Yahtzee! Well said.

This thread needs a little more Rodney King, brothers.

Take care,

Beatings from the LAPD?

I kid, I think we did get a little off track. I embrace my conservative brothers. Let us build a bridge to a better tomorrow.

But I'm not reaching under the stall, no matter how much you tap. :D

Yes, I did forget that other post, though for no reason other than I was tired and somehow forgot to paste that in. (I thought it was in there...)

Thanks for the post Jackdog. I understand where you're coming from, and the 60's song GWB was totally uncalled for. However, the time around the inauguration is two things: the beginning of a new administration and the end of an old one; and people are going to express their negative opinions about the old administration (just as people are going to express their disagreements and positive feelings about the old adminstration). That's allowed, and the inauguration day is an appropriate day to talk about it, being the official end of the Bush administration. I haven't moderated people for posting anti-Obama content (which has been the majority of content over the course of these threads), and I'm not going to moderate people for posting anti-Bush content. Furthermore, other posters posting anti-Bush opinions isn't an excuse for turning the thread into a bunch of petty schoolyard taunts. If there is a series of anti-Obama posts, it's no excuse for a forum free-for-all.

As for future posting; just show some basic respect to the other posters. You may think that poster X is the Antichrist and a goat-sodomizer, but NO ONE HERE CARES. I especially don't, and when you express those opinions, you're just bring the forums down, making my life harder, and inching me ever closer to killing politics threads for good (I was really close to just locking them for a long, long time, as I'm sick of moderating this when it becomes a cesspool). And this also goes for the general comments aimed towards a segment of the posters here and what you think their logical capabilities are, or whether you think a certain set of arguments are pro-good things and anti-bad things. Make your argument, defend your argument; but it's unnecessary to have commentary about the hypothetical arguments of your opponent, or arrogant we're right you're wrong stuff.

Many with mental illness?? WTF man. Where are you getting this bullshit?
It's not bullshit Jack. It's very real....

http://ptsdcombat.blogspot.com/2006/04/ ... -iraq.html

http://www.capveterans.com/americans_wh ... /id70.html

This is just the tip of the iceberg. Once all the soldiers that have had extended duty start returning, the number will jump way up. Perhaps you were insulted by the word "mental illness" and the stigma it carries?
Call it what you will, but it can be worse that any physical illness.

The article says that over 75% of the soldiers in Iraq have shot at the enemy. That's a staggering number compared to wars of the past.
48% say they were responsible for deaths of the enemy. That's a huge number of soldiers that will have to deal with the fact that they took a life.
People that accidentally kill someone else in a car accident sometimes need mental therapy for the rest of their lives to deal with what happened.

Nobody ever accused soldiers of being "pitiful". They are human beings like the rest of us. As far as trying to help and "fix the problem", I voted for Obama, who promises to do everything he can to give our returning vets everything they need. He also vowed to get them out of combat as soon as posible and to me, getting our men and women safely home is the best possible way to help them. I also assist with an organization we have at my compnay called "Operation Homefront" that assists returning Vets in every way possible. We all held a HUGE American flag at a Braves game during the national anthem and raised a lot of awareness that day. We also had a fundraising at Atlanta speedway.

Jack...me and you are NEVER going to agree on the concept of war and the military. We have views that are at opposite ends of the spectrum. I try and understand yours and I hope you try and understand mine. Please know that I respect your opinions, but that doesn't mean I always agree with them.[/url]

Well, I would probably like to know this so I could remove the antichrist from my Xbox live friends list, as I could see that being a bone of contention at the pearly gates.

'I see you've gamed with 666-luc14-666...'

'Yeah, but I didn't know he was the real deal, Pete. You know how many people have tags like that?!'

'You were witness to scenes of violation, however, perpetrated by...'

'Again, Pete, day-in-the-life!'

;)

In all seriousness, I agree this thread has gone way downhill lately, and I personally prefer discussion of specific issues rather than name-calling.

Rodster wrote:I was listening to Dennis Miller on the radio yesterday and he made a great point. He said he had no problem with Obama flubbing his lines when he took his oath of office. He was probably nervous and you should cut the guy some slack. I totally agree with that. I heard it myself and thought the same thing.

What's interesting, he said was if that had happened to GW. We would not have heard the end of it on how stupid he was that he he couldn't remember his lines. That would have been fodder for the left wing media.
Obama didn't mess up. He stopped and looked at Roberts as if to say "you want to say that again"? Roberts messed up the order of the words in the oath and Obama, cool and collected, just handled it beautifully.

I heard that they redid the oath yesterday in private, just to make sure it was done correctly.

Yes and no. Obama still recited the words in the wrong order even after Roberts caught himself. Roberts effed up, but Obama's kick save wasn't a beauty.

Irrelevant, anyways.

I'd even say the Obama rattled Roberts a little when he started speaking before Roberts was done with the first line.

BTW, this thread is really long, so for forum optimization purposes, I'm locking this one and posting a new politics thread. It'll be up in a sec.
