I get these messages when I launch IGOR:

"Windows socket error: An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine (10053), upon API connect"

"Could not open GPLmods.ini"

I see it, but I get this message when I try to join it:

"Cannot find an installed Mod to join the race with."

I have Watkins Glen for the GPL Demo. I'm not on a router. I'm on RoadRunner cable Internet.

So I'm clueless. Any help?

Thanks,
PK

I'm running the original GPL, not the 2004 demo. OOPS am I supposed to be running the 2004 demo?

I don't think it should matter whether it is the demo or not. My understanding is that the GPL 2004 demo is in fact the full game just minus the 11 tracks.

Try here:

http://adc.speedgeezers.com/pages/gpl/f ... al-faq.php

Igor
Regardless of the mods you have (plain GPL67/GPL65/GPL69/TC) please download the actual version here:
iGOR & GEM+
The latest version is included in the actual GEM+ packae which you can get there.

No racelist in Igor:
1) close igor if it's running
2) Open C:\Program Files\GPLSecrets\Igor\Igor.ini
3) change the line IP = maserati.blw.net to read IP = gplrank.info
4) close & save igor.ini
5) run igor.
Alternative: iGOR Racelist updater

Here you can post any questions and comments

Igor keeps launching GPL, not the 2004 demo. Not sure what to do here.

Did that. Pointed Igor to GPL 2004.

Try to host.. it says "no tracks found".

If just host GPL can you guys see it? Let me see if we can race that way.

Well, I'm learning a few things by reading the RSC forums. I think the reason I'm having trouble is that for some reason neither my original copy of GPL or the 2004 demo has a racemods.ini file.

Why the hell would that be?

I'm confused and getting frustrated.

Take care,
PK

Follow-up: I don't have a mods folder in the demo, so of course there's no gplmods.ini file. Do I need to install a mod for IGOR to work?

Thanks,

Bingo. When I run IGOR from the GEM interface, I can get in. I guess GEM created the gplmods.ini file.

I need to install some more tracks and hot-lap at the Glen, and I'll join you cats shortly!

P.S.: Sometimes I feel like I'm actually smart -- working at NORAD or at NASA like F308GTB -- when I type all of these acronyms like IGOR and GEM. Inquiring minds at DSP know better ... :)

James, it said you created a room but then it said you quit.

Are you still on?

Sorry, I was doing work when you first created it.

I'm on now.

Boys:

I can confirm Jamie's server is working. He just observed one of the worst laps ever at the Glen.

I'll take a bow. :)

We hope to gather again around 10 p.m. (EST).

Thanks,
PK

Don:

I must admit, I may trash Steve Life's tracks and go with your suggestions after downloading Steve's Silverstone. It's pretty, but it has rolling, tree-covered hills in the background.

Silverstone is a wind-swept, flat-as-an-ice-rink old airfield. There aren't any major hills around it, at least what I've seen on TV.

Steve Life's stuff is pretty, but I'm becoming an obsessed stickler for accuracy like you. :)

Take care,
PK

1:13.79 in a Repco Brabham after about 15 minutes of hot-lapping. I'm getting there.

I had a PB while trying to stay ahead of piggy last night. 1:09:24! My best at the Glen. I don't know what my best was from years ago... probably worse than that.

pk go sign up for a GPLRank! I had never really tried to get one before... I just logged into the site and added Don and Piggy to my GPLRank buddy list so now I can see their ranks and compare my times with them easily.

James:

Will do this morning.

I went to bed last night thinking of how I can squeeze another three seconds out of my Glen lap time. I know I can do it; it will just take practice.

It's been a long time since I've gone to bed thinking of a game. You cats have created an addict.

The needle and the damage done ... :)

Thanks,
PK

I had not logged into GPLrank in ages. I just went and added Don, pigpen, and James. I can see that I really need to start working on my times once my new wheel shows up next week. James, I don't see any times listed under your profile (Jamie_E). Do you have another profile at GPLrank?

That was a freakin blast last night. First time I have felt that much of a rush since ICS and Op Flashpoint.

James, those first 5 laps were epic. Each lap we were getting faster until your spill.

One thing GPL does that I have never felt in racing before.....you really have to be patient and pick the best tiem to pass. You can't just leave your line and blow by somebody....leaving the line in GPL is recipe for car slowdown.

If I chose to try to cut a turn a little short to pass I would lose serious speed and end up falling farther behind. No racing game I have raced has ever come close to making me think about passing startegy in that way.

Also, 75% of driving so far on GPL is trying to make sure I stay on the track and all that is keeping a good line which makes passing even tougher. What a freaking RUSH!!!!

BTW, my persoanl best last night was a 1:09:13...I believe my all time personal best is 1:08:98 or something close.

I will add you guys on GPL rank. I can't wait to see how I progress on the rest of the tracks as we race them.

Great great fun last night.

PK, keep it up, your getting much faster much quicker then I ever did.

Jon, great meeting you last night. Thanks for joining DSP!

James, thanks for hosting.

Don, get your A** on the track with us.

Mix...get that WHEEL!

Jimmy...be man enough to race GPL again.....oh..wait..."it's to hard"....wahhhhhh!

I'm doing a hard-sell job on my cousin Provo to get the game and join us. He'll be there soon enough ... :)

P.S.: The engine note in the Repco-Brabham is awesome. I'm really eager to drive Gurney's Weslake-Eagle more often, too, once I can handle it better. Another very cool car, and it has American heritage!

Take care,
PK

Just signed up for GPLrank as pk500.

Saw that the world record for the Glen in a Cooper is 1:04.2. Good Lord! That's bringing the f*cking freight.

So cool that you can open those top laps with the GPL Replay Analyzer and view various parameters.

This game astonishes me.

Take care,
