The Mariners lost in the ALCS that year to the Yankees.GTHobbes wrote:dbdynsty25 wrote:Guess one notable exception would be Seattle...didn't they get bounced in the divisional series the year that they had 117 wins (or however many it was)? I still don't think adding 2 games to the first round would be that big of a deal.GTHobbes wrote:I'm all for a 5 gamer in the first round. The team that wins, usually deserves it. There have been exceptions, but for the most part, the seedings hold true.
I kissed them goodbye when they lost Alou and didn't pick up a closer in the offseason.dbdynsty25 wrote:Well you guys can kiss the Cubs goodbye. Losing Mark Prior to a broken arm, his pitching arm, is not a good thing for the Cub faithful. Maybe next year!

Get ahold of yourself, man!sportdan30 wrote:Tim,
Please think before ever making another Cardinals Magic Number post. 5.5 games ahead of the Cubbies and we're playing like cr&p. I'm sorry, but Isringhausen is overrated.
I still think they will hit 105. It's just that they keep slumping, but then they are still on a pace to win more than a hundred games.HouOilers wrote:So it's 104 wins now instead of 105? LOL
Well, you are wrong. Twenty-three of their first Fifty-three games have been against the NL Central. Fifty-seven of their last ninety-nine games will be against the Central.I think you can drop the 104/105 win pipe dream. The cards have a losing record vs teams with winning records and their going to have to play a tougher schedule than they did in may.
Maybe they should call it, "Baseball 102: Cub and Astro fans have no clue what it takes to win a Pennant"This thread should be renamed 'Baseball 101 : pennants aren't won in May'.
So you feel free to dismiss the Cards record over 53 games, but are willing to entertain playoff dreams for a team that was under.500 just eight games ago? The Royals just swept the Yankees. Ready to nominate Buddy Bell for manager of the year?As for the cubs, if they continue to play like this, it won't really matter where they are with the cards in the NLC in september. Theyll probably win the WC.

How about "Advanced Baseball Wisdom 201: Pennants CAN be lost in May." I bet Astro fans could ace that class!
I still think they are going to win 105. I'm just confused why you would make up stuff to say they weren't. One of the reasons I think they will is the weak-ass division they play in. They will play even more of their games against the Central the rest of the way.HouOilers wrote: LOL, why so uptight? I thought the cards are gonna win 105 games? Why are you so flustered? Something worrying you?
All I know is that REAL baseball fans are smart enough not to proclaim pennants in May, even if their team is 20 games up. That's just basic baseball logic.
1) Maybe they should call the Cardinals the 2nd or 3rd best team money can buy. With their lineup, they SHOULD win the freaking pennant. At least Cardinal ownership is not stupid enough to let 30-40% of their offense (Beltran/Kent) walk out the door in the offseason....Jayhawker wrote:

Hey, look who's a half game ahead of the Braves in the WC standings. Too bad those Expos are so damn tough to beat, looks like you might miss out on another meaningful divisional title.dbdynsty25 wrote:I was saying the Cubs are done, and I stand by that statement.
