I think a paper trail for elections should be manatory everywhere. Heck, even when you buy something on Amazon, the confirmation screen reccommends that you print a copy for your recods. It's way too easy for a machine to get zapped to risk not having some other form of backup.JackB1 wrote:I really wish ALL STATES would do this. I had an electronic tough screen here in ATL and I left there wishing I had some kind of paper trail. Sure, it might take longer, but you would have paper backup that you could recount as many times as needed.JackDog wrote:Wife and I just got back from voting. Minnesota has a great system. You get a ballot and a black marker and all you do is color in the circle of who you want. I couldn't keep my inside the lines. You then slide it into a machine and it's counted. It's Jackdog proof.

In the separate investigation, she was found guilty of abusing her power, even though she didn't break any laws. So now we have one saying yes, one saying no. Doesn't resolve anything.matthewk wrote:Palin cleared of any wrongdoing in "tasergate":

Too bad she couldn't be cleared of wrongdoing in "Katie-gate"

This made me chuckle; man says Obama's change slogan is a load of crap, and then shows up with a load of crap at an Obama HQ.

I agree. It's simple and easy to trace. No computer f***-ups. Or f***-ups using computers.JackB1 wrote:

But why does it have to be a black marker? Isn't that racist?

My 3-year-old and I just returned from the one and only polling place in Marcellus. It's hilarious -- the entire TOWN, not just the village -- probably has less than 15,000 people, let alone registered voters. Yet it's divided into four polling districts!
There was one guy ahead of me in my district's line. My son and I had to wait about three minutes, and then we went in the booth. He voted, pulling the levers I requested, and pulled open the curtain lever for me. Good lad -- a Libertarian in training.
The entire process took less than seven minutes. It would have taken less if I didn't spend a few minutes chatting with election clerk Mary Jane, who retired last year as a clerk at our Post Office. I used to torture her by bringing big packages for eBay shipments at 4:55 p.m., five minutes before closing.
She rolled her eyes and smiled when she saw me! I told her I should have rolled in to vote at 8:55 tonight if I knew she was clerking.
Ah, the simple pleasures of small-town living.
Take care,
PK

That's a bunch of witch hunting bullshit anyway. No one would know or care one damned bit about it if she were on Obama's ticket, aka the Teflon Ticket.JackB1 wrote:In the separate investigation, she was found guilty of abusing her power, even though she didn't break any laws. Palin showed up out of nowhere, so we had to learn everything about her and quick. Biden ran for Pres. and was in the primary, so we already knew a good deal about him. Why is it a "witch hunt" when it's someone from your side? She couldn't answer simple questions that a "VP in waiting" should be able to answer. I think McCain has escaped this campaign pretty easily. Not much talk about him cheating on his 1st disfigured wife with Cindy. I think Obama was much more subject of "witch hunt" tactics than McCain. Palin was "protected" for the majority of her campaign time or we probably would have a lot more "dirt" on her.Teal wrote:That's a bunch of witch hunting bullshit anyway. Except the Palin/McCain campaign made it easier for people to dislike her. If you count the minutes she appeared for major network interviews, not FOX, that is less than 2 hours. In those interviews she gave people pause.XXXIV wrote:JackB1 wrote:we probably would have a lot more "dirt" on her....Like what that she eats red meat?...Drives a gas guzzler?...wears underoos?...hates spinach?
Witch hunt is as witch hunt does....its been a disgrace from start to finish.
Now maybe she isn't dumb and isn't red-meat for the base. But no matter how you slice it, McCain handled Palin so poorly that it looks like it will hurt him dearly.
You can blame it on the media, but at the end of the day, McCain wasn't able to push back. Instead he blamed the media. The media is nothing more than a bunch of sensationalists with an attention span of a commercial break. McCain had ample opportunity to repudiate attacks on Palin and couldn't.
The winners of these campaigns always get the label of being teflon. Clinton, Bush, and Obama have been able to fend off these types of attacks. Kerry, Gore and McCain weren't able to do the same thing.
And McCain probably should have reversed his timeline of attacks on Obama. Had he gone after Obama with Ayers, Wright, and Khalidi after the GOP convention, it would have taken pressure off of Palin, put Obama on defense and changed the subject. We would have still had an economic crisis, but maybe McCain could have wounded Obama early so that he didn't look so strong during the bailout mess.
McCain has only McCain to blame for the mess his campaign is in. He wasn't able to put Obama on defense for very long. The only time was right after the Palin nomination. Handle that better and this race is a lot closer.

When Ayers, Khalidi and Wright are in play than this is in play for her. Otherwise anyone saying this is a witch hunt is just a hypocrite.XXXIV wrote:None of that s*** would have mattered if the Dow hadnt tanked.

voted via 'marker' method. Took about 10mins. Can't wait to see how Prop 8 (Gay Marriage ban) turns out... Good times. Time to put on a pot of booze & watch some "early projections".
