matthewk wrote:You can get pretty quick games by setting one of the presentation settings to 2K10. I think it's real time by default. You can also turn off replays in the same screen (different setting).

This will cut down the time between pitches dramatically, but it retains the batter walkup/introduction.

matthew - With those settings applied, how long are games taking.

Also, what are your impressions of the game after close to a week?

I've read everything from "it's fun" to "horrible" to "better than last year..but"

Personally I'm loving it. It is better than last year. It feels the same in a lot of ways, but the additions and fixes make for a better game. The whole MLB Today thing is a blast. So far its holding up well and has been getting more play than The Show by a little bit.

I'm also having a ton of fun with the My Player feature this year. I made a third baseman, and am about a month away from the end of his first season in the minors. The games are lasting anywhere between 5-10 minutes with it just showing plays that my guy is involved in, so I can rattle off a string of them in one sitting. Certainly a different feel than playing a full game, but very cool to see the development of your player. I may actually see my players full career this time, that would be a first for me! I like The Show's RTTS mode also, but games there take a bit longer. Of course, I should stop creating catchers... !

Thanks for the feedback. I'm reading a lot about horrible frame rate issues over at OS and 2k Forums. Can anyone speak to the 360 version? I have little tolerance for frame rate issues.

It chugs quite often...however, it doesn't really affect gameplay as far as I'm concerned. The part that pisses me off about the game is the horrible animations (especially on defense), not the framerate.

Is there a way to turn off a) the vibration when you're pitching and place the cursor outside of the strike zone and b) the vibration/"crazy ball" when a pitcher is supposedly rattled. I think the latter happens too often early in games and hell I'm nervous enough when there are runners in scoring position.

Where are people seeing frame rate issues, because I honestly have seen none. I'm playing it on the 360.

I am still playing and loving the demo.

Modell's resent me the $35 offer so it is now shipping to me and I cannot wait.

I really liked 2K10 and I know I will love 2K11.

I look forward to changing the camera view and other options.

Hopefully it will arrive by the weekend.

So what I am getting so far is that 2K11 is the game in which you have to accept some weak AI to enjoy the game. But for The Show, you have to pretend that the AI is rally good to enjoy the game.

I can get games finished in about 40 minutes. I have replays set to "occansionally", as I like to view a few of each game. I can always skip past if I want.

It fixed pretty much everything I didn't like about 2k10, so it is definitely better. There may be some AI issues, but it's not like the CPU is dumb all game long. I've seen them bunt, make defensive substitutions, etc... The atmosphere is great either with or without the commentary on (I alternate for some added variety).

Bottom like for me is that 2k11 is fun to play, while the Show is not.

I think you can turn off vibration. There is a confidence setting (in the overall settings, not per player) where you can reduce the effects of the "crazy ball". By default I think it happens too often.

OK got one game in and it's a progression of last years game. It's still a lot of fun to play. LMAO at my first achievement "throw first and aim later".

The game is a lot better in that the CPU plays better offense and that's on all defaults. My Marlins were losing to the Rays 10-0 in the 9th. In last years game I never lost. The CPU does some knucklehead moves. The Rays left their starting Pitcher in the 9th and allowed me to score 4 runs with no outs before bringing someone in. You would think even with a shutout going the CPU would not hesitate bringing the Closer at the first sign of trouble. The only glaring thing about the situation was the SP had a pitch count of about 75 pitches going into the 9th. Maybe the CPU is looking more at pitch count rather than signs of trouble.

Some of the animations look a lot better and some look way off. For instance an infielder running towards the crowd trying to catch a popup fly ball heading towards the seats. I saw the player zig-zag and did a 360 before giving up for the ball as it was well into the crowd.

My Player for the most part is exactly the same as last year. The commentary is starting to sound like last year and the year before but overall is the best of any sports game including NBA 2K11 and The Show.

I like the way the ball travels and the variety of hits. The CPU for the most part plays a better game than last year. The big draw for me is MLB Today 8)

Is MLB 2K11 worth the $60..no, not if you have last years game and MLB Today means nothing to you. For $33 MLB 2K11 is one helluva deal this year. :)

Except franchise mode and AI are two entirely different things. F*ck a franchise mode...no one gets that right...EVER. So yeah...nice, worthless link when you comment about the AI in a game. Genius.

rodster - so is it like Madden 11 was to Madden 10, a slight upgrade? That sucks that My Player is basically the same. I liked that mode a lot last year, but I guess I can replay it. But thanks to your game deal sleuthing, I can live with paying $35 instead of $60 for what it sounds like a moderately upgraded game rather than a complete new engine.

I thought M11 was worse than M10. :)

Hey for a $35 game kiss the ground bro and enjoy 2K11, it's a fun baseball game again.

Ya I've given up on anything to do w/ franchise mode in games. I just play the games on the schedule and thats it. Sure hope they would put Season mode back in games. I think 2k10 had season mode and I know NHL 11 does.

Is there a way to turn on auto fielding in this game? Man pop ups and fly outs are KILLING me in this game. The camera zooms on one player but he's not the closest one to the ball.....arrrrggggh. :P

The other problem i'm having and maybe its just me is that when a foul ball is hit behind home plate or towards the dugouts i'm not given control of the catcher but I see the indicator for the 1B or 3B depending on where the ball was hit but i'm not allowed to select the catcher. The camera keys in on the catcher but the 1B or 3B is out of view and pressing A doesn't allow to change to the closest fielder. So instead of a foul out i'll watch the ball drop because no one caught it.

Just got this game in the mail today from Modell's. Couldn't pass it up at $32.99. Thanks Rodster. Played one game, had to adjust back to these controls. Still had my system default at hard, so the game defaulted to Legend. After 3 throwing errors and getting down 4-0 to the Cards, I turned down the difficulty and Zambrano Samardija and Wood (Man I'm glad he's back with the Cubs) held them scoreless the rest of the way. There were some shaking moments, but nothing like that first inning. I was only able to muster 2 runs though. Still love the hitting and running view. Lots of guesswork after you hit the ball trying to determine where the ball is going to be played at. Its great that it makes a difference in the baserunning and the decision you have to make. Is it deep enough to tag up? Is it in the gap or catchable? Should I stay or go? Great stuff. Still see the hiccups in the framerate after a fly ball is hit, but I've been seeing the same thing in The Show. (I see a lot of hiccups in that game actually, but this isn't the place for that). Plenty of hit variety in this one game. Love the fielding even though Legend difficulty on the first try was brutal. Gonna like the challenge of trying to master fielding at that level. Fun, fun first game. Really going to like having two enjoyable baseball games to play. Messed around in the rosters a little bit, I noticed there is a heal all injuries under the individual player options. Thats pretty nice if you want to use a particular player that is injured IRL. Love the different pitching camera angles per ballpark. Originally started the game at Wrigley, then decided to move over to Busch. Some day I'm going to try hitting from the pitching camera. Really like this game.

I lost a full game's progress due to the 'robbed HR' bug yesterday.

If you hadn't heard of it yet, when a fielder jumps to rob a homerun, it can get counted as both a HR and an out. Well, I hadn't seen it before, but it happened to me on the very last play on the game, 3rd out in the bottom of the 9th. Game started freaking out, not knowing what to do. The end of the game music started playing, but the homerun celebration was showing on the scoreboard. Dugouts were showing half end of game stuff, and half home run celebrations. Guys were warping through one another and everything. It just kept doing this over and over, and I couldn't do anything to exit except quit, which cost me a fully played game.

That's the sort of thing (losing full games) that will cause me to quit the game completely if I see it again before around another 30 or 40 games or so.
