I promise to use my fledgling power only for good. First item on the agenda: I shall end the wearing of Crocs by the end of my first term!
I'd vote for that. Crocs=the new sweat pants=a sign you've given up on life.

I will reach across the aisle and join you in that endeavor.
I would also like to take a moment and say that I have enjoyed these political threads. It's been a pretty wild year in politics, and I have had a lot of fun discussing this with all of you, even when I would get pissed off.

I know nothing other than debating whether BO is a socialist flies here lately, but I wonder what the legacy of GW will be when this election is over. If BO wins, don't u figure GW will go down as the one president, so bad, that America put a black "radical socialist" in-charge? If BO does win (I won't believe it, til I see it), one can't help to think that GW & the people who voted for him are directly responsible.
Hell, I went back to my home town last month for a wedding (southern IL area). It's incredibly racist (no blacks after 6pm, even asians get a hard time). Anyway, it was a 50/50 split between McCain & BO signs in various yards around town. I was so shocked, I took pictures. Perhaps the one good thing GW did was to make my hometown less racist! Should I ever meet him, I'll thank him.

One benefit of an Obama victory would be priceless work from John Kass. Here's a great piece from the Tribune about how Illinois going for its favorite son is to some extent an act of self-flagellation by corruption.

What's the name of your hometown? No blacks after 6pm in 08? If any blacks live there,I gotta call bullshit on that one.
Come to think of it, you've convinced me. Expectations of an Obama presidency are completely reasonable and appropriate and unlikely to generate any backlash...
Carol and I hear this type of bullshit from our family everytime we talk too them about this election. The people that believe this are in for a huge letdown if the "Chosen One" get's elected.

lol, I wish. Feel free to look up 62278 on census.com. The entire area has one black person listed (and she was a "special needs" child living with a foster family). Trust me, it's not a law or anything, but it's definitely 'enforced'...
Gamer, if made the old route 3 drive to SIUC, you probably know Red Bud, Ruma, and Chester quite well.

It was bullshit.
Even Asians get a hard time?...Then you tell us only one black lives there.
Having been through the area, I would tend to believe Gregg's being straight up. Believe me, driving from Springfield to C-Dale late at night I prayed for no car trouble. Outside of Springfield, Decatur, Jacksonville, there are a lot small communities in the central-southern Illinois area where there aren't a lot of black folks. it is what it is.

I would have to take your word for it...
To me it just seemed like calling My parents home towns on Crete racist cause no blacks are allowed after 6 pm when none live there.

Ok, this topic has gone waay off course, but Gamer is right. There's a very "ignorant" stretch between St. Louis and Carbondale that (still) has a very bad rep. I lived there until I was off to college & I saw things I'd prefer to forget.
I could care less if u believe it or not, my POINT was how surprised I was to see BO signs when I went back 3 weeks ago.

Why are people so amazed that such areas exist in America outside of the Deep South? Racist pockets exist EVERYWHERE in America.
My wife's hometown, about 90 miles east of Syracuse on the Mohawk River, is one of those places. I hear the "n word" with regularity when I visit there. My wife never met a person of color until she went to college. She is not racist and has an open mind, but sadly some of her relatives do not.
Take care,
PK

I get the point...I know the point. Why do you think that Obama isnt ahead by 20 points in the polls?
.
Whoa, whoa, whoa...you aren't impying that racism has THAT much to do with his lead shrinking, are you? Of course, sometimes you are intentionally hard to read, but c'mon...you aren't buying into that popular bit of malarkey, are you?
There are a few, to be sure, who aren't voting for 'THAT N***ER', but it has very, very little to do with it. And I'm from Alabama...I see alot of Obama signs in my neighborhood, and not all of them are black households.
If Obama were JC Watts, I'd vote for him in a hot second. It ain't his biological race that's the issue...it's the content of his political race that's troubling.

So if anything good comes out of this election, it'll be that my home town is a little less racist (Gamer prob still wouldn't want to move there quite yet).

I not amazed by it at all. Trust me I have lived in the Boston area. Same thing goes for some parts of inner cities if your white. My point was,if blacks lived there and they couldn't be seen in town after 6 I was calling bullshit. I don't believe it would go unchecked by the people or the media. Greg say's there's only one black person in the area,so I believe they might say that horseshit when there's no brothers around.
As far "Nigger" or "Nigga" goes, why call it the "N" word? I have no problems calling you a "Mick Cracka" f*** the PC of it when it's used everyday by my race. Hell, Jesse Jackson called Obama that when he wanted to cut his balls off. I'm sure he wasn't using it as a term of endearment.

I wasnt refering to you or any other staunch republicans . Ofcourse you would never vote for a democrat especially one with such socialist leaning.
Im talking about old white democrats and"independents". Im referring to the state of the economy. Whether or not its Bush's fault is not relevant. I just think any other member of the opposition party would have a much bigger lead in the polls.

What's the name of the place? I want to go there and raise some money for The WWP. I'll limp my black arse around that town and rake in some cash. No bullshit.
