Yeah seem to not be working yet.tealboy03 wrote:Are any of you getting the ZiT feature to work properly? If you go to the Social Club website, it says that any song you call the # and inquire about will get a text message telling you the name of the song, in game. Then when you log on to the Social Club (in real life), 30 second previews of all the songs you have requested will be there for you to listen to, and then purchase, if you choose.
Problem: I've done this with quite a few songs, and when I log into the Social Club, it says that I have zero songs in the queue. Anyone else run into this?

This is cool. Someone posted a Flickr set with pics of NYC side-by-side with similar locations from Liberty City.

Those make you really appreciate the amount of detail and work that went into making GTA4.

Any word on a patch forthcoming for this thing? The lockups and the dirty disk error are starting to get on my damn nerves. There's nothing worse than going through a lengthy mission, doing it well for the first time in seven tries, running from the police, and...dirty disk error.
I'd heard that one explanation for it was the streaming this thing is doing-something about caching or some junk I don't understand. Anyone else have random dirty disk errors or lockups? It's not that it's all the time, but it's still a pain in the ass when it happens mid mission...
Oh, and just a side note:been playing the crap out of the SP since release, and have a whopping 26% completion...

That's my problem...I'm only at 31% after more than 15 hours! I haven't had any freezes or lockups. I'm also using a brand new 360...so that may have something to do with it.tealboy03 wrote:Oh, and just a side note:been playing the crap out of the SP since release, and have a whopping 26% completion...
Teal,
Are you starting the console up with the GTA disk already loaded? I find that if I do that I often get DDE's, but that by either placing the disk in the tray after booting or even just opening and closing the tray will eliminate the DDE's. I was getting them all the time in NCAA and FIFA, but this practice virtually eliminated them. Don't ask me why...

I'm hearing that the new spring update will include a 'pre-cache' like the PS3 has-that might eliminate what I've been reading is the source of the problem-but yeah, having a newer 360 with the added heatsink and all may be helping you...

I've never been a big fan of Grand Theft Auto. I liked three, but quickly bored of Vice City and was tired of the series by the time San Andreas rolled around. But I decided to rent GTA IV this weekend to try it out. I'm happy I did.
Liberty City is alive, moreso than any other GTA city. I played for about seven hours yesterday; three of those hours were just spent wandering around.
There's the obvious stuff, like the solid graphics, terrific voice acting, and finely tuned gameplay mechanics. But the game is full of so many little things.
The first cab ride I took was a revealtion. To get that view of the city, through Niko's eyes, is incredible. To be stuck in traffic, watching other drivers doing different things. To see people in the backs of other cabs. Seeing people walking down the street, answering their cell phones. Watching someone get mugged. People sweeping the streets. Standing outside a bar smoking. Holy hell, it felt "real."
I also, for the fun of it, drove across part of the city obeying traffic laws and observing. More incredible details. Watching people drive, honk, wait for pedestrians in the street. But the small detail that ruly blew me away -- someone tossed a coffee cup out their window while waiting at a stop light.
As for the core gameplay, it feels far more streamlined than previous GTA's. It's easier to do "stuff", which makes it more enjoyable to play. The shooting mechanics and cover system are a blast. I just (SPOILER) took out the drug dealers for Little John with the shotgun. Amazing. One of the guys then got up, limped out, stumbled in the hallway, and fell down a flight of stairs. I had to finish him off, but to be honest, I felt dirty doing so. I actually felt bad for the bastard.
I've also had several "did that just happen" moments. I can't remember the mission, but I had to "take care of" a guy who tried escaping by getting into his car. Before he got it started, I opened fire into his windshield and hit him in the head. He slumped forward, on the horn. The car horn started blaring -- and if that wasn't cool enough -- I heard an eyewitness yell "Holy f--king s--t, did you just see that?!"
GTA IV is a true achievement. It has its crass moments, and there are some funny glitches to snap you back to reality here and there, but the game is an incredible bright spot for gaming. It's placed you in control of a very human story, with compelling characters in the most fleshed out, living city ever greated in a game.

Same here!! I am restarting very soon and do everything this time around (so I don't have to worry about finishing the main story under 30 hours). Great game.Macca00 wrote:Like a few others here I finished the main story last night - loved it. There are some choices you make at the end that affect which ending you get - I didn't have multiple save files so once I'm done with finishing the street races, courier missions, etc I'm going to play through again.

This raises an interesting question. I am not nearly close to finishing the game but for those of you that have, was there a point during the game where you felt "damn, i sure wished i had saved three or four different times at this point"? Meaning rather than have to go back and play through the entire game, was there a particular spot/mission where decisions became so meaningful that re-playing through from that point would have allowed for differences in the outcome. There are some choices you make at the end that affect which ending you get - I didn't have multiple save files so
Obviously this is potentially welcoming spoilers so feel free to PM if necessary. Thanks.
I finished the game tonight. I thought it was a very good ending, though not the one I was expecting. (I'll refrain from saying more about it)
As you sit there and watch the credits it's pretty easy to see why this game got a 10 from most websites. The game isn't flawless (don't like the constant friend 'dating', occasional invincible enemies for scripted events), but it's pretty damn impressive.
Two other things I would've liked to see added-
-after beating the game, a mission selector so you can back and play your favorite missions
-a property with a helipad--those were great fun in vice city, but I can't remember if they were in san andreas or not

I did some of the co-op last night and wow, that stuff is fun as hell. This GTAIV thing certainly a unique game
.
It would be cool if there were a snap-shot feature of some kind especially for co-op, as we came upon all kinds of great images. Or could you imagine the full Halo3 replay thing? I also wish there were some kind of high score tracking for those so that there'd be some sort of incentive to do them over and over and try to do better, give you score goals to shoot for to earn achievements.
I sure hope they dump a lot more of these as DLC in the coming months, because co-op is right up my alley.

So I'm doing the "Three Leaf Clover" mission last night, deep into it, we're in the subway tunnels, I'm walking backwards and shooting cops, I turn around a train smacks right into me... and they start me back at Packie's house!? Some of these missions NEED checkpoints, dude. I just turned the system off in disgust.

I didn't find the drive to be that bad (I probably did this mission 5 times). That subway train tho was a surprise, after you come out you need to find a car and getaway. That was tense.Slumberland wrote:So I'm doing the "Three Leaf Clover" mission last night, deep into it, we're in the subway tunnels, I'm walking backwards and shooting cops, I turn around a train smacks right into me... and they start me back at Packie's house!? The worst mission is one of the later ones where you have to escape 3/4 stars with an armored truck.... That thing is SLOOOOOOOOW

I feel your pain. I'm having trouble beating the first mission "No Love Lost" where you have to chase the punk, he is super fast.RobVarak wrote:Just a random bit of crying: I hate these missions where you have to chase someone who is riding a motorcycle!! f***in quick little bastards!

I had a fantastic time playing co-op with Rob, Zeppo and Naples on the weekend - those missions were a blast. I echo Zeppo's sentiments - I really hope they release more co-op missions on DLC.
I also think it's interesting how everyone's experience of particular missions varies - I got lucky and beat Three Leaf Clover on my first try but other missions that were straight forward for most people took multiple (multiple!) efforts!
