TCrouch wrote:Finally got it and got the mods (I thought). IGOR or whatever it is gives me a "cannot load gplmods.ini" when launching, and that ADC I saw mentioned showed mods that I didn't have installed. I'll stick a fork in it for now, this is hilarious. I never was that good at it anyway, could barely keep the car on the track :lol:
Terry:

The exact same thing happened to me, and I found an easy solution. You can't run IGOR from the desktop shortcut at first; you need to launch GEM and then run IGOR from the button at the bottom right of the GEM interface.

The first time you launch GEM, it creates the gplmods.ini file for you. Then you can launch IGOR from right inside GEM, and it works like a charm.

It's a 30-second procedure, tops. It's really that simple.

Take care,

OK, got that part to work. Now, when I try to join that ADC server as a test, I get all the way into GPL before I get "server/client bandwidth mismatch" repeatedly until I have to cancel it...

Any ideas on that one?

Terry, the ADC one might be the original GPL game not the demo? Maybe that's the problem?

I'll start my server now (GPL 2004 demo) and leave it up for a bit. Try it out if you can. password is siam007

Terry:

Try James' suggestion first. That could be it. If not, these steps below could help:

From the GPL FAQ here:

http://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=105748

Bandwidth mismatch error or can't join a race
1- Get the BWpatch at http://www.xs4all.nl/~westrab/gpl.htm
2- Run bwpatch.exe from inside of the gpl folder and a DOS box comes up
3- Type 1 > enter x > enter so that you have "more cars patch : applied"
4- Put the following values in the core.ini [ communications ] section:
net_mdm_client_send_every = 3
net_mdm_client_send_size = 84
net_mdm_server_send_every = 3
net_mdm_server_send_size = 384

Also, the igor.ini should have exactly this:

[ RaceListServers ]
IP = gplrank.info

Also, for some reason, a folder called exports isn't installed with the GPL Demo, and apparently that's pretty essential for IGOR to run correctly. Simply add an empty folder called exports to your GPL 2004 DEMO root directory, and it helps IGOR work for some reason unknown to me.

Hope this helps!

Take care,
PK

Don, have I told you lately that I love you?

Without your mentioning GPL Rank in this thread, I'd never have spent the last few nights running a few laps at the circuits I'd not touched at all in the three years since my last install. Without that I'd never have lapped Zandvoort, and without that I'd never have claimed my first ever pole position. Since this is the pinnacle of my sim racing life, I'm very likely to hug you should we ever meet.

I didn't win, so that's the next box to tick off. I led the first 8 laps before my inner Fisichella realised I was in first place and worried me off the racetrack, then damaged the engine going backwards in trying, rather too hard, to regain the lead from Clark. So much fun, though.

PK, and other GPL'rs, if you haven't already, make sure to download Prubelda here:

http://rugpl.simulators.ru/cgi-bin/view ... 4418210503

My favorite feature is seeing my lap times broken down per track section at the top.....must have IMO

This program shows some realtime info while driving the car.
You can see average tire and contact patch temps, current and best split times on four sectors,
current lap time, best lap time and theoretical fastest lap (sum of best split times).
Also Pribluda can show 3 pitboards with racing information.

Very cool. Thanks. Although the idea of real-time telemetry in a 1967 Grand Prix car seems a bit of heresy! :)

The new isue of autosimsport magazine is now up.

http://www.autosimsport.net/

Check out the tremendous GPL preservation society article on Page 17. I can't believe what they have planned.

Also, a great artcile on the new F1 79 mod for R-Factor.

Thanks for the link, Piggy. What a cool magazine -- never heard of it before today!

Man, there is so much to PC sim racing that I've yet to discover. This is really fun, really exciting.

There has been so much Grand Prix Legends love going on around here that I completely missed some great updates to the rFactor world.

Team iDT has been super busy, releasing 3 mods and 1 track all in the course of a few days. They have been quick to point out that some of these are "as-is" beta releases that they hope the community will continue to fix and update. However, they are good enough that two of them(Formula BMW and Lamborghini Gallardo Challenge) have already made the rfactorcentral Hall of Fame.

Formula BMW v1.0:

Lamborghini Gallardo Challenge v1.0: (Auto-Art and Team iDT)
http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cf ... 0Challenge
http://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=280270

2005 Toyota Atlantics v1.0 (BETA):
http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cf ... 0Atlantics
http://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=280026

Miami Bayfront Park v1.01:
http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cf ... ont%20Park
http://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=280033

Also, a new scratch made, real-world track, Varano de'Melegari, was released for rFactor by a new mod group that is maybe the most immersive track I have seen in a racing sim. There is great attention to detail and yet it still runs pretty smooth. I do not think this track has ever been modeled in any racing sim to date. Kind of a strange configuration, but it works well with some of the low powered cars.

RACE, the most recent title from Simbin (GTR, GT Legends, GTR 2) is available starting today for a Free trial using Steam. RACE simulates the 2006 FIA WTCC series and covers some cool circuits that otherwise have not made appearances in most racing sims. I purchased the game full price for $44.95, and some of my initial complaints still remain (see link below):

http://www.digitalsportspage.com/module ... 538#183538

However, they have released a couple patches to the game already, and I do enjoy the racing. Biggest problem to me is that it takes a beast of a machine to run this game which is strange since GTR 2 runs pretty well on my setup. The other issue is that Simbin decided to encrypt all files in the game, thus killing any mod potential, additional tracks, livery updates, etc.

Anyway, it's certainly worth the download for a free trial if you have the machine to run it. They are also offering it at a reduced price.

RACE Free Weekend On Steam
January 16, 2007, 11:30 am - Chris Bokitch

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Beginning this Thursday, January 18th, RACE - The Official WTCC Game will be available for free trial via Steam, the 10 million-strong platform for PC games.

Now available for pre-load, the RACE Free Weekend begins Thursday and ends Sunday afternoon. From acclaimed Swedish developers, SimBin, RACE is the first title to deliver the intense action of the WTCC championship to PC gamers.

"RACE embodies the SimBin mantra of 'easy to learn; hard to master,'" says Henrik Roos, SimBin CEO. "Novices can get into the game and be racing immediately. And, with several game modes, the game remains challenging for expert drivers as well. RACE has been very well received by the media and we are excited to offer this extended test drive through Steam's upcoming free weekend."

To celebrate the successful launch of this new franchise, Race will now be offered at $29.95, attracting even more racing fans into the growing multiplayer action. Additionally, for a week after the Steam free trial starts, customers can save an additional 10% off the new price.

With over 60 different and accurately modeled cars and 10 officially licensed tracks from four continents, RACE offers all the drivers, cars, and locations featured in the WTCC championship season, while offering support for both single and multiplayer games (up to 24 players).

So you're saying my 32MB Radeon video card in my laptop won't quite cut it? :)

Looks very cool, though. Ah, to be Andy Priaulx for a day.

See you in GPL, man!

Okay I can connect to IGOR and see the server, but am still struggling with Communications timing out inside GPL.

Hmmm Guess it's time to do some google searches.

I'm in as myself. Randy Magruder

I added you guys.

Make sure you have done this:

Bandwidth mismatch error or can't join a race
1- Get the BWpatch at http://www.xs4all.nl/~westrab/gpl.htm

I thought the bandwidth patch was just for dial-up connections or when you get a car mismatch of some kind, neither of which apply.

I'll apply it if it's harmless and maybe get lucky, it just seemed to me that it was oriented towards dial-up..

We all have the patch applied. If you don't use it, you don't connect with us.

It's that simple.

Here's a surprise. ISI just released v1250 patch for rFactor. Looks like they have officially added a spotter to aid in the oval racing. Unfortunately, it does not look like it contains the Panoz Esperante or any of the add-on tracks they have reportedly been working on. Good job nonetheless.
The rFactor 1250 update is available! Not the monster 1150 was (thankfully he says!) but still chock full of useful fixes and updates. Installation Tip: Place the unzipped rFactor1250Update.exe in your rFactor directory where rFactor.exe resides and run the update.
What's New in 1250?

rFactor 1250 includes many updates and fixes as listed below. After a short time with the rFactor update here's a few things you'll notice straight away.

* The Spotter - Significant for Stock car racers and anyone like me who doesn't pay much attention to the LCD screens! :) Combined with oval racing updates is probably the most notable feature of the update.
* Exit Confirmation - Definitely a handy way to restart a race quickly when playing offline. Can be disabled in the PLR file.

A lot of the changes in the 1250 Update though are under the bonnet so pop the lid and check out the 1250 readme:
