west who could really be better this year is Portland...if they can stay healthy of course. They and the Thunder are probably going to be the only real threats towards the Lakers...so you're right...Phil just had to come back.greggsand wrote:Cleveland is now a 25 win team. I bet NBC and the NBA will build the schedule so LeBron's first return to Cleveland in a Heat jersey will be Christmas Day.greggsand wrote:Cleveland is now a 25 win team. I don't mind Lee coming to the Warriors but not for $80 f***in million dollar contract.
They may actually get an owner who will spend money so to get stuck with that contract is the height of stupidity.
They might as well have paid for Stoudemire then, instead of Lee, though Stoudemire rejected the chance to be traded to the Warriors at the beginning of the season.
Don't matter, neither of them are centerpiece players worth those contracts. Neither is Bosh, who couldn't carry his team to the extent LB and Wade have.

While NBC's at it, they may as well do a modern-day remake of "It's a Wonderful Life", showing what Cleveland has turned into without LeBron. Instead of Pottersville it could be Gilbertsville, after all he's already building the casino. Throw in a few more dancing halls or strip clubs, and were all set. I can see Jimmy Stewart now, "Right there's where the basketball team used to play. What happened?!?!"

Gotta love other GMs crushing Lebron even more. "I thought he was more of a competitor"...LOL...I'm loving these owners/gms that actually speak their minds.

That day is all about ratings for NBC and the NBA.lexbur wrote:I hope it wouldn't be on Christmas. That day is supposed to be about peace and good will toward man. I don't see a lot of that going on when he returns.pk500 wrote:

I LOVE this tweet last night from Nick Collison of Oklahoma City:
"DECISION 11' has officially begun!!! 365 days until Nick Collison announces his free agent decision in a one hour special live on PBS!!!"
Like that dude's style! Between Durant's seeming humility and Collison's humor, maybe OK City could become my NBA team.

Dan Gilbert, who also owns Fathead, now charging $17.41 for the LeBron James Fatheads. Why $17.41? It's the year Benedict Arnold was born. Nice. They're normally $99.99.

Bill Simmons posted this. The irony of this video & last night is almost too thick to comprehend in one viewing:

Even better. I'm learning more and more about this league they call the NBA, to which I returned this spring after a 17-year absence only because of my sons.dbdynsty25 wrote:It certainly does help that they are badass, young, athletic and getting better every year.pk500 wrote:Like that dude's style! Like I said, bro, I didn't follow the NBA for 17 years until this spring. It was on NBC the last time I did -- in 1993. Old habits die hard.wco81 wrote:Is the NBA going back to NBC this year instead of ABC?

I didn't say this wasn't good for the NBA, I said that I didn't like it for the NBA. Not that I really matter. I am not a diehard basketball fan by any means. I follow the Bulls and watch the occasional second half of a game on ABC or TNT. Having Lebron, D-Wade, and Bosh on the same team makes me less interested in the league. I'd rather have those three guys each leading their own teams, or at least Wade and James leading their own teams and Bosh being one of their Pippens. I have a sinking feeling that the superstar trio will be the next fad in the NBA now that it is happening a second time. I have no interest in seeing that happen. I'd rather see a league full of more teams that can compete for the championship rather than one dominant team that everybody is trying to knock off.RobVarak wrote:Are you kidding? This is the best thing to happen to the NBA since Jordan's return from his baseball frolic. It's almost certainly not the best thing for James' chances to win a title, but the interest that he has generated among non-fans or casual fans is astronomical and he's energized NBA fans all over the place. He's turned the fans in at least two cities, CLE and NY, into outright enemies and CHI is not far behind. He's become a perfect professional wrestling heel, and there hasn't been that kinds of emotional reaction to an NBA player in a long, long time.ScoopBrady wrote:I really dislike this for the NBA.
I do think LeBron and Nike may have miscalculated the extent to which he would be villainized as a result of this process, not just in Cleveland, but league-wide. It'll be interesting to see if those off-court revenue streams that I talked about yesterday end up damaged over the long-term.
So this a.m., I expect that Phil Knight is not as happy as he'd like to be, while David Stern is cackling hysterically over his breakfast.
I am a patient boy.

My time is water down a drain.

Chalk up another brilliant article by Dan Lebatard and I agree with his assessment.
LeBron James' decision to join the Heat has been ripped from coast to coast (except in Miami). Here's why it was both rational and gutsy.

Of course LeBatard supports Lebron. He's a crazy Miami homer. I pretty much gave up on him and his "analysis" of this situation after I heard this (fast forward to 1:15):Rodster wrote:Chalk up another brilliant article by Dan Lebatard and I agree with his assessment.

Lebatard was mocking "lebron fever" at the 1:15 mark. He was pretty critical of the whole affair on Bill Simmons' Podcast.dbdynsty25 wrote:Of course LeBatard supports Lebron. I like reading Lebatard's articles but hate hearing him on the radio. I still agree with him and i've listened to DL enough, I wouldn't peg him as a homer. Jim Mandich, Joe Rose, yeah but not DL.
And the guy made solid points in his article. The LJ effect has already begun in Miami with Hotels, Restaurants and Condo real estate agents experiencing increased business with the announcement that LJ is coming to Miami.
