Sounds kinda Road House-ish. Rocking a sweet 80s mullet like Swayze?

Games sounds great guys! Everything I've read sounds like it's top notch. Why then don't I have strong desire to play it? On an impulse, I picked it up for the PS3 yesterday, but am planning on returning it for a couple reasons. First, I just don't have that "drive" or time to devote to play these games anymore (wish I was in my mid 20s again.... that's for another time though).

Also, the game on the PS3 only outputs to 640p instead of the standard 720p. That's disappointing, and while the PS3 got some additional add on exclusives, I can't help but feel I'm paying full price for a less polished version. $64 and some change is a lot money to drop if I'm not fully committed to playing.

Definitely looking forward to renting and playing as much as possible within that week's time. Love reading the impressions thus far. Keep em coming!

You basically explained the exact same feeling I had when I purchased God of War 3. I ended up returning it unopened for this game. I am glad I did at this point.

I felt like I was really done with sandbox games but this one was too intriguing. So far I am so unbelievably impressed with the art, style, graphics, environments, etc...that I wil probably put a ton of time into the game just for those reasons alone.

I had no idea that the multi-player would be so fun. I always found the GTA MP to be silly fun for a few minutes, but with very little depth. This is clearly a completely different thing altogether!

By the way, as a serial hater of scripted cutscenes in Rockstar games, this is pretty damn good stuff, and surprisingly restrained. I particularly like the Sherriff in Armadillo, just an excellent perfomance by videogame standards. Eli is well done too.

The main character shares the same voice actor as the lead in Lost & The Damned, no? I'm having trouble getting around that.

I agree with all of this, though I'm still kinda holding my breath waiting for some sort of 'funny' Indian sidekick character or something like that. The Marshall is great.

A lot of little great moments of Western ambiance in the main gameworld, too, that really add to the experience.

[very mild non-plot spoiler] I rented some barn-like space one night behind a farmhouse to save the game, and as my dude got ready to settle himself down on some hay bales for some shut-eye my 'roommate' sat near the edge of the structure playing the harmonica. Looking over at him there past the hay and beneath a big western night sky was pretty darn cool, and gave me one of the best 'marveling at the game world' moments I had since GTAIII's initial experiences. [End spoiler]

Oh! Also...melee combat sucks.

The 'free roam' is a blast, but my friends & I saw some bizarre stuff last night like your character going invisible, guns, horses, etc. Also a couple times a friend joined the room & spawned him on the other side of the planet from where everyone else was.

We had a blast getting the "law" after us & seeing how long we could hold out in house. The highest bounty I had on my head was around $800.

I saw a good amount of this when I first got online yesterday too. I was riding an invisible mule for a pretty long time myself.

I'm finding, more than most games in recent memory, that I'm generally coming to like or loathe some of the characters in the story. Some of the guys in particular I absolutely cannot wait to put a bullet in their head the moment that it lets me. And groups of bandits that do despicable things are even more fun to slaughter slowly...leg shots, watch them crawl and pop them in the back of the head. But I'm finding genuine emotional feelings attached to some of the characters, which is pretty uncommon for me in a game.

I did the "just one more mission" last night before heading to bed, and I got sidetracked hunting, saving random people in the wilderness, and riding, and suddenly it took me an hour just to GET to the next mission. I decided not to, and pitched camp out of town to save and go to bed, or I'd have been up until 2.

According to IMDB it's someone different - I didn't think they sounded that similar but I played through L&D twice so maybe I'm more used to Johnny Klebitz's voice.

Last night in free roam, my friends & I found this road where a stage coach would buzz by every couple minutes. Needless to say, it didn't end well for most of them. After we each had our own stage coach  we made our own stage coach races. If you took a corner too fast, it'd roll & throw u out. So we made a rule that if you left your stage coach, you were free game to be shot at until you got back on it. You could do this crap all night long...

I thank god that melee combat sucks-too many games recently (CoD, BF:BC2) where melee combat is WAY overdone. Just shoot 'em, dammit!

In the realm of 'damn, that's just cool' moments, at the end of the day out on Macfarland Ranch, the ranch hands get together around the campfire, someone brings a fiddle, and the rest either sit around or dance. The stars overhead are stunning, and make me very much miss Utah at night, especially around Bryce Canyon.

It's common for me to be riding around in no particular direction, and just stop and stare. Beautiful, beautiful stuff...

I didn't mean 'sucks' as in not effective (although that's part of it), but more 'sucks' as in awkward, clunky and limited in a way that doesn't fit the genre, not just in multiplayer but in single player as well. You can't really have a rousing wild west barfight here, just herky-jerky one-on-one boxing matches. Doesn't ruin the game, but it's a shame it isn't better.

Yeah, I liked that one too, but in my case I wanted to get a better look at the fiddle player, and accidentally aimed my rifle at him...

...which ended the music rather abruptly, as he and half of those gathered there ended up fleeing over the fire in terror, screaming all the while.

Oops.

To me he sounds a lot like Big Love's Bill Paxton...especially during some of his early conversations with Bonnie.
