LMFAOCOURIC: How important do you think it is, Mr. President-elect, to apprehend Osama bin Laden?
OBAMA: I think that we have to so weaken his infrastructure that, whether he is technically alive or not, he is so pinned down that he cannot function. My preference obviously would be to capture or kill him. But if we have so tightened the noose that he’s in a cave somewhere and can’t even communicate with his operatives then we will meet our goal of protecting America.

The Daily Show, haha. Timeout for using that show and a news source.RobVarak wrote:I definitely remember outlets like NPR and The Daily Show taking shots over the cost of the inauguration, but it wasn't a universal complaint. I thought it was a baseless criticism then as it is now.

Technically (though unintentionally, I'm sure), JRod is correct. Rob did use a show and a news source as examples.
Edit: After reading Rob's latest post I went back and re-read the whole exchange. I misread Robs example of NPR as a news source. So now I'm the one technically incorrect.

I was actually agreeing with Jared. To me it seems that it was only the outlets that were openly critical of the war itself that were bitching about the inauguration....actually only a few of them.
It wasn't as wide spread as Teal was claiming, and as I said, I found the whiners unpersuasive and petty then as I do now.

Yeah, I heard about the idea they had of banning drive-thrus in the entire city of madison a while ago. Thankfully, I don't live there. Aside from the way-out-left areas of Madison and the city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin is farily conservative.
Milwaukee residents voted on a referendum question in November that mandates all companies operating in the city give their employees 9 sick days per year. This includes part time and hourly employees.
If I missed 9 days a year for being "sick", I'd be fired. Giving this many to cooks at McDonalds is ludicrous. One local restaurant with 3 locations has already shut down this year, citing this as a contributing factor. So instead of having an hourly job without paid sick days, hey now have no job at all. Smart move do-gooders.

Brave Pilot Saved Us From President's Speech A grateful nation honors Chesley Sullenberger
George W. Bush's farewell address to the nation was a bit like his last press conference, but shorter: a little sentimental, a little defensive, a lot about 9/11. Fortunately, nobody had to watch it because of the blanket coverage devoted to a freaking airplane that flew into the Hudson.
Wow, that is some freaking serious journalism you have going there, NBC in DFW.

What a cheesy and bullshit thing to do. It's one thing to write your daughters a private letter. It's another to release it to PARADE. I wasn't touched at all. This seals it for Carol and I. We aren't buying Obama's "YES WE CAN" commemorative plate.

Too bad it worked out for Jimmy Carter.wco81 wrote:Only the diehards want to hear from Bush at this point.
This past week, the talk was about how in 30 years, he'll be vindicated if the Middle East becomes peaceful.
If that's what you have to hang onto, that your legacy will somehow turn out positive at some undefined point in the future.

Bush was a sh*tty president, no question. Led by pure ideology rather than practicality, which never is a good thing.
But history's greatest monster? Ever hear of Hitler? Pol Pot? Stalin? Mao? Milosevic?
You're comparing a bad president to leaders who attempted extermination of certain segments of their population?
Come on. I guess people will say anything -- as stupid as it may be -- to get a rise.

He is leaving with a 20% approval rating. The worst EVER for an outgoing President. The thing that really bugged me in his farewell speech the other day was him saying "I did everything on behalf of the American people". The truth is exactly the opposite. He acted alone. The country never demanded we bomb Iraq....Europe was against it, the UN was against it, the rest of the world was against it. How dare he say he acted on our behalf!
And then he defended his response to Katrina! That was a documented debacle of the highest magnitude. We watched helplessly on TV while thousands called for help from their rooftops for days until the gov't arrived. It's disgusting that he still can't admit incompetence after looking back on it all.
p.s. I know I said I would stay out of these threads, but he angered me so much the other day, I had to get one last statement out of my statement. OK, I feel better now

Idiots and monsters don’t do what President Bush has done in Africa over the course of his Administration. He's prevented terrorist attacks on home soil for 7 years, cutting taxes for married couples and middle class tax payers, liberating two countries, both of which I proudly served. He's appointed judges who will stand up for the life of unborn and aged people. That's why I won't call him a shitty President. So we will agree to disagree on that point.pk500 wrote:And I hope that was a snide remark or joke ... Come Tuesday,I hope to God Obama doesn't face half the bullshit Bush had to deal with in his first term. Just like Bush,he will have his work cut out for him. People will find out that one man doesn't make or break this country.
