I have played one online match and that was Wed night. The guy I was playing with lived in Canada. It was virtually lag free. Very smooth. Then Xbox live kicked us both off due to the maintenance.
Also, you can hold down the Y button to speed up the shot after you make contact with the ball just like you can offline. Speeds things up a little. We used a few times.

Absolutely loving this game. The more I play it the more I love it. Seriously, this is an incredibly fun game IMO.
Couple of questions regarding online:
1. Is there a daily tournament like there was in 06?
2. Any way to tell what the settings of an online game is prior to entering (skill level, etc)?

Yeah, I haven't had a chance to play a lot but it seems fantastic. It's a great game for a family to enjoy since it is very easy to learn but actually somewhat challenging this year. My son is up to 3 eagles now with Tiger on the Tour level (and he never aims...just hits every shot straight) and I had an ace with Colin Montgomerie (who looks like he's about 200 years old in this game) so they still need to make it a little tougher when playing with Pros on the hardest level. Overall, I really don't have any complaints so far.PRBoom wrote:Absolutely loving this game. The more I play it the more I love it. Seriously, this is an incredibly fun game IMO.
I have played the PSP version a lot more and I love it!
I feel the exact opposite. I'm bored with it. I the game is incredibly unbalanced or I have spectacular thumb dexterity.PRBoom wrote:Absolutely loving this game. The more I play it the more I love it. Seriously, this is an incredibly fun game IMO.
With your rookie player, you can hit the ball anywhere, which is fantastic. For the first time in a Tiger game, I might actually put it somehwhere bad. The long and short iron game is pretty good. Chipping is downright unbalanced and unrealistic. And putting is funky.
Playing as Tiger, the game felt mostly the same other than putting was hard. I could hit the ball where I wanted and i didn't feel I was in risk of hitting a bad tee shot. Putting suffers from the animations not really syncing up with what you are trying to accomplish. Hitting a putt that's 75% or 50% is downright comical. It should be hard but the animation should be more repsentative of the strength of the putt.
I'm just not enjoying Tiger. Good thing I rented because I don't think its worth $60.

I picked it up today but it's still in the shrinkwrap. I'm experiencing a little buyer's remorse being that I picked up Splinter Cell too. $100 for games...dayyyyyyyum!

I'm with JRod on this one. I'm REALLY bored of it already. Some of the things killing it for me are that there's really no feedback as to whether or not you've taken a good or bad swing, and as someone mentioned if you hit it good it's all good and if you hit it bad it's all bad. That and i don't know what, but it just isn't doing it for me.
I am also getting the pulsating online thing and it really pissed me off by freezing the whole system after about two minutes trying to enter the lobby. That's a first for me.

Yeah, after a little more playtime, I'm starting to get a little scared. It's not like the PC version where you can just be a little off...you either suck or you're a god. The training stuff gets repetitive and annoying. I'm fairly certain that the PC version is a better GOLF game, but the 360 version looks better and is more accesible to the masses. Sure, you're not going to hit in the 50's on TOUR difficulty, but I shouldn't have like 5 or 6 eagles in about 4 rounds of professional play (with various tour pros, not my created guy).
I'm actually pretty damn disappointed actually. Every time I hit a ridiculous shot or bury an eagle chip from 100+ yards, I just shake my head and cringe. That sh*t rarely, if ever, happens in real life, yet it's routine in the 360 version. The PC version does a much better job modeling it...unfortunately.

Mix and I played today online, and I had upped my stats across the board to 10%, while mix was a noob.
He beat me by four strokes. I actually like it better than any of the other Tiger games, and about as much as Links. Oh, and that 5 stroke deficit? He shot 91, I shot 96. Two triple bogeys, several double bogeys, not an eagle or even birdie between us...
I'm sure that'll go down, but it should the longer I play it. I still think some shots are scripted (ie, the 'heartbeat-letterbox' stuff) but it isn't rampant that I've seen...

Yep. As I mentioned earlier, my son is 3 years 7 months old and has at least 2 eagles on the hardest settings (Tour difficulty, back tees, fastest greens/fairways, even some wind) without ever aiming. That makes it almost impossible to use the pro players and have any realism at all. Sure, maybe I only shoot 2 under with Tiger but it's artificial and uneven because I don't earn my aces and eagles due to the scripted nature of the game.dbdynsty25 wrote:Sure, you're not going to hit in the 50's on TOUR difficulty, but I shouldn't have like 5 or 6 eagles in about 4 rounds of professional play (with various tour pros, not my created guy)
Could you imagine if we had to create players in other officially licensed products just to get any challenge? How would we feel if all the QBs in Madden were unstoppable (oh wait, that's happened before..LOL) and you had to only use created QBs to get any realism. We are so starved for a good console golf game it's amazing what we will put up with (me included). Tiger Woods is on the cover and he's the *least* favorite golfer to use in the game unless you are 3 1/2 years old.

Well, just about all my time playing has been with my created golfer so I haven't seen all the eagles you guys talk about. I am still having quite fun, my guy is up to 40% now.
I never played Links but Tiger seems to be the same as Links in that maybe you will need to limit you character to a certain attribuit limit.

Yeah, I guess that fact that I haven't played with one of the tour pros yet and that I'm still struggling to hit consistant shots across all aspects of my game is why I'm really enjoying to thus far.
As far as putting goes. If I know I need to only put 75-80 percent power into my stroke, I don't base it off my golfer's animation. I aim, and then to shoot I pull back on the swing stick to what I feel is about 75-80 percent.
Sure. It doesn't really match-up well with the animation, but it seems to work for me. Putting is actually one of my strong points in the game right now.
I did play two games online yesterday and it was very smooth. Only problem is that I was playing in three-somes with two randoms in each game. Every single one of them were all about the power boost and post shot spin. They even asked my why I didn't do that stuff. I just basically said because I felt it was nonsense. The general consensus among them is that they wouldn't even play the game if they couldn't do that.
This was kind of funny. One guy would continue to b*tch and moan with every par that he'd shoot. On one hole he made bogey and actually said that this game is more frustrating than real golf. He sounded dead serious too. LMAO.
It just goes to show, that as much as people hate EA Sports for doing what they do, they're actually catering to their consumer a hell of a lot more than anyone at DSP, OS, FGO, RFC, yada yada yada cares to admit.
Unfortunately, if pure sim realism is what gamers really wanted games like Links (which while isn't PURE sim, is more sim than previous Tiger Woods games), Inside Drive and High Heat would have been more successful and probably still here today.

exactly, if I decide to take the shrinkwrap off, my time will be with my created golfer. I hardly ever play with any of the pros. Yeah, you do have to limit how much you upgrade your guy. I remember last year, as far a power, I capped my guy at about 285-290 off the tee.TheTruth wrote:Well, just about all my time playing has been with my created golfer so I haven't seen all the eagles you guys talk about. oh we all admit that's what EA does. Madden caters to the "Madden Tourament Cheese Guys"It just goes to show, that as much as people hate EA Sports for doing what they do, they're actually catering to their consumer a hell of a lot more than anyone at DSP, OS, FGO, RFC, yada yada yada cares to admit.
boy, reading these posts it's very confusing whether or not I should pick this one up or not? At first, everyone seemed to like it but lately posters are seeming bored with the lack of challenge. I thought this was the year they were supposed to really ratchet up the difficulty options? Is the game really still too easy with all the settings maxed for hardest gameplay possible?
If you slapped the Tiger Woods name and the EA Sports logo on the Links 2004 game I think it would have sold the same as EA's Tiger game that year. I also feel the same way about Inside Drive 2004. EA has spent a lot of money and effort building their brand names and it has paid off dearly. 90% of people just buy the EA games because they are perceived as the best. If I'm a parent and I don't know much about games I'm buying the EA Sports brand for my kids because I've heard of them. I'm certainly not buying my kids something called "Pro Stroke"PRBoom wrote:Unfortunately, if pure sim realism is what gamers really wanted games like Links (which while isn't PURE sim, is more sim than previous Tiger Woods games), Inside Drive and High Heat would have been more successful and probably still here today.
Have you played the demo? I think the demo is a pretty good indicator of how the game plays when using Pros. I mean, if you are not getting birdies on every hole in the demo with Tiger you aren't going to be doing it in the full game, which has even harder settings. I just shot over 80 at Sawgrass with Sing. The game is also much harder when using your newbie character. We'll just have to find out what the "sweet" spot is for leveling up your character.JackB1 wrote:Is the game really still too easy with all the settings maxed for hardest gameplay possible?
I wouldn't go by what other people are shooting. I remember some DSPers shooting ungodly scores in some of those Links tourneys using players that only had 7 skill points! Jack, there are even people out there that think that WE is too easy on the hardest level
Just stared playing it and so far, I have that, "just one more hole" feeling I did 3 years ago. Playing friends is an absolute blast and playing with my created golfer is definitly been hard so far. I don't care if I get much better as my golfer progresses, I should. Once I get good and dominate, I'll trade it in on something else. It's going to take awhle though.
I haven't even come close to dominating yet. This has to be one of my favorite games right now. It may just be that I suck at this game but I'm finding it very challenging...and I'm not even playing it on the hardest difficulty level. I only wish there was a way to limit your 'luck' attribute b/c I'm seeing a few too many hole-outs from a good distance that feel cheap. My only other complaint has to be the sound of the driver. It is almost as bad as the shotgun blast in Madden. Oh, and the putting animation needs to be fixed as well. Links 2004 had it down. There's no reason for the Tiger series to be so far behind the curve 3 years later. Otherwise this is a major improvement in the series.MizzouRah wrote:Just stared playing it and so far, I have that, "just one more hole" feeling I did 3 years ago. Yeah, that is majorly screwy...but I did miss the cut on one of my first tour events with a +14. There's no denying that the way they have the rubber band AI in the tourneys has got to go next year.Danimal wrote:I shot a +38 in my first 2 rounds of the PGA tour event first stop and made the cut
Umm NO!
Making the cut at +38....it's so crazy it's almost funny.
Maybe not
