I'm willing to cut VC some slack wrt in game Pepsi and State Farm ads. As long as the gameplay is better than last years effort then it'll get a pass from me. I want the series to rival that of Sony's game. When it gets to that point, then we can bug them to be a little more discreet with their ads.

In the stills the adds stand out, but luckily in the videos I don't notice them as much (maybe thats why they are plastered all over!) I don't like the fact that they are changing the stadiums to accommodate them, thats pretty weak. If they are going to do that then they should drop the price of the game.

I traded in some stuff at work and was able to pay off MLB 2K9, Race 360, and also pre-order Battlestations Pacific. Gamestop has a deal going where you get an extra $10 trade in credit for every 3 games you trade in (as long as they trade in for at least $2). Not a bad way to clear out a few old games I wasn't playing anymore.

"Hands on" sounds pretty promising. I hope they get the kinks worked out before release day.

There is some new video here that shows "zone hitting". Loooks interesting. I did't know this hitting option was even available.

That looks more like cursor based hitting to me. I prefer my zone based batting where you just pick from the 9 zones and swing.

MLB 2K9 Diary: Part 2

http://sports.espn.go.com/videogames/ne ... id=3913651

Some good bits

Anyway, the Giants start the season 12-8 with the new lineup and on the brand new code I just got from 2K Sports. I have to say, the game is playing even smoother (and smarter) than the previous build of the game. Not only have the frame-rate issues been almost completely ironed out, I just saw a play where there was a grounder to second with a man on first and the base runner actually stopped in his tracks so that the second baseman couldn't simply tag him and throw to first to complete the double play. Just goes to show some of the AI enhancements to the game.

Another enhancement made to the game is the new pickoff move. Hold the left trigger and a new view appears where you're looking at the side of your pitcher along with a pop-up that shows the steal rating of the player at first. Tap B to throw to first and keep him close or the runner will try and take off on you this year. Last year, I can't even remember the computer trying to steal a base no matter who was on first. Now it's more of a cat and mouse game.

At the All-Star break, you can play or simulate the Home Run Derby, Futures game, and All-Star game. Lincecum is the only Giant named to the team, so I decide to sim right through and continue on with my season.

I like cursor hitting, but I'm not sure I like that big bat overlay they have. It's pretty distracting. I would have preferred a little "X" or circle or something. Anyway, its nice to have that option. Anyone know how many hitting options there are?

Hands on Video preview
Thanks, bd. I haven't purchased a 2k baseball game in a long time, but I'm definitely picking this one up on day one. I still can't get over that we're going to have 2 very good and possibly great baseball games to play this year. Can't wait to fire 'em both up.

I read yesterday where Steve said there are issues with the framerate....the game is looking great but a bad framerate is always a killer for me.

I love that they took out cut scenes and everything happens like real life. Can you believe the crowd fights for fouls balls??? :)

Can you believe they've been doing that for years in baseball games? I hope you were joking.

But in this game they are doing it in REAL TIME, not part of a prerendered cutscene.

Real Time is definitely cool. I'm looking forward to this feature the most. But, after a while I get tired of the slow pace of baseball video games. I wonder if you can bypass this by the press of a button?

In some of the videos it seems as if the user is button pressing through some of the real time stuff between pitches anyway.
