I didn't think of that but it really should be a rule, let me go change the rules before everyone starts doing it

Do we really want that rule? 80+ is 80+, isn't it? I know my kicker certainly wouldn't qualify, except maybe for a 60+.

The problem is that kickers and punters aren't football players so that 80 is on a different scale. . .

What fun is this draft going to be if half or a bunch of the 80 plus guys who are available are all kickers and punters. . .I think the rule is definitely justified. . .

Well I might like opportunity to improve my kicker some season down the road, maybe this season. Prohibiting them from being released in the FA draft eliminates that possibility by rule. What you're saying is that I can never improve my kicker unless I somehow get A good one in the rookie draft.

Well. you could certainly trade for one (make me an offer :) ). . .or perhaps one of the CPU teams will cut one. . .so I don't necessarily agree that you're hamstrung to the draft. . .

I was under the impression that we wanted to simulate off-season movement and try to make that somewhat interesting. . .I'm just saying that enabling a mass shuffling of kickers and punters is going to be kind of lame, IMO. . .

Well, most teams in the real life NFL get kickers and punters through free agency, and there have been some notable kickers let go in recent years, such as Vinatieri. It is extremely rare for kickers and punters to be taken in the draft at all, and rarer still for those that do get drafted to end up working out.

I guess I just don't see it as a problem. I know I don't have a kicker that would qualify for our FA draft, and I'm not going to release my punter, so I'd be very surprised if not having this rule were to result in tons of kickers and punters in the FA draft. I just don't see what the problem is, but that's just my point of view.

Didn't mean to stir up a hornet's nest. For what it's worth if Vinatieri wasn't 37 there's no way he'd be my choice to release. I think it's kind of lame that everybody has such an issue with this. With the Ravens my kicker was the bane of my existence costing me many points throughout the season. His sucktitude resulted in a Hester missed FG return for a touchdown. I think you guys are devaluing the position.

It was never mentioned before and I really don't think it would be an issue where everybody is going to release their kicker to meet the requirements. Hell, if somebody else wants to release a kicker rated 80 or more that's less than 37 years old I'd be thankful to have an opportunity to sign him. It would save me having to draft a kicker. You know, the more I think about it the more a rule like that would piss me off.

Mountain out of a mole hill. You can certainly draft a FA kicker and then cut yours as an extra. You could also wait until all of it is done and then use one of your 10 FA points on a kicker. There are plenty of ways to upgrade the kicker. You just can't release an 80+ kicker while other guys are getting rid of an 80+ DT or CB or something. Otherwise we'd have a bunch of 80+ kickers getting cut, because face it...all you need is kick power and not much else with a kicker. 7th rounders can replace that easily.

Nobody's saying you can't cut one and replace with a FA outside the FA draft.

If he was your only FB or whatever the roster limit is then no. I think you need at least one in each position because I was able to cut a RG and only have one on the roster.

I agree if you want to drop a player and the game won't let you I have no problem if you keep track of it and do it after the rookie draft.

My assumption is that after the rookie draft we will have full roster control again meaning we can add and drop guys. I have no problem giving everyone a day or two to clean up their rosters. Everyone may not be able to add all their rookies etc.
