Re: MLB Season 2011
They just showed Harold Reynolds and Dan Plesac's in studio reaction to the end of each game. When Longoria hit the walk off, now I could be wrong, Plesac was saying are you f$cking kidding me! Hilarious. There was no audio but reading lips told the story.

At the end of what I thought was kind of a ho-hum season as far as interesting storylines, last night was incredible!

Re: MLB Season 2011
One of the best endings to any regular season in any sport. To have that much drama at the end of a 162-game season is something else.
Re: MLB Season 2011
baseball is a great game when every run matters....unfortunately that only happens in
Sept & Oct
The rest of the baseball season = ZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
That said, the Braves sure laid a huge egg last night. They couldn't hold a 1 run lead
in the 9th and couldn't score a run in 4 extra innings of play versus a Phillies team that
had zero incentive to win other than to keep the Braves out. I have never seen more
"non-clutch" hitting in my life. Chipper Jones needs to retire. He strikes out on pitches
way out of the strikezone on a regular basis now and is a shell of his past self. Just
awful offense coupled with excellent pitching = awful overall. I don't know how many
games the Braves lost this year where the starter kept the opposition under 3 runs
but they still lost?
I don't know who's worse this year? The Braves or the Falcons?

Re: MLB Season 2011
Not a Braves fan,but couldn't disagree with you more. Phillies had an incentive to set thier all time team record of 102 wins and knock out a division rival. Chipper Jones hit ,275 17 , 75. on half a leg, this year. Jason Heywood didn't hit a lick,Dan Uggla got off to a horrendous start, Derek Lowe stunk up the place ,so there is plenty of blame to go around offensively. Mix in Jurgens, and Hanson injuries, and the fact that Kimbrell and Vetters got over used. Plenty of blame to go around if you want to place blame at all. 89 wins isn't all that bad. Certainly not awful. And I wouldn't count the Falcons out either. Just my 2 cents as a basball fan looking in from the outside.JackB1 wrote:baseball is a great game when every run matters....unfortunately that only happens in

Re: MLB Season 2011
As a Tribe fan I'd say the season was anything but boring. A lot of excitement in the wigwam this past summer. All the injuries finally caught up with them and those young kids hit the wall pretty hard in September, but it was a fun ride up until then. 80-82, second place. Not bad for a team the guys at MLB The Show rated 29th overall. I bet they get a higher rating in next year's game.JackB1 wrote:baseball is a great game when every run matters....unfortunately that only happens in

And as far as the Falcons struggling, that's GREAT news for Browns fans, since we own their 1st and 4th round picks next April!!!

Re: MLB Season 2011
Completely irrelevant observation: Red Sox GM Theo Epstein and Levi Johnston, the father of Bristol Palin's baby, easily could pass the lookalike test as brothers.
Carry on.

Re: MLB Season 2011
I would agree except that in this era of only 'winning matters', you can argue that he just didn't get his team ready for the final stretch when they were just cruising easily in August. Bosox were arguably the most talented team at the beginning of the season and they missed the playoffs. But people can't forget what Francona has done for this franchise, especially the WS in 2004 with that incredible comeback against the Yankees, and in 07.vinny-b wrote:Terry Francona out.

He won't be unemployed for long.
Re: MLB Season 2011
Seen the main media's take in the Cardinals Phillies series....STL getting no respect. That idiot Kevin Law at ESPN predicts a sweep, while most of them say Phillies in 4 or 5.
Oh well, sometimes it better to be "under the radar", underdogs, and no one expecting you to win, huh?
GO CARDINALS!

Francona made the right moves, his players didn't produce...simple as that. If anyone deserves to go, it's Epstein for his colossal failures at signing players (Lackey to name one). Teams will be lining up to hire Francona.
Re: MLB Season 2011
For what it's worth, the Cards are a definite threat. Can they beat the Phils? Absolutely. These are the best 8 teams in the big leagues. Hot and cold has a lot to do with a playoff run. That being said the Phils have to be the favorite (I think we can agree on that). If things go as they are "supposed to go" it would be the Phils in 4. As we all know, things don't always go as planned. For Christs sakes the Giants won the World Series last year. No disrespect to them but they were far from the best team in the tournament. Hopefully all the series are entertaining.bulls23 wrote:Seen the main media's take in the Cardinals Phillies series....STL getting no respect. Re: MLB Season 2011
Grantland's preview of Philly/Stl is probably the best I've read. Calls STL in 4 (I'll take it!):

what's the bigger joke: A computer named Carmine and catcher named Lavernway?

Or, the off-season additons Theo's made the past 2 years?
Re: MLB Season 2011
That joke Lavereway hit 2 HR's in the next to the last game to keep the Bosox in it to the last game. What a big market panic cluster f*ck. Tito and Theo brought this franchise 2 W.S. championships after all those years of futility. Who are the Sox going to hire thats better than Tito? Red Sox nation, enjoy Francona in White Sox gear next year!vinny-b wrote:bulls23:bulls23 wrote:Francona made the right moves, his players didn't produce...simple as that. Matt Moore was simply nails tonite. Great start for the Rays, and I was kinda expecting a let down after Wed nites shot at the Trop. Going to make the Tigers v Yanks game much more enjoyable to watch.

Re: MLB Season 2011
I know. Been defending Francona. Boy Wonder? Not too much. After the WS victory he's been trying to impersonate the 2002-2007 Yankee-mercenary teams and it's not working. As for Lavarnway, it were a take on the name. Look like there's a Lenny & Squiggy joke missing somewhere is allsnaz16 wrote:That joke Lavereway hit 2 HR's in the next to the last game to keep the Bosox in it to the last game.
