Before FDR was inaugurated, he was thought of as being a lightweight. Funny how men react and don't react to history.

Do that search and count of all the Jim Jones/Jonestown references and then count off all the reference to African Americans. Feel free to apologize to Teal in your followup reply.

Well of course the media won't treat them the same. Some out of fear of being labeled racists and the others out of fear of losing their jobs. Stock Market really liked his inauguration today. 200 point drop after his speech.

Were the transgressions personally so egregious as to warrant ill will? Again, I refer to Penn Jilette's "Party of Hate vs. Party of Fear" notion that a person can be wrong but not 'evil'.

Seriously, I hope the best for this nation so I wish Obama the best however long he serves. Frankly, I was (and have been since Reagan/GHWB) disappointed with the candidates from both major parties.

Lastly, to chime in on the Kool-Aid, perhaps as a Devils fan I have a distinct bias as we've come to affectionately refer to our GM's team culture as "Lou's Kool-Aid" or, shorter, Lou-Aid (for reasons referred to in Rob's post). This was famously (to hockey fans) referenced by then Devil Mike Danton in a dispute with Lou Lamoriello.

Well at least your brothers greeted him with the class that you exhibit at the Inauguration today.

Comments like that can open up the largest can of worms....I'll do us all a favor and refrain from diving into that as it could be a VERY long discussion.....

Cheney, in particular, needs to stay alive and well in case more stuff comes out in the years ahead about pre-war intelligence, Haliburton, Valeri Plame, torture etc.

Why? You think something will happen or charges would be pressed?

I don't think any charges will be pressed against a former VP, no way, but if there's any hearings it would be a shame if Cheney couldn't defend himself in person.

My avatar has ONE meaning, db. Two were implied, but not by me, man. And I don't need an apology-unlike some, I don't have a glass jaw. (And I DON'T mean you, db)

Serious question: Does executive privilege disappear when leaving office?

Take care,

I didn't know Fox Mulder was also an open advocate of allowing the prisoners held by the CIA outside the country to be tortured.

Teal, my father suffered a traumatic jaw accident when he was younger, and he had to have it replaced with a glass jaw. Are you saying that he's not a "real man" because his jaw is made of glass? I find that terribly offensive. You, sir, are a jawist.

I realize that...Jared put it about as good as anyone can. There could be two implications. You thought one, I thought the other. That's all there is to it. Not sure why BD thinks he's the ruler of all apologies, but whatever. Jared had a nice ignore feature on for him in the past year or so. That must have broken. Damn.

A self avowed, proud, and unashamed anti-glass-jawer. And don't you forget it.

No. Most of his stuff will be sealed off for decades. We won't know for years the type of stuff that occurred in W's white house.

Congress failed the last two years to go after the administration. Now I guess the answer is what would they have done. Impeached Bush and get Cheney. It's doubtful that you could impeach both a sitting President and VP.

I think the damning part of this, is congress just waited for the election to clear out Bush, and the administration playing "subpoena" chicken with congress. The administration knew that congress wasn't going to hit them hard. One Congress didn't have political clout and two, Pelosi and Reid were not stronger even after their 06 gains.

So you have Congress playing an oversight role and the White House ignoring that role to a degree.

Either way, Bush and Cheney are now left to the annals of history. They won't be tried in congress or a court, but by the judges of history. I doubt Bush will ever be more than minor figure in Presidential history like Clinton, Carter, Ford and some others.

We'll see what happens...

On a personal note, Obama's address spoke to me in a way his other speeches have not.

Every President talks about hope and change but only great ones achieve it. So it's Obama's turn to deliver.
