Re: MLB Season 2011
Another "I wouldn't have thunk it"... Catcher A.J. Pierzynski of the White Sox broke a bone in his hand and went on the disabled for the first time in his 13 year career.
Such a demanding position to play, you would think he'd been on it at some point. Wow!

Apparently not all pro athletes are a "whiney-assed, overpaid bunch of grown men", as posted in another thread.snaz16 wrote:A feel good story...makes me proud to be a Tribe fan....

The Cubs have finally buried the rotting corpse of Jim Hendry. Too bad Alfonso Soriano's contract cannot be killed by conventional means.
Re: MLB Season 2011
looks like the Cleveland Indians received the 2002 trade version of Jeff Weaver. aka Ubaldo Jimenez.

positive news.Brando70 wrote:The Cubs have finally buried the rotting corpse of Jim Hendry. Too bad Alfonso Soriano's contract cannot be killed by conventional means.
if were Cubs ownership, would get in contact with Brian Cashman. Find out if there's interest.
the Cubs could do much worse, then Cashman, followed by Joe Girardi in 2013 or before.
despite bein a Yankee fan, if were in the position of either, and made the above offer, would leap at the chance to trade-in New York for Chicago. Based on the NY sports market. And a upgrade in the pizza department

Re: MLB Season 2011
MLB show on XM radio threw Andrew Friedman's name out there the other day. Also was mentioned they want someone with a track record. That would be a coup for the Cubs.vinny-b wrote:positive news.Brando70 wrote:The Cubs have finally buried the rotting corpse of Jim Hendry. Yea,that would be a loss for the Rays. I think he is sorta attached at the hip with the owner though. Its one thing being a boy genious with money ala Theo in Boston or Jon Daniels in Texas.but what they've been able to accomplish with the payroll and thru the minors is pretty impressive. Todays loss puts them at 70-59,and with little offense, which would have them in major contention anywhere but the AL or NL East. Don't be surprised if they trade Shields in the off season, maximizing his trade potential. Rays got a kid pitcher that has tore thru the minors including AAA. Remember the name Matt Moore. Might even get a cup of coffee with a Sept. call up.
Re: MLB Season 2011
snaz: it is ok, you can list Cashman. lol. My analysis of him, is he's someone who's learned on-the-job. And in addition to valuable experience gained, he's proved marketably better, when 'interference' was removed. Both in terms of FA signings, and retaining the right prospects. He's made mistakes recently (AJ Burnett). Yet, those are mistakes which will be made every time, when a franchise insists on rebuilding on-the-run, as opposed to yielding to any type of a normal rebuild cycle. Also, believe him to be a person of high-integritysnaz16 wrote:Yea,that would be a loss for the Rays. I think he is sorta attached at the hip with the owner though. didn't know you were a Rays fan? kewl. It's remarkable the pitching which exists in the rotation, even after trading a winner like Matt Garza. Impressed by what they've done in 2011
Re: MLB Season 2011
The wonder boys I referred to are in thier 30's. Cashman is a "grizzled" old vet at 44...lol.(If only I were that young). Cash has done a great job in spite of the diversions he has dealt with. And the farm system has been productive.vinny-b wrote:snaz: it is ok, you can list Cashman. lol. My analysis of him, is he's someone who's learned on-the-job. I'm a combo Rays and Indians fan, having grown up in Youngstown,Ohio, and the last 38 yrs in paradise, known as Punta Gorda,Fla. All GM's make mistakes, judging talent is more complicated than forcasting the weather, its just the big spenders have more cash to throw at thier mistakes than the small market teams do. But hey,its the nature of the beast.
Re: MLB Season 2011
How hot are the Tigers. With Justin Verlander getting 2 starts in a 5 game series, this team is real dangerous. And the Rays are making the Red Sox real nervous. A win v Balt. tonite closes it to 3 games, with a big 4 game set between the 2 this weekend in Fenway...good stuff

Re: MLB Season 2011
I could sit and watch Verlander pitch.. the movement on his 105 mph fastball last night was something to behold.
Re: MLB Season 2011
snaz: props on your Rays taking 3 of 4 in the rat's nest, when they HAD to
Red Sox are really leaking oil. I believe NYY will determine if Boston makes the playoffs or not. With 7 games remaining with Tampa, the Yankees will be in position to win/lose these games based on their 'interests'

What a dagger the Mets delivered the Cards today. 6 runs in the 9th to win 8-6. Ouch!!

Re: MLB Season 2011
well, you made a nice run Tampa Bay. Tried to cheer you on to victory, every game this week. Didn't happen. Better pick up an offensive player or three, in the off-season
Boston is very lucky.

Re: MLB Season 2011
D. Price usually owns TOR whenever the Jays face TPA. A bad throw to home base and an impeccable pitching performance by B. Morrow helped BOS's chances in the wild card race. Rays are running out of steam after playing solid baseball for the past 2 months.vinny-b wrote:well, you made a nice run Tampa Bay. Tried to cheer you on to victory, every game this week.
