ISI has just released the Shanghai, China Jiading circuit for rFactor. It appears they are releasing a track for each remaining F1 race. Hope that means Suzuka is forthcoming. Check it out:

Sweet, a new Brands Hatch to replace the myriad of "long in the tooth" conversions that exist out there in racing sim land.Eidos Interactive and Simbin Development Team are happy to announce the demo release of RACE – The Official WTCC Game. For the first time ever the close racing and intense action of the World Touring Car Championship can be experienced behind your own computer!
Featured cars in this PC demo are the Seat León and the BMW 320i, representing the versatility of the WTCC Championship. At the legendary circuit of Brands Hatch, UK, players can experience a taste of what’s to come. Chase your ghost in the Time Attack mode, push yourself to the limit and break your own record.
On top of this it’s also time to unveil the in-game support classes for the WTCC championship which will be featured in the full version of RACE – The Official WTCC Game. Next to the over 35 officially licensed touring cars there will be 2 additional classes, ‘WTCC 87’ and the 2006 Mini Cooper Challenge.
‘WTCC 87’ will give you the chance to drive 2 of the most fabled cars from this era, the Alfa Romeo 75 Turbo and the BMW e30 M3. These classic touring cars were the stars in the only ever Touring Car World Championship before Andy Priaulx won the revived World Championship in 2005. They were driven by names that are part of the 2006 season as well, such as Gabriele Tarquini (SEAT) and Nicola Larini (Chevrolet), or Roberto Ravaglia (Team manager BMW Italy-Spain) who won the championship that year.
The Mini Cooper Challenge offers racing as close as the Official WTCC, providing close racing and great spectacle. Being the ultimate starter class, the Mini’s offer a great opportunity to learn the basics of racing before progressing to the more advanced World Touring Cars. And above all an equal opportunity, as everybody is driving the same package in this field of over 30 cars.
Together with the Official 2006 WTCC Season these support classes will give you an experience you don’t want to miss. So download the demo and get a taste of what’s to come!
The PC demo and additional info on the support classes is available from the official RACE-website: www.race-game.org

P4 3.4Ghz, 2 gb of ram, 250gb sata hard drive, and an nvidia 7900 card. I didn't go too crazy on the card, since there are new ones coming out all of the time. Certainly a big step up from my old rig though. I got it all on New Egg, applied for their card so have a 6 months no interest deal on all of it.

Race: The Official WTCC Gamewas released this weekend in Europe and worldwide via Steam on Nov. 24th. This is the most recent racing sim from Simbin (GTR, GT Legends, GTR2) and it models the 2006 FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC).
I was looking forward to this game because I am a fan of the WTCC. It is one of the only racing series I am aware of where you can view all the races of the current season online (Eurosport coverage). I was also looking forward to it because it has some tracks modeled that have never been done for any racing sim to date (Macau, Curitiba, and Puebla), and new versions of Brands Hatch and Istanbul Speedpark.
After struggling with this game all weekend, I would not recommend it in it's current state.
First, it will cost you $44.95 on Steam which is pretty steep for a digital download, especially when you consider I purchased the actual CD hard copy of GTR 2 for $19.99 (although that was after driving around for 3 days looking for it at about 20 stores). I fully support the digital download purchase model, as in this day and age I don't see the need for the actual hard media (CD, DVD, etc.). However, there should be some kind of a price break to the consumer.
But the price does not really factor into why I don't recommend it. The game is just a buggy mess with some strange design decisions on Simbin's part.
*Lots of lockups and crashes to desktop. This is being pretty widely reported in the tech support forums, but as of yet I cannot even start a championship without the game locking up on me. Time trial and practice modes work though. Trying quick races has sometimes worked, other times completely crashes to desktop.
*Frame rate issues. I have an older system (AMD 3500, 128mb nvidia 6600GT), but GTR2, GT Legends, and rFactor run pretty well for me on med to high settings in small field of car racing conditions (10-15). In RACE I am struggling to get above 20fps in race conditions. In fact FRAPs was reporting frames from 1-28 in a 10 car race that I did. It stuttered so much on the first lap as to be virtually unplayable. The tracks did not seem any more detailed than GTR2 or GT Legends tracks, and I would say the cars and cockpits are less detailed than GTR2. Even alone in Time Trial mode the frame rates are much lower than GTR 2. Playable on my system, but not great.
*Graphical glitches. Just lots of missing textures, flickering images. Also, shadows are not dynamic in the cockpit as in GTR 2, GT Legends, etc. Just some wierd stuff. Also, all the tracks and cockpits seem dark and gloomy even in sunny conditions.
*All files are encrypted, even the plr file. Meaning no customizations whatsoever. GTR2 basically opened everything up, so why go backwards?
*DX9 shader support only. For owners of decent systems this may not be an issue. GTR2, GT Legends, and rFactor all allow for DX9, DX8 and DX7. DX8 gives me much improved results in those games without a perceived quality hit. Why leave this out when the other games based off the exact same engine have it?
*Buggy Multiplayer code, no dedicated server. Have yet to successfully race online.
Anyway, this is just to name a few. Hopefully, Simbin will fix these issues as I would love to race this series and tracks, but worst case scenario maybe someone will unencrypt the track files and at least convert them to GTR 2. Overall, seems like a misstep by Simbin and possibly a rush to release.

This mod sounds jam packed full of goodness, for instance:
Wow, I can't wait to try this one out.V1.0 comes with two versions, Grand Prix 1979 HISTORICAL and Grand Prix 1979 UNRESTRICTED.
Grand Prix 1979 HISTORICAL is the 1979 is the season as it actually happened, with the various models and paintjobs appearing where they actually were (save for the few still missing in this build, and for driver changes which are not yet possible to simulate in Rfactor). This version does not allow the user to bypass historical accuracy; it´s not possible for instance to drive the FW07 at Kyalami, since in the actual season the car only debuted in Round 4 at Jarama. By attempting to do so, the user will find himself sitting in a Fw06. This version is optimized for offline play, and is the one that fully complements the spirit of the mod.
Grand Prix 1979 UNRESTRICTED provides more freedom to the user. Whilst it offers the same content as HISTORICAL, it allows the user to drive anything, anywhere. This version might be more suitable for online racing, but it doesn´t work as well offline since the AI cars will always be the default model of each team.

//// INSTALLATION:
Before installation it is strongly recommended to remove any previously installed versions of the mod.
!!!IMPORTANT!!! DO NOT UNINSTALL the demo from the add/remove icon on the control panel folder. Due to a bug with the installer creating program, doing that will remove the ENTIRE Rfactor installation. To uninstall safely use the proper uninstall79.exe in rfactor´s main folder.
To install v1.0 just point both GP79_v10.exe and GP79_tp_v10.exe installers to your Rfactor folder.

Not only is it tough, but it's one of the real old configurations. There are elevation changes for Pete's sake! Even the AI cars lose a little traction there, which is cool to see.
Watkins Glen is also well done, and another great challenge. Getting through the esses just right, or not wiping out in the heel of the boot is tough (at least for me!). These '79 cars do not have the stopping power of their modern day counterparts.

The F1 79 season is freaking brilliant.
I am racing with a Fitipaldi Lotus and I am loving it. It is a really good challenge but not nearly as touhg as racing in GPL's 67's.
This mod has to go down as the greatest racing sim mod since GPL's 2004 demo.
Well done.
Guys, we need a DSP racing night with the 79's sometime soon. Let's race at Kyalami.

My rig just doesn't have the ponies to run rFactor, sadly. But if the frau makes good on her threat to buy a family PC this year, you can bet rFactor will be one of the first damn pieces of software I put on it.
Take care,
