Don:

The 4-bit version didn't work. But I didn't try the add-on version.

I just installed Steve Life's Watkins Glen. It's pretty, but the landscape is inaccurate. There are too many hills in the background. The Glen is atop a big plateau overlooking Seneca Lake -- I've been there enough times to know the terrain really well.

So I may try an alternative to Life's, as the Glen is one track for which I'll be a prick for accuracy. But Life's other tracks sure look nice!

Take care,
PK

Don:

I'm running 32-bit graphics standard on my laptop. Could that cause the problem with Monaco Rocks? It has no effect on any other track.

Reading this thread, combined with my ever-growing dissatisfaction with the 360's lack of a true circuit racing game has me itching to try out the Windows XP emulation on my iMac!

PK, if I remember correctly, the game works best with 16 Bit. Try it and see if it helps.

1:09:58 last night before bed...woohoo! I ran 4 straight laps under 1:10...a new record for me.

I love this sim! Between it and R-Factor....they are the cat's *ss!

So it's GPL reinstall time?

Can someone decide what versions of what things we're going to race (cars, tracks etc.) and then we can all sync up and get the same versions of stuff and then race. Should we try the engine changer thing and race F2 or F3 cars?

Can we keep it to "one setup for all" for now?

Piggy:

Thanks for the tip, man. Will try 16-bit.

I only have last night's Oilers' game on the DVR to watch tonight after everyone goes to bed. So the rest of the night will be dedicated to GPL! :)

I would go to the average drivers club site and use their site to download the tracks we run.

I say for now, we just run stock tracks.

We can run F2 or F3 cars as they are easier to drive since their speed is lower but the GP's are fine by me.

Let's start a the Glen since it is a track we should all be familiar with. That or Monza aren't to hard to race on.

Which version of GEM and Igor are you running? (EDIT got one... off the average driver site)

I'm setup to run tonight. Got an updated Glen track from the link provided by Don. Probably will update some cars too.

Are we running stock cars, stock setups? All the same car or pick?

Anyone up for hosting later? Don, any luck getting your server up?

Also, how do we use replay analyzer to post the results?

So many questions, so many possibilities. And I can't wait to figure them all out.

I can be on around 11 EST.

Wanted to add another voice to Don's suggestion that you all have a go at building a GPL Rank to help you learn the circuits. I keep meaning to update mine, but there are some tracks I was so awful at when I first ran them (Mexico City, Rouen, Zandvoort, Monte sodding Carlo) that I can't quite make myself go back and race them again. Elsewhere, I seem to be OK when I can stay on the track. I ran 1:07.71 at the Glen in the Lotus a while back, and I know I'm leaving time at the Esses and Big Bend in particular but every time I try to find it, off the road I go.

Silverstone would be a good track for online racing too, I'd have thought. Passing opportunities almost everywhere and the layout is simple enough to not be too daunting for the new adopters. A friend and I race there through VROC sometimes, and though my 56k dial-up keeps rendering him invisible, we have some good fun when I can see where he is.

Adam's right about Silverstone. Pretty basic track.

Goodwood is another very basic, fun track, but it's an add-on.

Piggy, not sure if I can make it on tonight. Still working on track updates and the like, and I'm obsessed with that. I also want to hot-lap more, I need to work out, and I have chores around here.

But I will get on soon! I promise.

Take care,
PK

I'll be around. I'm trying to setup a game through Igor, but how do I set it to GP cars, full realism, but not FULL length?

Where? Length is only settable in game I think... when I start it up.

I'll set it to "pro short" - 17 laps with realistic damage in GP cars.

Going to start it now and leave practice on for 15 minutes. Try to jump in to Igor and see it if you can. I have to step away from the PC for a bit.

It's "DSP test server" and password is siam007

I am having a hell of a time getting connected with IGOR. To be honest, the last time I was running a GPL server it was in the VROC days. I followed the directions for the ports and the best I could get was seeing chat in IGOR, but no server list. When I completely setup my main PC in the DMZ, I can see servers, but all I saw were three and they were all password protected. Do you all have to modify your port forwarding on your routers just to use IGOR and see the server lists?

Sorry pigpen... was tired.

Don, I could see servers in the Igor server list with no changes to my router configuration. Yeah there was only 3 and they had passwords. Check your PM please.

Perhaps we can try again tonight. Anyone available around 10pm EST?

Maybe when I'll get home, I'll launch a server in Igor with 2 hour practice session. Then you guys can see if you can see it. That'll be around 6pm-8pm. I won't be able to actually run during that time but I'll check in on it to see if you guys can get in, and also check here. I'll relaunch it a bit later with practice again in case you guys can't try between 6 and 8pm EST. Same name and password as above.

Yeah, we need to see if we can the server to begin with as I am only seeing 4 when I log on.

Good news is that there are GPL vets in the Igor chat room so help shouldn't be to far away.

Guys I have a whole bunch of wheels if anyone wants a wheel & Pedal rig .. my wife would thank you.

I've got non-FF ones like some of the Thrustmaster models, as well as some off-brand Force Feedback ones.

Let me know if you're interested. Basically I'd let em go online here for the cost of shipping to get them out of my closet and into someone's hands who will get use out of them.

I also have 2 Act Labs 6-gate shifters, a couple of act labs FF wheels (which use multiplatform cartrdiges), a clutch/brake/gas Act Labs pedal rig, and some other stuff..

Let me know.

Same server name and password as last night, man? How long are you keeping it open? I probably can't get on until around 9:30 or 10.

Thanks!

Practice is running until 8pm, then I'll probably restart it for another 2 hour practice, and go do some other stuff until about 9:45. Then around 10pm see who is around and see if we can do a short race.

I'd love it if someone can check now and see if they can see it in Igor.
