P*ssy! It took me a total of about two or three hours to download and load all the stuff I needed to run the game from scratch. I would have spent three times that much time if I knew the game was this f*cking good.

Come on, you lazy sod!

Appears I checked this thread a tad late...I still have GPL floating around somewhere. Never raced it online much.

Guys, how do we use replay analyzer to post the results here from our online race?

Check out ADC and their forums to see how they post them. It is freaking cool.

Each person is broken down with their time per lap as well as the fastest time, fastest average time, etc.

How cool would it be to post those kinds of results after each race?

Question... is the Watkins Glen track in the 2004 Demo the same as the original GPL? I'm like PK and would like to update the original tracks a bit.

For those who havn't checked out the GPL Alternative Track Database, it is quite the candy store of tracks. My favorites are Lime Rock and Monza 10K (like in Grand Prix).

John:

No, it's the same layout, but it's graphically enhanced quite a bit in the demo over the original.

It's easy to upgrade the graphics of the other 10 tracks from the original games. Drag the complete folders for each of the other 10 tracks in the original game -- NOT Watkins Glen -- to the Tracks folder of the demo. Then either follow the links in Don's post a few pages back or go to www.stevelife.com and download the upgrades for the tracks, putting the new files into the respective track folders on the demo. Just overwrite everything it asks, and you're set.

I recommend Steve Life over Don's, at least for now. Steve's tracks aren't as historically accurate as Don's mix, but they're VERY pretty. And they're all easy upgrades, simply taking unzipping an .exe file, exporting it to the respective track folder of the demo and running it from there. Done. Takes about two minutes to update each track.

I'm no expert at GPL, but I do have recent experience at a total upgrade of the 2004 demo.

Really enjoyed racing with you last night. I think we could have had a nice joust, as our skill levels seem similar now, if we could have kept the cars on track! :)

Eager to race again soon.

Take care,
PK

You what also is so great about GPL? No matter how far behind I was in the ADC races, it was still a rush just to try and imrove my PB.

As soon as everyone gets going, we need a DSP 67 GPL Championship where we run the stock tracks over 11 weeks.

Don, any idea on how to get Replay Analyzer to help post our results here on the forum?

Tonight when I am home I'll do some research.

It's funny you mention the ADC (Average Driver's Club), as I was basically the initial GPL server provider for that group until they outgrew my capacity. Great group of guys though I did more server admin work then I got to do racing.

http://adc.speedgeezers.com/pages/club- ... istory.php

That was back at around the same time we were doing our NR2003 SR/OS league. Then my wife and I had twins and managing racing servers became a lower priority. :) Anyway, all this resurgence has me ready to try for a DSP GPL League revival.

GPL Replay Analyser is great. Basically all you need to do is make sure the GPL server is set to save and export the full race replay log and then you run Replay Analyser on the replay and it does the rest automatically. I used to do this for GPL and NR2003. I would be glad to give it a shot again for a DSP/GPL League. We could follow the same rules and guidelines as the ADC.

A gentleman named Don Chapman? Certainly can't be the same c*cksucker we all know and love, can it? :) :) :)

Now how long have I been telling you that you would love GPL? :) Cool thing is that even though GPL is almost 9 years old, the final version of the 1969 cars (high wing and low wing), 66 cars and physics, and the highly anticipated Montjuich Park are all right around the corner thus continuing the lifespan of this masterpiece.

I bow in homage to you, Don, I bow. :)

I still can't get any version of Monaco Rocks to run right. Weird, because every other track update from Steve Life runs fine. But the one track that Steve didn't update, because Monaco Rocks is so brilliant, doesn't work.

I tried the high-res, 4-bit and 4-bit light, and I still get the problem of the textures and distant buildings all warping into a 60s music video melange. I also tried it at 16-bit colors instead of 32-bit.

No dice.

Since I got my original copy of GPL from "alternative" means, maybe my original Monaco track file wasn't the "pure" original, and that's causing the problem when I try to overwrite with Monaco Rocks.

Since original GPL track files are around 5 MB or less, does anyone have the original, untouched Monaco track file on their hard drive that they can send to me via e-mail at pkcny@yahoo.com ? I would be much obliged.

Thanks,
PK

I did have it export last night and had a look at some of my laps. What do I do with the files now so others can use em?

My Logitech MOMO left San Pablo, CA this morning so I'm hoping it will be here on Monday or Tuesday. I can't wait to run some laps with you guys. For all of the years I've owned GPL I think I've only taken it online once or twice. I've been messing around with it the last several days but I'm forced to use an xbox controller until the wheel arrives and I don't dare enter the same track as a live player with how twitchy that controller is.

Guys...quick question.

I thought I read someone post that the gpl 2004 demo was the full game? So, I can just download the demo and not have to buy the original gpl? Or I need to buy gpl and then apply this demo/patch?

Truth:

The 2004 demo is the full game with updated graphics, but it only comes with an updated Watkins Glen and no other tracks.

So if you want the 10 other original tracks, you'll need the original game. Or one of us could send them to you on a disc or via e-mail. They're around 5 MB apiece.

Join us, man!

So I've added the following to my GPL Rank Buddies List:

Dennis Gildehaus
Joe Heiman
Jamie E
Paul Kelly

Anyone here that I am missing that has an account? If you want to add me to your Buddy List do a driver search under DChaps.

I'll create a site that we can post the results to and then provide links. That is what I was able to do with NR2003 analyser. Although I am starting to remember that GPL's results list may not have all the HTML coding that was out of the box with NR2003 analyser. Either way, it should not take too much for me to get a simple results site going.

If we do start a league and/or regular GPL racing, we should probably at least setup one thread dedicated to that similar to what we did for the TOCA leagues. That way we keep this thread mostly related to updates and releases of racing sims. So far I think the discussion in here has added greatly to the thread. Particularly to anyone that might just recently been turned on to GPL.

Good call Don. Maybe for now we can add a GPL only thread. Perhaps Scoop can sticky it.

Thanks for the results James...what a rush to look at all the race info....woohoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
